I beat this game when I was 13 and it blew my mind. When you're that young you get sucked into games so much more and I'd be completely immersed into everything that was going on when I was playing it. I remember finishing my homework ahead of time so I could get an hour or two of playing in before going to bed. I had a TV in my room so I'd be laying on my bed (on my front, towards the TV, propped up on my elbows) with the lights turned off. The light from my TV being all that was lighting my room. Then at school I'd be drawing pictures of the characters on my folders. The immersion I felt with MGS may be the strongest I've ever felt from a game. Keep in mind I was playing it right after it launched in 1998 so it had better graphics than anything else out at the time. It was also far more cinematic than anything else out. It was an incredible experience as far as gaming goes.

Same. I'm younger than you though. I was about 8 years old when the game dropped and due to its M rating my parents wouldn't let me buy it. I had ti wait like 6 months and finally convinced them and I got it. So I beat it probably about 9 years old. I was extremely immersed in the story even if I didn't fully understand it at the time. I went back and replayed it and beat it every year or so after that. This game and FF7 were both so revolutionary at the time and brought me so much joy.

@@Rykiz_Vidz I was going to reference FFVII in my comment, too. I beat it the same year that I beat MGS and it easily became my favorite game of all time. MGS is definitely a masterpiece but, for me, nothing has been able to top the emotional pull I felt from FFVII. MGS wins for immersion (I really felt like I was Snake every time I sat down to play it), and is the best action franchise in gaming history, but FFVII wins as an overall game. I loved everything about it and still listen to the music from it sometimes (the soundtrack is on Apple Music). I even liked FFVIII a lot but not quite as much as VII. I played VIII when I was 14 and was really able to connect to the characters at that age. It was a great coming of age story.
