To cover the most gruesome parts, before others see it like the EMT's. . i really feel sorry for them, more then the rest. But i do feel for the others too! But they see the worse before anyone else arrives. They also have to clean up the body parts that are dead, EMT's don't deal with the dead. Or see it. They are already covered before they get there. It makes my heart sink to see them working because they could see what others don't. these people are the ones who should be the most highest paid workers. They deserve it. Even more then the Drs and the president. !!!!!! You all are in my prayers daily!

I was usually on scene before a fire unit... and ALL EMS wheather they are EMT-B,EMT-I or EMT-P ... ALL see the messes before they're covered. And YES...we sometimes have to carry body parts to be bagged. Please don't make such comments that you apparently know nothing about. And btw...my very first call was to a suicide. A man put a shotgun butt- down in the ground... put the barell in his mouth, and pulled the trigger. Our EMS barn was 1 block away...and it was 100+ degrees with high humidity. We got there in under 2 min. from his wife's call... and the "pink mist" was still hanging in the air... and when you breathed in... you could smell and taste his blood/brains. So please Mam ... don't slight the Medics ... I had MANY runs as bad... and unfortunately, worse to have to see. I was able to shut down my emotions Ang gag reflex... and do my job.At the time...I thought it was a blessing... but many years later...the night- mares started. And just laying in bed trying to go to sleep... some of the worst calls would play out in my head.One... then another...then another... So... as many PTSD sufferers do... I began to drink to sleep. I was embarrassed and ashamed to ask for help... until a year ago. What finally was what I call "my breakdown for my breakthrough". One particular little girl re-visited me many, many times in my nightmares. She was 5.There was a house fire... and yes... the Fire Squad got there first. They got her out as I was jumping off of my passenger- side running board. She wasn't burned on the outside ... but the super hot gasses in the smoke, had seared her larynx and main- stem broncus shut.We couldn't ventilate her in any way we tried. We had her in the ER within 5 minutes of the Fireman bringing her to me.The ER Docs, nurses, along with a respiratory Technician had no luck. After they pronounced her,and everyone had left the ER...I just stood by this beautiful little 5 year old girl.I remember the ring of soot around her little face from the ambu bag, the smell of smoke in her pretty blond hair, and she had on white pajamas, with little pink teddy bears. For SO many years, I blamed myself, for failing to ventilate her. I felt that I had let her down. It's only that about a year ago.... she came to me "so to speak" in my mind in the middle of the day...and I just ended up in a fetal position in a corner crying uncontrollably. I think I was like that for about 2 hrs. And it ALL just kept coming in waves... all of those who I couldn't save. I was talking with a friend who is a therapist for a couple of months before this happened. She explained that had this not happened... she would have had to bring it all out. So .... to finish up my story,I can now say that those I couldn't save, were NOT MY FAULT. I don't normally share all of this.... I just wanted you to understand. My nightmares stopped after my meltdown... and I no longer need the alcohol... or any meds. Kathy if you read this... thank you for taking the time. I can only now share my story of the cute little blond- haired angel without crying. I've made great progress in this past year. 😉 I'm ok... God bless you. ✝

To those who say the female never had a chance. I'm assuming from the Deputy's comments, she was at fault. She could have had a chance but chose not to. I served as an EMT/FF for 14 years & saw more than this. Someone is ALWAYS at fault. Texting & distracted driving causes more TC's than DUI . Speed causes the most. Slow down- don't drink, text or talk on your cell & slow the fk down....especially going through scenes. I've lost count how many times I dove out of the way from drivers going too fast even with electronic signs half a mile away ( advising of a TC , ) or flares, emergency equipment w lights flashing.. I've yelled at so many drivers to slow down, but I don't think it's funny. I've even had drivers stop, get out & take pics of the gruesome aspects & block traffic. If I was allowed to give tickets, I'd show no mercy. It's cheaper than being dead. Plus you can pay the county off. You can't pay death to come another day...the holidays are upon us. When I see this, I remember a few "16 year old gets a new car" vids. Just started driving, and the teen gets a completely different car from that of the family car. So not only are they still learning driving, but they are doing it with an unfamiliar car. I wonder if this is part of the issue?

When you drive only focus on driving and don't put other lives at risk being under influence or too tired. This would save save so many lives.

This is so sad. You think people would learn not to drive and be on there phones. This was a very young girl. She’ll never get to love her life all because of her using a phone while driving. Think before getting in the driver seat. Drive safe. Parents teach your kids about distractive driving. It could save there life’s. Sorry for this family’s lose

Some people are dying to save gas. That is why I drive a 3500 Cheverolet dually. The smallest vehicle I've had in the last 40+ years was a 1972 Pontiac Bonneville. I also drive a 2500 4X4 extended cab 454 truck often. Ya, she gets 8 and 11 to the gallon but who cares. Go ahead and do something stupid and pull out in front of me or run a light in one of those gas savers. But still, all and all its always sad for someone to lose their life from something like this. That person got up in the morning might have had coffee and breakfast and had no idea this was the last day. Keep the Lord close at all times. We don't know the day or the hour of our death.

A lot faster and a hell of a lot safer for those on scene. I know this was back in 2007 so its moot as hell but...

I can tell you from a fire fighters daughter it never gets easier for them. My dad had to watch 4 people burn alive on an airplane he could hear their screams and do nothing. Omg that is horrible she was only 20 years old. I feel so so sorry for her family and friends may she rest in peace I'm afraid that this is going to happen to my sister cause she texts and drives and speeds and don't always wear her seatbelt. I really hope it don't but you never know that's why when we are behind the wheel we need to not have or phones or anything in our hands except the steering wheel and eyes on the road the whole time. Cause you getting to where your going late is better then not getting there at all. Trust me I almost come very close to losing my mom and stepdad cause of a wreck like this couple of years ago. They got hurt bad and the woman that run into them didn't at all. She was on her cell phone when she hit them head on. I'm glad to have them both still with me today. It could had been a lot worse the EMT's thought my mom was dead when they found her in the floor of the truck but thank goodness she wasn't. Her and my stepdad still have pain from it today and forever will have a pain lasting memory of that horrible day.
