We had a high school student killed his 2 best friends in a DUI crash, did only 4 years. The day he got out, the grandmother of one of the 2 boys ran him down right in front of his house and killed him. Said she got justice for her grandson. Waived her right to trial and pled guilty. She told the judge she had stage 4 colon cancer and wasn’t worried about prison.

Don't blamer her a bit. DUI needs to be enforced with stiffer penalties. They let them off too easy. If you take a life driving DUI, it should be a minimum of homicide by use of a vehicle just like if you shot someone with a gun.

Scott, I am 50 years old, spend 15 years of my life as a fire fighter and medic, this is the best, most well put together videos on not just this accident but on why you don’t speed and obviously drink and drive. This could have easily been me when I was 16 and a passenger in a speeding car. It is scary, she was probably terrified, and he was being a complete a$$hole. I am so sorry for her family and his, though the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree.

worst part is weed has very little to no real problems/side effects yet alcohol is legal its the worst and most deadly drug on earth, people change when using it drunk drivers people can get date raped etc being conviced to do stuff theyd normally never do when sober. Other issues broken families alcohol addiction, all the medical problems from drinking plus all the deaths caused by it due to people being drunk from poor choices like starting fights etc drunk driving and operating equipment while drunk etc YET this bullshit is perfectly legal and even encourged to use drinking is so normal yet something like weed is demonized when it has caused not a single death whereas alchohol has been the cause of death for so many people over the entire course of human history

I like that they took the wrecked car to the high school. Give the kids a dose of reality, kind of like saying, "your friend died in this. Remember this and make good decisions." Prayers for both families and that the driver has learned his lesson since I'm sure he's out by now.

In 1987 a friend of my brother was killed by another friend in a drunk driving crash. The car the two young men were in was placed on the front lawn of the police department for several days. This was something not done in the 80's but our small town PD knew they had to send a shocking message to the young people who knew both families. The young man driving did serve some time. He was and is a super guy. He was young and made a terribly painful mistake. Today he's a talented carpenter with a college-age son and I'm proud of him.

@robertstone9988
@robertstone9988 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah because if you shoot someone or stab someone to death that's called murder not manslaughter. There's a difference because they're different. One you have intentions to kill somebody the other your stupidity/ carelessness causes the death of somebody. Little Haley is just as guilty as being drunk and making a piss poor decision as he is the only difference is she's dead and he's alive. They could have just as easily had her drive that night and him ride shotgun and then the scenarios would be flipped. We are all responsible for our decisions she decided to get into that car drunk just like he decided to drive that car drunk. Unless you believe Grandma and she was kidnapped 🙄

She was just as drunk as he was it's not like he grabbed her from her community service serving the orphaned homeless, kidnapping her and threw in the back of his car and took off speeding away. It's a 50/50 coin toss she could have been driving him and killed him he just so happened to be the one who was driving everybody in that car is at fault for that accident. I'm not saying the kids shouldn't go to prison but to act like everybody else involved was it the only innocent person was the guy who lost power due to the telephone pole getting wiped out

How was he able to drive away from the first traffic stop? Driving 98mph where I live would get you arrested for reckless driving, multiple moving violations and have a huge ticket and fine. If they had actually "punished him harshly" as the D.A. stated when he was stopped for speeding and reckless driving his passenger would still be alive. Clearly they aren't making a lot of progress with reckless and drunk driving in that area given the list on the telephone pole. It's really sad that so many young people die way too young.

ixxie angel Because he probably didn’t have past tickets with the first stop. He was most likely able to get a lawyer to plea to a lesser charge. It was not a dui, just driving recklessly. You can’t do this in Virginia. He’d have jail time in Va., but in many other states if you haven’t had any prior tickets you can usually get that first ticket reduced. Unfortunately, he went from a 98 mile per hour stop directly to this huge accident. Unfortunately, the law just doesn’t move fast enough to keep some people off of the road.

When I lost my daughter in a traffic accident, there was no alcohol involved, no real errant driving involved. She lost control on a drizzly, foggy night on her way home on a two lane road. She was hit near head on by an oncoming semi, hauling chickens. Speed of the truck was not too fast for conditions. My baby was over driving her tires. I circulated a petition about speed , alcohol and punishment. Not because of what happened to my daughter, but because of what happened to a few of her friends where those were involved. The petition called for above 25 over the posted limit, 90 day suspension of license, 30 days incarceration. The FIRST time. If alcohol/drugs in use, 1 year incarceration. The FIRST time. More than one conviction alcohol/speed/accident involved, revocation and a minimum of 5 years. That's if nobody dies. Anyhow, didn't gain traction...thought it was too harsh. Damn bureaucrats. Sorry for the vent, sorry for losing Hailey. The boy needs to pay more, for certain.

Wow - This kid slips the girl roofies and then gets her alone in his car and speeds away. I can just imagine what his plans were for her. But then, being drunk, he loses control and kills said girl in a horrific accident. Then, the court, in it's infinite wisdom, gives him 5 years. Only. 5. Years. ...And a daughter and her family lose an entire lifetime. There is no justice.

Yes he was wrong but he wasn’t 100% wrong, she got in that car, I truly believe she wasn’t forced and got in his car on her own especially after hearing her friend say they were playing beer pong and took a shot. Should he be punished sure he should but she should have never been in his car. Prayers for All involved!!!

I don't care how long that kid had been driving or how old he is, he should have gotten at least 20 years and lost his listen for another 5 years! when you cause someone's death you should not just have your hand slapped! I'll bet his parents either have a DUI or maybe an accident like this! just the fact they paid a bunch of money to get him a light sentence tells me they don't care for the dead girl at all! OH yeah I almost forgot, the owner of the house where they consumed the boose should be charged with something also!

You know, I think the age limit should be increased for driving priveges. At sixteen, a young mind doesn't take on the importance of safety like an older one. I don't know what age is best. Maybe 18? Now, of course, I didn't feel this way when I was 16 back in the 70's. But things are much more advanced and the pressure of getting there faster has increased. There are so many more vehicles. Cars are built more cheaply. Substances more available. I just don't know how to change things. It is so sad. RIP Hailey.

I hate that the victim's family were left with a lame plea deal for the DUI Driver. That's not a fair and equitable deal for the family. My son was killed by a drunk driver and there is yet to be any action against him due to the courts and DA being backlogged due to COVID19. Like this grandmother says, this is the most soul crushing loss of life because it's 100% preventable. 2 bars overserved the driver, so I sued them both for wrongful death and though I won all those civil cases, I am still hanging on to hope that justice will be served to the driver. In the meantime, since the crash 9/29/2018, he has been out living his life while we have suffered the huge loss of my son, a wonderful, kind and generous human being. I miss him every single day and still have those images from that day burned in my head. I've got PTSD now and have suffered with illness ever since. This is the devastation from driving impaired and the laws and punishments need to be stiffer if we are ever going to get a handle on the problem.

@jrftworth
@jrftworth 5 жыл бұрын
Its not "DUI murder" DuI and murder are two entirely separate crimes in TX. DUI applies to a person under 21 driving under the influence. They get a ticket for it. Murder is a felony in which you intentionally killed someone. This guy committed neither. He committed what's called intoxication manslaughter. Meaning he killed someone while driving drunk,which is negligent, not intentional. Do some research before accusing people of things that don't simply exist or is inaccurate

When I was in Gr11, our local TV station’s weatherman held up his son’s death certificate & talked about drinking & driving by teens. I’m not sure who started it, but there was a local group that was called “Car/nage” started within months of the 4teens deaths. Glad to see the car parked in front of the school. My 1976 grad was the first in my city’s history to not have any deaths related to drinking & driving.

I nearly got rear ended by a kid driving a Ford Truck who was barreling up behind me on the slow lane of Loop 336 just after you get off I45 towards the shopping centers. I had to literally dodge and weave out of his way. I had my lane change signal on but this kid had no regard for the signal. I was lucky I didn't flip my truck trying to avoid him at 45mph when he was doing probably 60 plus. The sad part for him was I ended up passing his lame butt at the 105 intersection he was sitting at to go left, probably heading back to College Station. I see it all the time with these kids driving these expensive rides they didn't earn ending up getting themselves into a whale of trouble they have zero concept about. The trooper was dead on right, if you want to show your cahoonies on the road like you are all that, be ready when you do screw up to pay the price of your stupidity.

+Peter F. Guilty as charged here too.. I was doing sixty in a forty five zone. I probably shouldn't have been going that fast but I had felt off the entire day and was tired. Anyway, it was about 11:30 at night when I got pulled over. I just kept a cool head and did what the officer who pulled me over asked me to do. The whole thing probably lasted not even five minutes. At the end of it I shook the officer's hand and told him to be safe because I know what these guys and girls deal with now. I guess the best thing you can do is learn your lesson and try not to do it again.

I think as teenagers we have this feeling of feeling invincible. I did a lot of speeding and street racing when I was young, but I had been driving since 12! I had a lot of experience, and I'm not saying it is right, but I had skill. Most kids these days have 0 experience in regards to high speed. My dad taught me how to drive in his 69 Olds 442. Now, that car took skill to drive. Most of these newer cars are tin cans on wheels. No handling, no traction and no brains to drive. And they are capable of insane speeds! I don't race anymore, and I thank God I didn't wreck back in the day, but I now realize the danger of driving recklessly. I now know you not only risk your life but everyone elses on the road with you. Stay safe 👍
