It appears that some houses are far better braced at the piling than others. The ones that are diagonally braced from top down seem to fair much better. As a retired home builder in Myrtle Beach,I can attest that you can’t overdo the bracing. In this video the unit that collies only braced at the top of the pilings. The one that’s still standing is. Lesson here? [Also, Myrtle Bech had much stricter building codes than these house were built under. NC used to be notoriously slack in that area.]

Boy, is my typing terrible! Full disclosure-I barely passed typing class in 8th grade (1963-64). Sorry. But my point is valid. The units I’ve seen float away have all been poorly braced. That person saying that it "was cool " when that house fell into the surf, what a heartless, cold, and awful thing to say. THAT is someones home that is being destroyed. I wonder if that was YOUR house you would feel that that is cool. I very much doubt it.😔😠

Rodanthe was the first place I ever stayed at the outer banks. I think it was 1997. We stayed on the sound side of the island. Sunsets were magnificent.

Majority of the comments here saddens me. Every state is capable of a disaster destroying a home. “Karma is the universe’s way of balancing things out. If you put good out, you get good back. If you put bad out, well you know what’s coming”
@suzsnnesanders4742Ай бұрын
No not every state is capable of destroying a home!! Anyone who lives in florida know the chances of this happening are a lot more then other states! You can not even compare other states to florida!! Yet people who are able yo move away don't. So. When this keeps happening and tbey loose everything they have no one to blame but themselves!!

Yahusua said "A fool builds his house on sand"... How much more foolish to build your house on stilts in the ocean? It is all fun and games until those water bring the house down

I was there many years ago and rented a house. It looked like the ones in the photo, and I mean exactly like it. I was there during Tropical Storm Dennis decades ago. One day everything was "normal", and the next day, houses like these were in the ocean and it was only a tropical storm, which I guess this was by then also. Homes that were under construction the day before, were either in the water, or gone and I think they had to be at least 150 ft from the water at that time to build, so that's how much beach was lost. I'm in FL, so we got Helene when it was a category 4. Sorry for you folks, we know how it is.
