Jus bought an 09 Honda Accord EX-L yesterday, the owner took great care of it, and did inform me it could use a timing chain. It does have the rattle upon starting it and lasts maybe a full second. This is going to be my daily driver back and forth to work which is only 5 minutes away so there will be a lot of starting and stopping weekly and frequently. I am mechanically inclined and that looks easy enough to follow. How long from start to finish should this take me? Almost everything else on the car has been changed recently. Front end upper and lower everything, control arms, brakes, rotors, etc. Gonna do a full synthetic High mileage oil change along with plugs, wires, etc. Oil looks great currently and smells as should. Please respond when able to, Thank you very much. The VTECH motors are phenomenal motors and can last forever with proper maintenance!

did you do the chain ?
@kylebainter8595 Жыл бұрын
@@memopadilla5931 , No, I have not yet. I had 2 vehicles down at the same time as I was replacing the Overdrive servo piston and snap ring on my 04 F150. Took 4ever for the upper/lower valve body gaskets to get here, but got er done late Thursday night and buddy of mine and I took it out earlyier 2day and diag'd it front to back top to bottom and it is as if it is brand new. New catch balls too. So, now that is done I have a couple busy weeekends coming up, but hopefully within a month I will have it up and running. Honestly, the guides do not look bad at all, but if I am having to set crank off reset cams and all that might as well just do it right and be done. VVT sprocket and full chain kit is all I need. I am confident it didn't bend any valves, but gonna comp test each cylinder to be sure.
@kylebainter8595 Жыл бұрын
Oh, sorry different response to a different video. No, I like a fool kept driving it, and finally not once but 2 times the chain jumped or the VVT sprocket locked up, something but it is at TDC the crank, and the cams are 8 teeth off. I parked it immediately. It still drove, and no valve tapping cylinder head noises, but won't know til we pull crank pulley, chain cover and pop chain off rotate crank 90 cw then reset and lock out cams. Gonna be a 2 man deal if I am trying to do it in a day anyway once I can afford the whole shebang!

Thanks a lot great info👌🏾 I hope to see more on this car I have an 2009 Honda accord 2.4l and it's been driving slow with check engine light, VSA AND !. Try so many fixes and spent a lot of money. So far nothing has worked. I think it's the timing chain because of the noise its making when I start the car. The sound is similar to a chain rattling.

Did you ever figure out the problem with the VSA light and "!" I have same problem, along with the grinding noise at start. After running diagnostics,I was told the Camshaft Position Sensor needs to be replaced. Now trying to figure out if I need to replace VTC Actuator and/or Timing Chain

My daughter MAY have had two simultaneous problems with her 2008 Honda Accord 4cyl engine. The starter was going bad by not engaging with the flywheel after several tries. Finally, the starter would engage and the engine would always start up and run fine right to the last breath of the starter. There was a brief rattling sound sometimes during startup. We had a shop install a new starter. The new starter turns the engine over just fine but the engine simply won't fire up. The original repair shop said sorry Charlie here's your bill. I think it's possible the original mechanic that installed the starter broke something removing the intake manifold. A mobile mechanic determined the plugs weren't getting spark. Could a slipped or broken timing chain affect spark and could a timing chain issue be responsible for the new issue of failure to start?

Mine is at 165,000 I just had to change crankshaft position sensor now it's saying cam shaft sensor needs replaced. Mine is 2008 2.4 ex-l automatic it's beautiful rides out good and it's just showing codes for sensor but could be timing chain.
@09434010 ай бұрын
Thanks man. I just bought a 2009 Accord, same as that one, only to find out that it has a cold start rattle, which is directly related to the VTC, the tensioner, and of course the timing chain. It's a done deal now, so I have to deal with it. I'm worried that the rattle has been going on for a long time, because I just bought the car at 145K miles. So, are you saying that if the timing chain is stretched, those lines won't line up? Could there be any other reason other than the belt itself? And if the timing belt needs to be replaced, should I also replace the VCT and the tensioner as well? Also, will the CEL be triggered if the timing chain is starting to fail? Right now, the car runs great, no issues other than the startup rattle. So I'm hoping that the belt is still OK.

Awesome video. I thought I did top dead center correctly, but I screwed up. I was replacing the VVT actuator on the camshaft. When I placed the camshaft back on top of the valves, the timing chain was not aligned to timing dot on the VVT actuator. To make matters worse I rotated the crankshaft to see if Dot would align with the chain but didn’t not work. The chain fell from both sprockets and everything is out of time. How would you set proper engine timing with the camshaft? Any advice would help. Thank you

My 08 accord has sometimes issues with super long cranking time. I was getting the code for crankshaft sensor. Replaced it and it was still there so I returned and cleaned the old sensor. It was working for a while but occasionally the long cranking was going on. Eventually it developed codes for misfiring. It as cylinders 2,3, and random. So I went through the whole list of things(it has brand new spark plugs, ignition coils are all working, 4 injectors are working) and still misfiring.
@ucbgabe4 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness... I have had the exact same problem with my 09 accord. Word for word, same problem, same code. Did replacing the timing chain fix it?? Or have you found another fix?
@gloglo12754 жыл бұрын
@@ucbgabe Well it wasn’t the timing chain at all after all. The issue was the vtec solenoid on the back of the engine. I did replaced the gaskets on all of them, and cleaned the solenoid on the side.

That was my problem!

@ucbgabe4 жыл бұрын
@@gloglo1275 So it just required a cleaning? Mechanic said that timing chain should be replaced anyway, so they're going to open up the engine. I guess it shouldn't cost any more in labor to check the vtec solenoid and see if it needs cleaning? And then an inexpensive part if it needs to be replaced? Let me know what you think and I'll tell my mechanic

Just got my timing chain replaced on my 2010 Honda Accord. Seems to be driving fine. But when I stop at a red light I hear a clicking noise from under the hood sounds like it’s coming from passenger side. It never made any noise up until now after I replaced it.
