So basically, it´s all about having everything lined up, camshafts locked in position and then stripping down everything needed to be changed, put new parts back on the engine and everything should be timed right?

With all the timing marks aligned in order to install the drill bit into the back of the intake cam wouldn't the VTC actuator also have to be in the locked position??

That is correct but if you didn't install the drill bit in the locked position as long as all other marks we lined up that would be fine as well. because the camshaft moves back and forth with engine operation the gears don't.

Does this need to be done for a 2013 civic Si ? It’s a K24Z7 . It doesn’t say anything about doing the oil pump in the service manual for the Timing Chain I’m confused now

Question I’m right in the middle of this process. I have all my Marks lined up spot on. I did not check the holes with a drillbit. Is there any reason for things not to be lined up with all the marks lined up? Again, I did not check with drillbits

You should be ok, those other checks are to be sure 100% sure.

Is it possible to turn this engine over by the crank and have your timing marks on your timing chain and gears lineup again with one or two revolutions ?

2 Crankshaft revolutions all marks should line up, Not the chain links but the stationary marks, yes.

A quick one, my k24 engine gives a hard tome starting, and engine shakes when on Drive, scanned and it shows the P0011 code. dont know htw to go about this

Your timing chain problem jumped a tooth because of tensioner failure of timing chain stretch.

Because it has counter balance weights

Quick question. I had oil pan failure- cracked after taking a hit on interstate. Immediately pulled over and killed engine. Towed to dealer Upon removal of oil pan- which is all that was thought to be wrong. Mechanic noticed what he called, “oil pump chain tensioner” failure. That occurred when oil pan was cracked. He mentioned that the tensioner sat very low in the pan, and likely got damaged at impact. He ordered a new one and replaced. I had no clue at time about the harmonic balance shafts at the time being connected, and since the mechanic originally only knew about oil pan replacement. I’m concerned they didn’t take engine to TDC. If the tensioner failed completely, is it possible and I know that’s open ended, lol. That the timing of pump and balancers got off? The engine ran fine for 5 days and then started clacking/knocking/rough idle, all sorts of things.

Take it back, yes it’s all related to the timing and should be resolved by them

I recently did it the same way didn’t line up the pump links and it runs fine I will let you know if it goes it anytime soon…
