Loved this show as a kid & still enjoy watching them decades later. This was a great episode even though Wes was kind of a sleezy friend. Great reaction when Johnny pushed Wes's hand away when he tried to take the watch money. Also, a great facial reaction to Johnny's disappointment when Scott told him that Murdoch didn't send him to find Johnny.

James Stacy had a smooth, slippery way of delivering a line . Quiet and understated, yet you had no doubt that the man meant business. When his world imploded, we lost our chance at a really special actor.

Totally agree. This series should have gone on much longer than two seasons. James Stacy was the complete package and could/should have become a great film star right up there with Robert Redford and Paul Newman. That horrible, senseless accident caused by a drunk driver led to Stacy's downward spiral. It does seem to be he finally straightened himself out and made peace with his fate after his time in prison.

MURDOCH ONCE SAID THAT LOVE WAS A HARD & EMOTIONAL WORD FOR HIM TO SAY & HANDLE. BUT IN THIS EPISODE HE HANDLE BOTH WITH DIGNITY, PRIDE, & COURAGE. CHASE A WILD HORSE, SHOWED OFF THE ACTING SKILLS OF ANDREW DUGGAN, JAMES STACY, WAYNE MAUNDER, & ELIZABETH BAUER. THESE (4) ACTORS MADE THIS EPISODE WORTH WATCHING. MURDOCH TRIED TO BREAK HIS SON, THE SAME WAY JOHNNY DID WITH THE STALLION. WHEN HE SAW THAT HIS WAY OF BREAKING HIS SON TO HIS LEVEL DID NOT WORK, HE HAD TOO MUCH PRIDE & STUBBORNESS TO ADMIT HE WAS WRONG & DROVE HIS SON AWAY. JOHNNY DID NOT LIKE TO BE BOX IN, BUT WILD & FREE. WHEN HE LEFT TO BE FREE , TERESA WAS THERE TO LET HER BROTHER KNOW THAT SHE DID NOT WANT HIM TO GO. ELIZABETH (TERESA) DEGREE OF EMOTION FOR JOHNNY WAS EVIDENT WHEN SHE CRIED & HUG & BEG HIM NOT TO GO. WAYNE'S (SCOTT'S) SPEECH TO HIS BROTHER WAS PRICELESS, BECAUSE HE TRULY NEEDED HIS BROTHER & HE NEEDED HIS FAMILY TOGETHER AS THE LANCER 'S AGANIST THE WORLD. PLUS SCOTT IS THE NEGOTITAOR IN THE FAMILY. IN THE LONG RUN , IT SHOWS THAT FAMILY IS EVERYTHING, WITH JUST A LITTLE LOVE & UNDERSTANDING. A DEVOTED & LOVING LANCER FAN😍😃🎥🎥😍😍😍

TO ME THIS EPISODE IS RIGHTLY NAMED. MURDOCH LANCER REALIZES TOO LATE THAT HIS SECOND BORN IS A CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK, TOO MUCH PRIDE & LIKE HIS FATHER A MIGHTY OAK THAT REFUSES TO BEND AND BREAK. BUT LIKE HIS SON MURDOCH REFUSES TO RELINQUISH HIS PRIDE, & PUSHES HIS SON TOO FAR. WITH EITHER ONE NOT BACKING DOWN . WITH A LITTLE PUSHING FROM HIS FATHER, JOHNNY MAKES THE DECISION TO LEAVE. THE FATHER SOON REALIZES THAT HIS SON IS LIKE THE WILD STALLION IT IS WILD & STILL FREE. HIS SON SCOTT & TERESA HIS WARD CAN SEE THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE MAN & THE HORSE. THIS STORY HAS THE DRAMA, THE LOYALTY, THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF ONE'S CONVICTIONS. BUT DESPITE IT ALL SCOTT, POINTS OUT THAT THE BEST THING IN HIS LIFE IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, & HE IS JUST GOING TO THROW IT AWAY. BUT IN THE LONG RUN, BOTH FATHER & SON SEE THAT THEY ARE BOTH WRONG. THEY BOTH SEE THAT YOU CAN CHASE A WILD HORSE & STILL BE FREE. LOVE THAT LANCER CLAN😍😃😀💝 A LOVING LANCER FAN💝💝

Try Classic Video LLC. It was a shame, just by looking at this actor that plays Johnnie makes one wonder how he did not become a big star. He sort of reminds me a little of Steve McQueen and Paul Newman type. Murdoch seemed unreasonably harsh to Johnny. A simple explanation would have served the purpose equally well, especially when all the Lancers were already in the house. He did have a right to know, like Teresa said.
@BerlinerinToni3 жыл бұрын
Assuming you're talking about the scene that starts around 43:15, I viewed it as if Murdoch was being deliberately harsh as in order to make Johnny angry enough to get him to leave the ranch in order to save his life, because he knew the Stryker family were already lying in wait to kill Johnny if they found him there. What other reason could there be for him to go so far as to say, "I don't need you, now or ever. Get off my land!"? (Ouch!) After all, he had just said "We've got to keep him away from here" when he saw Johnny ride up. I agree that it was definitely a bit of an odd choice for Murdoch not to just fill Johnny in on the situation, since Johnny was likely a better gunfighter than all the rest of them, and in fact he pretty much singlehandedly saved the day just a few minutes later, while the rest of the family provided cover fire/distraction. Mostly, I think the writers just put those lines in in order to stir up some added drama, and to show that Murdoch could still be a hothead (since he's portrayed as being very level-headed most of the time), and probably also to remind us that at least some of Johnny's hotheadedness came from Murdoch. There's no way that's how Murdoch actually felt about Johnny; he was just trying to save his life.
