This guy is a super solid kit. I was pretty surprised when I got him. You can put the sticker behind the clear visor and it looks really cool if you toothpick it.

Great review! I just picked this up yesterday along with some other GM's to round out my collection. As far as the nitpick about it not having the extra 01 for the other shoulder, that's actually accurate to how it appeared in the BD manga and every video game appearance since its original game. Also as for why its referred to a GM, I think that has to do with the official RGM-79 great mechanics guide that lists it as a GM variant with the name GM Blue Destiny Unit 1.

The Blue Destiny units are gundams, not GMs. I haven't built the other units yet, a classical case of having to choose which awesome kit to build next with limited time :p

Hey guys! After seeing the review I've been looking to get this kit now, but the thing is they also have the unit 3 at the local shop I go to, are there any pro's or con's to either? Any input would be great :D

They've very similar kits. Engineering and quality is identical. The only real differences are the colour, accessories and the head. So no need to worry, just pick the one that looks the best =P

I don't agree with clear visors being a bad thing... If just color the interior of a visor with a marker it creates a really nice colored transparent effect

Was that the HGUC Ground Gundam you showed, or the one that came out in the 8th MS Team line? I don't think I have ever seen that version reviewed.

It was the HGUC from the Ground War set. It's identical to the regular release but comes with 2 Hover Trucks, 2 GM Gound GM Heads(either for the old kits, like the Ground GM I showed, or to make Karen's "GM Head"), 2 Rail cannons(the Ground GM was wielding 1), 2 right trigger finger hands and 2 open right hands for the old Ground GM and finally, 4 in scale feddie soldiers.

Man, I'm a big fan of the blue destiny unit one, and (as you could see) it's also one of my better semi out of box builds, I gotta say the hobby shop I go to gave me the best advice for the exam system look, fluro red on the piece behind the visor! Didn't see the problem with the feet not being quite right even with the picture but I'm partially color blind so it looked normal to me XD (Using my alt channel since I got the BD1 as its avatar, hoping to do a review on the BD2 omega color version when I...get around to building it, derp)

Sounds like a really good idea. Should really bring out that "glare". The bottom of the feet and the backpack are normal dark blue, but they should be very, very dark blue(pretty much black). It's a really minor difference, I never even noticed it until I was building it. And good luck with the Omega! (or good luck finding the time :p )

I didn't refer to the machine gun this kit came with as a bullpup machine gun. It was about the gun he uses in the game. For some reason the Blue Destiny uses the bullpup machine gun ingame but everywhere else (even on the *cover of the game*) he uses the Ground GM/Gundam's 100mm machine gun.

Hellios Warmane Good and bad news. The bad news is that they don't come with that special hinge connector piece. The good news is that they do come with a peg adapter that will fit into that hinge connector that comes with the skull weapon set. (Be warned that the backpack will be quite a bit away from the back, so it's almost a better idea to just superglue the backpack to the back) I also tried that 2-peg adapter but the 2 holes on the back are too far apart =/

11:36 looked...quite unfortunate. Jokes aside, to me, the biggest letdown of this kit is the exclusion of a left holding hand of any sort which takes away the kit's ability to dual wield and swap weapons from the right to the left. The clear visor is actually a god-send for this kit due to the EXAM&normal mode variations and allows you to paint it in whatever colours you want. If bandai moulded it in clear green and thrown in a red sticker, then you'd get complaints from EXAM activists as seen with the Sniper K9, and vise versa. It'd be quite a stretch to expect bandai to mould it in both clear colours as well since bandai likes to save costs by limiting the number of colours used in a kit production, and having to dedicate two (never mind three) for a single, completely identical piece, is inefficient from a cost:benefit perspective. Though I'd love to see that done some day, I'm sure such a procedure would just give a relatively simple kit a very unreasonable price hike and raise more complaints from us lazy consumers. tl;dr ,,,and that is why I prefer the clear option over the other two. xD Also, isn't the unit 1 technically designated as a GM?

11:36...? What's so... Oh... ((((；゜Д゜))) Yeah, I was kinda split on the clear visor. Like you said, the way they handled it on the K9 was much worse. I guess it's time to stop being a lazy consumer and grab the paint. Unit 01 is like Karen's "GM Head" from the 08th MS Team. It has a modified body of a Ground Gundam(you can mainly tell by the shape of the knees, Ground GMs have flat knees. ) but with the head of a GM (probably because they used a spare Ground Gundam with a busted head)

Kai Shangar I wonder why they call it the "GM" Blue Destiny Unit 1 and where they got it. Both the model kit and the game just call it the "Blue Destiny Unit 1" And then there's the model number: RX-79BD1. That's even more evidence that it's actually a gundam (Ground gundam: RX-79(G), Ground GM: RGM-79(G) ) On top of that the Ground gundam's page says that it's developed into the BD 1 and the BD 1's page says that it's developed from the Ground Gundam. And then there's this line from the Ground Gundam's page: "Federation Research and Development used three RX-79[G] units in their EXAM development program" So it's not a GM. I guess it's just a nickname, like Karen's "GM Head". A nickname that was somehow retconned from ...somewhere...

blue destiny is sort of a way the EF was experimenting with new types. the exam system heightened the pilots senses and made them hyper aware on the battle field.

"WAIT, WHAT?!" Hilarious. Shame this is as limited as it is,but I guess it is easy to have a diorama scene with it reloading, maybe with its shield propped up on the tripod to provide some minor cover while it reloaded in a kneel. It's a shame the Ground Gundam pulls it off better, it seems, but you could do worse than this to add to your ranks.
