What a beautiful person! He has great taste in music, film, and art. I love what he said about Francis Bacon. The music at 13:16 is Madeleine Peyroux's version of Leonard Cohen's 'Dance Me To The End Of Love' from her album 'Careless Love'. She sounds like a hybrid of Ella Fitzgereld and Billy Holiday.

People that say that art made using reference images isn't real art are silly. All the great artists before us used references, and many great artists use references nowadays (at least those that strive for realism). It's funny, it says this man is the most popular artist in Britain yet I've never heard of him! ...Maybe I should spend more time in Britain. What song is that that comes on at 13:14?

There are hundreds shades of gray and that's where I stand. He admitted himself at the end that he's not a great artist - comparing himself to Bacon. Bravo to him for being a big success. He's a good artist but not a great artist. I agree that he really shouldn't be in the big name galleries - as well as some of the artists that ARE carried by big name galleries. People can like whatever they want to and what speaks to them and that's fine too. It's difficult to make a living as an artist so kudos to him.

OMG, my heart breaks that anyone would say anything bad about HIM or any artist...this type of criticism is Verbal violence. People have NO idea what goes into making art and Becoming an artist and everything you live and go through as a person. Art critics are some of the MOST ignorant and stuck up people on earth. They don't deserve the position for sure and they don't even have talent to do their job. Just plain mean rubbish. JV is such an extremely talented artist, with a great style and a wonderful subject. The truth is I just realized that THE ART CRITICS are SO JEALOUS of him, so that is the reason they criticize, wouldn't be surprised if they secretly have some of his prints in their home. JV's art is like a time capsule, a thought captured in a moment in time that surpasses a timeless emotion that truly captures your soul and the nostalgia from a long ago past. His art has a historic nature to it....its timeless, beautiful and enduring.

allgonepetetong7160, Well a few of them do... But in fact many artists are critical of Vettriano, impugning the content of his work as rather superficial and glib, while condemning his application of paint as amateurish and technically crude. My own view is that such criticism is much too severe (and often born of snobbery or envy), and that his emulations of Edward Hopper are highly successful. If he had been painting in 1930s America then the art establishment today would regard his work with far greater reverence.

I studied art in various places, all which would agree with the negative criticism this man has received. I also have voiced such ideas in the past. Van Gogh and others also received such criticism. Picasso became terribly wealthy with his art, but his 10 year common law wife, a trained artist, placed no value on his work but preferred that of his rivals, Matisse and Georges Braque. I agree.
