Silver Distance and Altitude flight in my 1-26C (#243). Flight was intended to be from Hobbs, NM to Tatum, NM and back, but I couldn't make it back. Another nice flight in the high desert!

What equipment is needed to autotow for the tow vehicle? How did you setup the tow line? And what tow line did you use? a 2000' rope?? Or cable? How long of a runway is needed to do what you did to get to 1300'? Thanks a bunch.

We use 2000' of steel 0.092" well measuring wire (single strand). Our runway is almost 8,000' long.

+Dennis Ballew I am using "XC Soar" on a Google Nexus 7 tablet. The GPS is built-in and works very well.

My wife towed me. We do auto tow...a 2,400' wire behind a pickup.

That's pretty cool, what was your altitude AGL when you disconnected? I'm assuming the wire isn't straight up when you release.

@@DJGuppy321 Released at 1,300' AGL.

Great video! I am thinking about doing a cross country in my clubs 1-26. Any suggestions? I get the feeling that a cross country in the 1-26 is often a one way flight.

Not so. Mine was 1-way only because it was wet in the area I was headed and therefore no thermals to stay up with. Pick a day with good lift in the area and low winds. The 1-26 should have no issues going there and back. People in our club would do 150+ miles regularly in their 1-26's. Good luck!
