This is exactly what I do as well. Very useful video. Thanks also for this channel. I went from a 38 minute 1500m triathlon swim to 32 minutes in 6 months thanks to watching your videos!

Overrotation of the hips is causing the left side to sink, likely from taking a breath. Improving rotational flexibility in the trunk (specifically thoracic and cervical spine) will help keep the hips stable. Additionally, improving shoulder girdle mobility through the pecs and lats will help “disassociate” the rotational movement of the trunk from the movement of the arm. This will help keep the left arm in line with the proper movement arc while upper body rotates to take a breath.

I've been watching a bunch of your videos as an intermediate swimmer. Just a thought - including a swimmers height ( and approximate weight if they are so willing ) would be tremendously useful for those of us looking to get a better idea of at what level we are capable of performing. It can get pretty discouraging to see times of 1:17/100 especially from some of my friends, but then when I remember they are 6'2" it makes a huge difference. Perhaps a general video on how height can impact performance could be useful. Obviously it's not something that I can change, but setting some general ranges might be helpful. Thanks for the videos!

I don‘t think it does. Even small kids can swim much faster than me. I‘m 1,82m and swim a 1:50min/100m

I know a 15 year old who can hold 1:20/100m pace for 3km. Size and weight aren't relevant for us mere mortals. It's about feel for the water.

I think it does matter. I'm 5'6" and my average pace is 2:15 with a reasonably good technique. One of the guys at my pool, who is 6'4" and has a really crap technique (Doesn't even kick his legs), is about 1:45. We are both reasonably lean and fit.

look at his left foot (in video visieble right) where he sweeps out very wide while kicking 6: 18 and he is doing it always, he must get his kick smaller but more effective

On his first length of the pool, his head is too low, probably creating more drag. A side ways underwater view is needed as well. Very many swimmers have an arch in their back. Can't really tell if he has one or not, or how much of an arch he may have.

Thanks for the analysis about the over rotation of his shoulder to 76 degrees. Are there any exercises or things to do in order to correct this?

Aside from reduce your rotation when swimming, working on thoracic rotation on land

I like swimming with a pullkick and a strong rubber band around your ankle (you can find these from brands like arena or nabaiji). The point is, that you will not be able to stabilize your swim/rotation with kicks from the legs. This forces you to rotate less, move your head only a little bit out of the water when breathing, keep your core tight and in general is very nice for confidence in the water. If your legs sink when doing this you can also use for example two pull buoys (one between your upper legs and one between your lower legs) instead of the pullkick. Edit: One cue you might want to think of when breathing is trying to keep one eye below the water and one above it.

There is no way this guy is doing 1.35/100. I counted almost 30 secs in his second 25 meters. Something is off.
@hrun0815
@hrun0815 8 ай бұрын
Agree. That doesn't look at all like 1:35 per 100m (which would mean 1:25 per 100yd or about 21s/lap). I know what the swimmers in those lanes look like -- and that's not it. And at this size and speed his wake should be way bigger than what it is.

Are you counting during slow motion? He does 25 in ~20 seconds at the beginning of the video.

Great analysis! But there must be something off with the maths, right? If he's swimming at a 1:35/100y pace, and he needs 41 total strokes for the first 50, that means he's doing 41 strokes in around 47.5 sec (approximately). Extrapolated to 60 seconds, he's doing around 52-53 strokes per minute, not 66.

Video + stroke count is in the pool (short track). Don’t forget the turns and the glide phase after the push off. Long track or open water would have probaly different figures.

Definitely the guy has got good stamina. Given the noticeable deficiencies on his left arm stroke he must be compensating it with physical power hence the number of strokes. Actually it’s not to my liking. Because if you feel something is wrong with your technique why chase the time?!!! Slow down analyze your stroke. If it 2 m per 100m no big deal!
