I just got back into ship building after an 11 year gap and it was because I saw this kit and fell in love! Then I saw how small the PE was and panicked! I've been building up my skills and learning new techniques for about a year now so that I can do this kit justice. Mine will never be as good as yours but I really can't wait to see more, what you've done so far has been excellent!

Hello Sir, You are a true craftsman. I am new to model building and started as a rehabilitation for my injuries. I am working on a 1/400 Tirpitz. Trying to follow your lead on these videos. Can I ask " how do you get your Magic Sculpt to go on so smooth? " I cannot seem to get mine to be as soft and have a difficult time getting it to spread as easy. Thank you for the inspiration.
@EbroinSong3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Magic Sculpt is sticky, to reduce the stickiness, I apply petroleum jelly to my tools. Less stickiness, more smooth. And after sculpting, I rub the surface with soft brush soaked with lacquer thinner. I hope this reply helps your build, and good luck with your rehabilitation.

Amazing video and craftsmanship! Thanks so much for posting this it's fun to watch. If I might make a humble suggestion with regard to filming: You should use more lighting and stop up your aperture so you your depth of field is not so tight. In so much of the footage your finger or something like that will be in focus, but the work piece, which is only an inch or so away, is very out of focus. Just a friendly suggestion, and thanks again for showing your amazing work!

@sopwithpuppy5 жыл бұрын
Masterful work!. If I might be so bold to point out something to you... It is better to cut PE on a ceramic tile or metal base, as cutting it on the "soft", moveable surface of a cutting mat causes it to bend slightly, necessitating re-flattening. I think perhaps you already know this, and were just cutting corners.
@EbroinSong5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. My blades were worn out too quickly when I used metal plate. I am planning to use Acrylic plate for cutting base soon, though.
@markallinson49355 жыл бұрын
fantastic attention to detail...I really love the canvas covers around the main guns, but a question.... On the secondary turrets you are adding missing 'bolt' detail (or are they rivets?) with sculpy. How big are the real thing supposed to be? I think they are missing as even a 0.5mm blob would represent a bolt with an across the flats distance of 175mm... HUGE!
@EbroinSong5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the compliment. I guess rivets are better expression. I don't know exact size of the rivets. because they are so small, I barely make rivet shapes on the plate.

@EbroinSong5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Magic Sculpt isn't very adheres to plastic but I can enhance it by applying extra thin plastic cement after sculpting is done. There's been some delamination when the compound are not mixed properly or not hardened completely. And rarely there are bit of distortion, but not much. In general, I love this substance.

I built Tamiya's Tirpitz long time ago, it was very very old kit, older than me. It wasn't very pleasant to build that old kit, wrong proportion, wrong detail.. worse than revell's on detail-wise. I don't remember about its fitting and plastics though, not bad I guess.

Nice. Real big & nice. I know it's story so well. I have an urge to do the 4 ships that clashed when the Hood was blown up. Some Germans were diabolically evil beyond compare but, the German Navy was a normal foe who built nice stuff. U-boats were just doing their job.
