In this update we are working on the B/C deck of the upper saucer. First I show you how to modify the deck for using an aftermarket resin bridge replacement from Hdamodelworx. Next We install the photo etch window frame for the officers lounge from Paragrafix.

Have you ever considered the 1/1000 scale Refit kit? It's decent sized and a waaay better model than the 1/537. That kit is horrid beyond words.
@IainHamilton

I have done but the smoothie was one of the first kits my late dad bought me when I was a kid so yep the kit is poor compared to modern castings but it’s a challenge which is the fun part. BTW - I have the Greenstrawberry Arboretum kit for the big girl and it’s yours if you want it. More than happy to post it out to you from wet and windy Scotland. Would be awesome to see you incorporate it into one of your builds. It’s looking for a new home for free.👍

“Wow! Why are the cicadas singing at 6 in the morning?” “Oh, Gosh! They are outside Boyd’s garage, not outside my house on this fine October Friday.” You know you are in Texas when the cicada bugs sing in June and the June bugs bounce off the windows in May. Keep on trucking in SA town. Happy Modeling everybody.

Thanks for doing this kit again Boyd! It was by watching you do your first build series on this kit that got into the hobby and encouraged me to do this kit. By watching this series I'm really hoping I can keep from getting the urge to do a second build of my own! I have to say that yes the perfect plastic putty and the already modified Bridge has already saved a ton of work. It'll be fun seeing the other short cuts that you can do now. One thing I'm really curious about is if you've found a way to place the mounting post so it's balanced better. I know mine turned out to be VERY front heavy, to the point where I have to have a second post there to support the weight. It's great to be watching this build again by the Yoda of modeling!

New Sub, Watching these videos really inspires a person to want to get into doing this model build. He has excellent teaching of the details and the pro's tips and tricks which really lack in some kit builder videos. Yes I am sure it's painstaking to do this but I am sure talking through this build helps him to. I think I am going to buy this and all the aftermarket stuff and the other stuff he recommends and get into this. It's been a long time since my model building has occurred. Great series

I think a build like that would be really cool too. It would take a lot of guts to do all of that complex aztec painting and then trash it, lol! Brad Hair used to sell the saucer with the exposed frame work for it.

I love that scribing tool, best one I've had. I have the mega board setup but I'm not sure if I'll use it. I've heard it won't fit inside the model easily. I don't like the idea of putting the board in the base and running that many wires through the mounting stalk.

@Trekworks I hear you on running all of those wires through the stalk. I haven’t done any test fit with the board yet. I am going to do a custom base however but yea, that doesn’t solve the amount of wires through the stalk problem. Hehe nothing like a good puzzle to solve!

Been following your prior and current videos for this build as I work mine. Thanks for all the tips and advice! One question, while working the saucer section walls and sanding, I lost some of the raised circular detail around one of the the nav lights. Wondering if you have seen any aftermarket replacements for that little detail? Also when time comes, if you could show details on the mounting post (the original kit location by the deflector, not after the after market stand on the belly) and running all the wires through it to the base, would love to see how you approach this. Thanks again!

There are phaser banks available from Shapeways. After sanding the hull, drill a hole for each one in the hull and drop them in. They have a center hole so can be lit with fiber if desired. The set from Shapeways has enough phasers to replace all on the model.

Interesting, I'm planning on showing a solution that is pretty simple to do to replace the phaser bank details. It will allow for lighting them if you choose.
