JerOutlaw Whoa buddy. I understand the NHRA rules, but I think it's retarded that if a vehicle runs faster than what it's outfitted for it gets disqualified, but only in some cases. This is a prime example of what I'm talking about. This is the Diesel Power Challenge, a competition for built diesel trucks to show of what they've got. There's no need to bring the NHRA into this at all... Could've ran a 1/4 mile somewhere else and gotten true times instead of this regulated bullshit.

The faster they go, the more safety measures they need in the truck. Eg. if they run < 11.5 it's a roll cage, if it's < 10.0 it needs something else, next bracket down it might need wheelie bars, then a chute, etc. Different countries and regulatory bodies have different standards.

I'm still at a loss to understand why in the previous event when they were pulling the skid steers behind them, they weren't required to wear helmets. Now they're on the same track doing the same thing over twice the distance with nothing being towed behind, they gotta wear helmets. Here in Australia, if you're hitting any regulated dragstrip, be it 1/4 mile or 1/8th mile, you're required to wear a helmet, even before your car goes in for scrutineering, you gotta have yourself sorted before the car is sorted, and there's no half-measures.

This reminds me why diesel trucks are stupid. Almost all of these trucks have experienced technical issues at one point or another. Gasoline cars are so much more predictable and reliable. Underground Racing has a 2000 horsepower Gallardo that makes 1700 lb ft of torque and it can make 8 second passes all day without so much as a belt coming loose. These things force out an injector after one run.

I watched this video because I think watching all the mechanical failures are pretty funny, I like to see how many trucks can actually finish the competition every year.

+alexander vick the body, the clutch, not the engine would be able to do it. you would have to review the engine way to high to make the torque, in turn burning the clutch up and the body would more than likely break engine, trans, and suspension mounts, totaling the car.
