I'm not 1000% what I think about EVs yet except to say they are fast , generally consistent with decent amount of charge but when or if and not when but when they get energy density increased in batteries and reduce weight significantly , good god . Lucids apparently get very good range , they could probably make a lighter nown ne with less range that would be faster at full charge . That's what's impressive is the weight and the speed and time. When watching this video... Keep in mind that the COPO Camaro is a purpose built race car, it ONLY does ONE THING well! And that is go fast in a straight line. The COPO, which stands for Central Office Production Order, IS NOT street legal. In fact, it does not even come with a title! Only a bill of sale. The Tesla on the other hand is a car which can be driven on the street every day, does everything well, and will STILL run low 9 second quarter mile times! THAT is seriously impressive.

Hey Einstein: How many hours do you spend “waiting” for your cell phone to charge every day? (Are you really that ignorant or just trying to spread FUD?) @rbs4279 ай бұрын
@@Seventh7Art The Plaid's motors are rated at 1400HP total (rumors). But the battery can only supply enough "power" to make 1020HP. So a 4th motor won't help. Also, there is enough traction problems with the front wheels. So the fix is a more powerful battery pack and software that changes the amount of power to the motors. Start with way more to the back and transition to the front. And stickier / wider tires. With this idea, a 4th motor could help. Besides, there was Plaid + in the works that was cancelled, maybe it will come back. Tesla knows how to do it and Elon is paying attention.
@simonmorty83448 ай бұрын
The issue is the Lucid goal is not just to be faster than the Plaid, even when Elon puts a 4 th motor it can't compete with Licid for luxury, range, quality. Also ot properly couldn't beat the Lucid around the track. However, the goal of the Lucid is luxury, suspension, handling and a superior product but so it should be at 250k.

Spent a lot of time at the track when younger and something that I noticed is that a dead hook on the launch will usually get you your best ET but not highest mph. Spinning off the line you can see more mph but will give a worse time. I know it would seem like the best time would also show the highest mph but when the power is the same I think traction plays a factor in mph in an unexpected way.

@TeslaPlaidChannel9 ай бұрын
We’ve made many passes at higher and lower tire pressures. Lower pressures hurt top end and reduce the trap speed, but don’t really help the 60-ft. We’ve tried drag radials, and they aren’t any faster than the Pirellis if the track is well-prepped. But our Nittos offer some consistency. The Pirellis might run a 1.44 sixty foot then as the track fades, maybe a 1.55. Nittos give us more like 1.45 for most runs, then off by a tenth at the finish line. And full slicks were disappointing all around.

@TeslaPlaidChannel9 ай бұрын
Agree that 19"s will help, as we've seen in our extensive testing of two Plaids side-by-side (19"s and 21"s, everything else the exact same). But other factors will still prevent 8s on "some days", including cold weather, poor track prep, etc. Even though we often run *six* 9.20s in a single night in the Plaid, we aren't immune from those factors, and have had some high 9-sec passes, occasionally anyway...

Congrats to Greg on figuring out the copo. And thanks to you Andrew for providing excellent content giving the people what they wanted racing even though the competition was faster. It sucks getting beat all night and then having to film it 😂. Much respect brother. hard to hate on a 86k Tesla from 2020 keeping up with copos and 250k brand new lucids with more power and tq. Can’t wait to see what Elon does with that new roadster. Probably just crap on the competition and hold the crown for another 4 to 8 year after production.

It´s trully impressive how hard these COPO launch. Not to mention one of the passes at more than 160 mph... Also nice is those eletric cars doing almost 9 sec... 5 years ago, low 9´s are only for the millionare or race cars.

Awesome video. Does your Plaid have the track pack?
@TeslaPlaidChannel9 ай бұрын
Nope, the Track Pack is a must for road racing but only slows it down for drag racing.
@SnakesOnAPlane-SOAP9 ай бұрын
Depends if you’re doing 1/2 mile or not. You won’t hit your speed limiter in the 1/2 on Drag Strip Mode with the Track Pack. There’s always Track Mode without the Track Pack with a 174mph top speed, but that does lower power output some.
@TeslaPlaidChannel9 ай бұрын
@@SnakesOnAPlane-SOAP There’s no 1/2 mile dragstrip in the state of Florida or any surrounding state. Maybe about 1000 miles away? In Texas?

I think the Tesla and lucid did very well. Because they are extremely heavy family sedans, not lightweight 2 doors sport cars.. the lucid has more complex engineering into it then the tesla. that has been explained in hours long videos of theirs ( that’s why it feels strange it’s not smoking everything on the track) 🤷🏻♂️
@CYICU829 ай бұрын
nice races Andrew, very entertaining.

If they aren’t making the Sapphire have a chute and cage, nor any other Plaid that hits 150-151 stock, why would you need one?

Special “Street Legal” rules from the NHRA. Requires unmodified safety-related equipment, including brakes, seatbelts, airbags, etc., and restrictions on model year and ET and MPH. See link in Description for details 👍

The legacy old school dragsters seem pointless since modern luxury cars are just as fast without all the noise and other primitive nonsense.
