Hey, nice Desky Vs Ikea sit/stand desk review. You nailed it. I’m on my third sit stand desk, beginning with Ikea manual crank, upgrading to another brand I got off ‘Catch of the Day’ then finally a fully customizable smaller Desky which was the most expensive but works perfectly for my space and my work from home set up. I love that they are an Australian brand. You definitely get what you pay for. It’s a delight to sit at my Desky each day!

Thanks so much for this. This is the exact decision I'm making right now. Looks like I'll save for a little while longer for Desky. You touched on all of the things I was wondering about, especially since Desky does not seem to be sold in stores so I can't check it myself.

Cheers mate. Not really. I’m still loving it. Added a monitor mount and speakers on the table since then. Still super sturdy and the motor still works perfectly. The only grip is that wood is prone to scratches, so there are some scratch marks from my steel watches or when I drop something on the desk. But since it’s a piece of hide wood slab, I should be able to fix it if I wanted to.

@@theandrewteoh Oh interesting re scratch marks. I'm looking at desky's at the moment and finding it super hard to decide between rubberwood and melamine. Melamine provides so much peace of mind that it will be durable, but not as classy as the rubberwood. How have you gone for water spills? I heard rubberwood can be bad with moisture unless properly sealed And sorry, is there any chance you could share photos of the scratch marks? Super curious to see how bad it looks cos I'm very close to getting one or the other Your review is awesome Andrew, thanks so much!!
@theandrewteoh Жыл бұрын
@@TomFewchuk Scratch marks are pretty much done up due to my steel bracelet watches and the acra swiss plate on my camera when I set it on the table. As it is glossed finish, the scratch would be very visible. The reason I gotten the rubberwood is because it's a full rubberwood piece. I'm thinking of potentially sanding it down and staining it and have it as a matte texture in the future.
@TomFewchuk Жыл бұрын
@@theandrewteoh Ahh interesting re scratches. Very good to know. Maybe the melamine would be better for me cos I'm often throw camera pieces and stuff around on my desk haha. But I love the idea of you turning it into a matte finish!

Hello there. Since I use the PC in the living room with a sofa, I very often push my away and pull it back. Would it be hard to do so with this table, please? Thanks a lot.

If I’m not mistaken they do sell wheel attachments that you can use to move the table around easily.

@@theandrewteoh Thanks a lot for your answer buddy. I thought about this, but it would make the desk much higher which is a big no no for my needs. I was planning to add soft sliders under the feet to be able to push it and pull easily to play VR. That should not be a problem. The biggest problem is the price. Here the one I like is almost $2000 CAD, with 2 extra plugs, and the taxes lol. It looks like great quality though. Thanks a lot

@@8bittimetraveler834 Well these desk can be pricey ones you kit it out. But for price wise I think if you're looking for something long term this actually depreciates quite well. 2 years in my table is still ever solid.

@@theandrewteoh Hello. Yes, I will probably take it. I was looking a competitor, something Herman (I forgot the name) Their electronic tables are around $1100/$1200, but they don't have any power bars and the racks that hold the cables. Yours is so much cooler. I will probably order it. I just need to find the right day since someone needs to be at home that day to take it. I don't want to miss a day of work just for that. Just received mine yesterday. Put it together myself solely with Desky’s KZbin tutorial. No regrets this is amazing. I actually purchased the Ikea desk online one morning, had major buyers remorse by the afternoon and cancelled my order for a full refund. Bought 1800mm Desky instead + 1200mm side table. 3m desk space in total. Happy surprise today when I noticed the usb charging port in the front control panel! If you do invest, think long term and opt for cable management with 8 ports. Don’t hesitate getting on the phone with them. Customer service is brilliant.

how much does it wobble when you lean your whole weight on it with your elbows, or when you rock back and forth when you sit on it? it would be good to know the different at low and high heights. the ikea idasen is very sturdy and I tested it so I would like to know if you can let me know
@theandrewteoh3 жыл бұрын
For the IKEA it definitely wobbles quite a bit. I think mainly it is due to the round cylinder legs that it has. It's too thin to support a table surface that is that huge. However, it is not too bad until it affects your workflow. It's just annoying especially when I have my monitor and laptop open and as I apply more pressure in resting my elbows on the table you can see both the screen wobbles along. So far I don't have that issue with the Desky ones. The legs are more study and its slightly narrow in width, I think that also contributes to the reason why it doesn't wobble that much. Hope that this info helps.

Any reason you opted for a monitor stand instead of a bracket? Looking to get a standing desk and so far I'm considering Omnidesk and Desky, and was thinking I'd want a bracket for my monitor and to increase space. Interested to hear your reasoning. TIA
@theandrewteoh3 жыл бұрын
I was using a single monitor that’s why I just kept my monitor stand on it. But recently I just upgraded to a 2 monitor set up and I’m using the Desky monitor mount as well. I’ve always preferred to use my laptop in clamshell mode. Hence, it doesn’t really take much space until I had both monitors. Hope my explanation helps 👌🏻.

@@theandrewteoh With the dual desk arms, can you get your montiors in a L shape? I would want one directly in front of me, about 10cm from my keyboard. And the other to the left of it at like a 45 (possibly tighter) degree angle With its right edge about equal to where the main monitor sits. They'd both be 27" 16:9.

Like I’ve mentioned. If you really have limited budget the IKEA one would still be a very good option. I’ve been using that for 2 years before I made the jump. But all I can say is this table is really solid and because of that it’s worth spending the extra dollars to get it 👌🏻😁.

I ordered a Desky and 30 days later received only 3 parts of 4. the customer service lacks terribly and this is important for a product that has motors and a ten-year warranty. On the other hand, my son has an Ikea Bekant. used it for 2 years and the cable had some issues ( or so we thought as the desk stopped working). Spoke to Ikea after-sales suport for two years, just provided proof from my bank transaction as I did not keep a receipt. In 4 hours Ikea got back and said they would dispatch a whole new cable set. no questions asked. they fixed the issue in 4 hours. That is super customer service and after-sales suport. So i would strongly recommend to go with Ikea and NOT DESKY. you pay heaps for poor service. Definitely not worth it.

After spending 1 hr putting the desk together (not 30min as advertised ), the desk is un-useable, one of the legs doesn’t rise as the powder coating has fused each section together. So it will be another 1hr pulling the ‘desky’ apart and rebuilding. I specifically requested the replacement leg be express posted, yet nothing after 10 days. It takes 5 days to get an Amazon product from the UK. I will not be recommending this product to friends and family.
