Good amount of daily water intake (2 litres min) along with the intake of 3g of sea salt is also a must. Non processed sea salt contains all the minerals we need for bone health and good cell hydration.

Hi Dr Ekberg, I hope you get this message. My father has just been found to have significant weight loss, exceptionally high blood sugar, normal insulin levels (I don't know if this is affected by the insulin injections), and the hospital is forcing him to take insulin injections, but his blood sugar is still dropping exceptionally slowly. Apparently he has insulin resistance and, in my opinion, a loss of beta cell function. I think I have to stop this "treatment", but what to do next, if beta cell function does go away in this case?

My doctor has warned me I am prediabetic for four years, yet NEVER explained that it wouldn't correct itself. I just thought I had to stay away from sugary things, never knew it was about sugar AND the amount of carbs you eat, WHEN you eat. etc. Never said I might have insulin resistance. I've had to find all this info out through internet videos like YOURS, Thank God you exist!

@@2puffs770 I'm also pre diabetic and all was said to me is to lose weight since I'm overweight and ok that's fair enough but there's no real guidance towards a proper path. Fasting and exercising can go a long way but understanding your situation in particular is also important.

I did. Prediabetes diagnosed in 2020. Now normal sugar levels for some time. These videos helped me. I was fat with 40 BMI no sports, not even walking, unhealthy junk food and sugar drinks. Since then i completely changed my lifestyle. I do gym 4x a week, martial arts trainings 3-4 times a week, quit driving car in the city and started walking a lot, my average is 13k steps per day. Much better eating habits and no sugar drinks like cola. I feel 100 times better. Last saturday i did 80km bike ride. Do it before it's too late. These things can improve if you don't let them go too far.

In the year january 2020, my youngest son died from Fentanyl. I lost my oldest brother in 2013 from heroine. But 2020 did me in and by October that year my only living brother also overdosed. My youngest brother died from suicide in 1981. The reason why I am bringing all this up here is because of the cortisol changes in my body. At one time I was 89 pounds and now I am 158 pounds. When my son died, I slept about 4 hours the entire week. My PCP would not help me with anything. Then right after he died, we had the pandemic so I was totally alone. I couldn't afford therapy online. So I suffered wandering around my house like a zombie from lack of sleep and severe stress. About 2 months ago, I started exercising everyday. I ordered the A1c test and it was 5.7. I ordered it because my toes started to hurt, my skin started itching and overall I felt terrible. I have always had more valuable help from natural paths than traditional doctors. It will be a long road back but at least symbolicly I am inside the house verses on the outside looking in. This video was so valuable and well explained @Dr. Sten Ekberg. Thank you for sharing this information!

Let me start by saying thank you Dr. Sten, you saved my life! And please keep doing what you are doing, you ARE making a difference, i'm LIVING proof! Thanks to your teachings i've lost a good 100lbs since January and my blood pressure has gone from 193/97 to normal and obviously i've never felt better. This is the third time i've lost 100lbs in my 52 years, I thought I was just born to be fat. I lost weight the other times by pure willpower hiking mountainous terrain for an hour a day and mostly eating whole grains and no fat. Basically I starved myself. Now I eat the way you suggest with very low carbs, garden grown veggies and more healthy fats than i've ever eaten in my life. Keeping to an 18/6 feeding window and i'm never craving foods like I have my entire life. It's a MIRACLE! Thank you again, my 84 year old father thanks you too, he's lost about 30lbs. I only wished I knew how to eat this way 30 years ago!!

@@drekberg Yep.. Cardiologists i've seen are taxed with too many patients, and not enough time since their proprietors optimize their revenue. Am buoyed by your teachings of insulin actions and balance, and advancements in eradication of atherosclerotic plaque. Cyclodextrin (Cavadex) and the squalus compound family ( Trodusquemine and friends) are on the horizon if clinical practice can catch up. Seems the Insurance folks control money... and create an illusion of complicity with a "standard of care" that centers on drugs alone and never any emphasis on food. Surely the guy standing next to us with the gasoline/firehose is to blame .... Just have to see us as responsible for what goes in our mouths. We need to choose wisely. Thanks for the awareness.

Well I have totally reversed my type 2. I lost 55 lbs. Work out daily. Changed my diet to high protein, moderate to low carb/low fat, less than 50g a day. No alcohol, no sugar, no processed seed oils, etc. No fast food in 18 months. I am off metformin, insulin, BP meds, etc. All I take now is daily cialis for BPH. Your videos and a couple others helped me change diet and life. I am 59 and look 40 now. A1C now is in 5.4 range and Average glucose down to 118. Still have some work to do. Thanks Doc.

Why low fat? We need fat. Just avoid the Refined PUFA vegetable oils (now called seed oils mentioned in the video). Eat fatty cuts of steak and high fat ground beef along with real butter, bacon and eggs.

As I walked out of my Dr's office I was reading my post visit summary. It said I was pre diabetic and obese. My Dr never mentioned it. I took control of my own health, first going keto and then carnivore with intermittent fasting. Months later when I saw my Dr for an injury I told him I quit carbs and I was surprised when he said " that's great, carbs are terrible " then when I told him about fasting it was as if a door opened and we had some great conversations. It was as if he couldn't, or wasn't allowed to bring these topics up himself, but it was ok if I did. This was at a Kaiser Permanente office and he was the lead Dr there.

My guess is he probably didn’t think you would try to get healthy. Doctors are gaslit into believing that all patients are lazy and liars. Our family doctor is the best. Retired Air Force, and is married to a nutritionist. He’s also very anti pharma. One day he told us that the only difference between doctors and non, is better test taking skills. He said they’re not smarter than anyone. We haven’t seen him in years. Our family only goes to the doc for catastrophic situations like car accident or broken bones. After the last 4 years, we’ve become more healthy. Dr. Ekberg and many other pod castors have been huge in our learning how to be healthier and happier. Our kids are super healthy too. No vax, no check ups. Just heathy eating, sunlight and home school. It’s great when we get affirmation from others around us. Especially a doctor. I had gestational diabetes 4 out of my last 5 pregnancies. Didn’t have it last time at age 42, and I owe it all to Dr. Ekberg. My OB was shocked I didn’t have it. Low carb, IF , weight lifting. Sorry for the long response, it’s early and the coffee just kicked in. 😂

Dr Sten Eckberb is, by far, the best methabolic doctor, professor and researcher on that area. I've been diabetic II for 17 years. Now trying to reverse it on no meds....just applying Xr Eckberg's knowledge . No carbs, exercise, keto. Dr Eckberb deserves international recognition. His honesty has no limits.

My doc mentioned that I was now just barely pre diabetic based on regular blood testing. She didn’t say anything about diet changes, meds, or ask any follow up questions. I fired her with a quickness and am now seeking a new primary care physician.

MY GP was fascinated with which statin was for me. I showed what diet and exercise changes can do - numbers were within limits, but he pressed on, thinking that you can't ever stop.. or the post-statin backlash will be seen with vengeance. With a coronary calcium score, there should be mandatory diet a and exercise training. Instead the score is used to ensure compliance.

I like the way he describes how sugar is metabolized, but don't get why fruit ( largely fructose powered) doesn't become a liver tax, but hfcs ( 5% more Fructose than sucrose) is frightfully scary?? Would fruit juice lack any fiber that might temper the glycemic spike? So fruit with fiber is tempered, but fruit juice spikes liver more?

I was diagnosed as pre diabetic in April. With the help of your advice, I’m down 19 pounds, and my A1C lowered half a point to 5.3, putting me out of the pre-diabetic range. I still have more weight to lose to be even healthier. Dr. Ekberg, your videos are so very helpful!

@@JohnWest4 yes - Insulin sensitive individuals will be around 65-80. And very very important to do Fasting insulin... to see how much insulin your body is using to try and keep your blood sugar at 110-115. That is the other part of the equation as is the A1c. Vit D/Hormone D is very very important in reversing this- as are the B vitamins. Intermittent fasting and low carb eating and walking solves this for most people fairly quickly.

Someone please tell me why Dr. Sten Ekberg isn't US Surgeon General until this hugely costly health problem is solved in America. Anyone? (Many thanks to Dr. Sten Ekberg for helping me and others get metabolized and lose weight and stay away from carbohydrates and bad/inflammatory oils, and do intermittent fasting. Some folks think I'm weird. I don't care. I feel great I've lost ~60 lbs. and my wife and I both weigh what we did when we were teenagers, ~45 years ago. Can't thank the dry-wit and sometimes hilariously humorous, Dr. Sten Ekberg, my favorite YT channel.

@@thetree7694 I made the decision to totally cut suger for a month. No candy. No cakes. No bread, pasta, rise, potatoes, No soda. Only low carb foods. So i ate more salads, vegetables, Meat, and eggs. I’m not kidding. After 8 days i could feel something happening. It was Wild. No more tiredness. No more wanting sugar foods. It felt like my brain was more clear. I know it sounds weird. But Think everybody should try this. Just for a month to at least 14 days. People Will be surprised.

This is great but.. try and get a fam physician on board to acquire all these blood tests … She goes by the guidelines, otherwise I’m a stress to the already stressed out healthcare system. Yet here I am trying to PREVENT a disease and be Less a burden to the health system !

In 2 months I’ve lost nearly 20 pounds and my acne when from cysts to barely any th in fat all. I spent 20 years from 10 years old to 30 years old putting all this stuff on my face, come to find out I just stopped eating carbs and it’s gone. Freaking unbelievable. Dr. Ekberg gives the best and most balanced health/diet information on KZbin, but I get the idea that he skews toward not scaring off most of his audience by underemphasizing low to no carb, and warning about the toxins in plants. I don't eat plants anymore, but still find watching his videos very worthwhile.

I went to the dentist for 2 wisdom removals. They asked who my primary was? Dr. Sten Ekberg I said. 18 months Down 80 pounds A1c 6.3 to 4.9 continuous Nerves that were damaged but not destroyed in my left foot completely rejuvenated after 1 year. @@JohnWest4 Thanks John. Optimal is way better than the other. When you remove the poison and stop bouncing your Insulin like a basketball good things happen. I didn't expect that nerve discomfort to reverse back. It did after 14 months. It took 1 extra week to figure out how to walk without that limp I had for 5 years.

I’ve gone carnivore because I kept getting severe diverticulitis eating keto with lots of of fresh organic vegetables and salads. I even made my own dressing no oils. I have extreme stress due to caring for my severely disabled son who’s 33 years old. Your breathing technique has literally saved me. My blood pressure has been reduced almost to normal. I’m also walking 45-60 minutes a day. I’m going to go back to one meal a day and see if this helps my weight loss stall. For some reason veggies cause bloating and inflammation. I have been diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver too.

The highest my A1C got was 5.3. I have since cut out sugar, white flour, ultra processed stuff, and vegetable oils for less inflammation pain. I have lost weight in the process. Before a recent surgery, my fasting blood sugar was 81.

Hand surgery in ‘23 and antibiotics were in the IV as a matter of course. As a protective measure, I fermented organic apple juice in the yogurt maker for 48 hours along with Florastor…Sacchamyces boulardi. This prevented GI flare ups. At age 81, I’m protective of my microbiome. This was after months of eating L.Reuteri yogurt. I was pleased to get through this process without aftermath.

I was prediabetic in 2018... yet only told this year!! Since then I believe I had a TIA event and now suffering various issues which can be connected to that. It was me, not any docs who linked my symptoms to a stroke! No wonder I don't really trust them! Anyway I've changed my lifestyle, taking low doses of BP and antiplatelet meds with a view to coming off in near future. Am feeling benefits of lifestyle changes already.

My A1C last April was 5.5. My A1C this April was 5.9. I was shocked! I couldn't figure out why. I barely eat 35-40 carbs per day And that it's just protein, fat and non starchy vegetables. Some nuts nothing else. In other words, I was still very low carb. I do not eat grains of any kind or sucrose or fructose. Mid January, I experienced gastrointestinal issues for almost two and a half months before my blood test. It was stressing me out. I'm quite sure the stress Increased my blood sugar and my A1C. It's just not possible to have a high A1C, with the diet I eat.

Same thing happened to me. Last year mine was 5.3 and this year it’s 5.6. I’m 57 years old. My Dr said it’s because I weigh 162. I need to lose 20 pounds ASAP, or she said I’ll be in trouble.

If you eat low carb and healthy fats your red blood cells may be living longer and that results in higher A1C. It is ok.

I just became prediabetic in the last year. I am a very thin woman who eats better than most Americans. My doctor thinks it’s the medication that I have to take that is causing it so she’s not concerned. She just told me to cut back on my carbs and sugar.

I’m doing 18/6. I fast for 18 hours a day and only eat 2 meals between 1pm and 7pm. Mornings are less stressful and I feel better. I eat a huge salad first and then fatty protein. It works.

Your A1c could actually go up ... if your red blood cells are living longer. Having a 5.2 A1c is excellent, it better than 95 percent of the population. Don't get caught up in a silly numbers game.

I went from 5.7 to 5.2 in 2 months!! Drank ACV (15-17mL) with 17oz of water or more water before and during meals. Ate veggies first like lettuce or cucumber. Then protein. Carbs last, if any. Walk 45+ minutes AFTER eating. Went low carb for the most part but still had my boba but 50% sweetness and only drank half of the drink. Drank the next half the next day. I’ll eat white rice once or twice a week. Carbs make me soooo sleepy. I hate food coma, it’s not a good sign!!

Lowering cholesterol is bad... The idea that cholesterol is bad is based on bunk "science" from 60 years ago. You need cholesterol for: • Making new cells • Making all hormones • Making and protecting cells in the brain • Supporting your immune system • Supporting cell signalling • Enabling Vitamin D synthesis • Producing bile for digestion • Regulating gene expression If you want to make it harder for your body to do any of the things listed above, then go ahead and continue to try to lower your cholesterol. If you don't believe me, just ask your doctor to print out the best study that shows cholesterol is bad for you...

@@ChrissyErica Such a good question! Think about these questions a little bit. It will help you get a better idea of what is going on. Imagine you own a bus company. 🚎 People come to your station, get on your buses, and get a ride to somewhere on your bus route. 👍🏻 So, the bus loads up The bus drives out The bus drops off The bus comes back Then the cycle repeats.👍🏻 Now, imagine that one day the city you are in experiences riots - some people start smashing things and starting fires. 🔥😱 Now, imagine that one of your buses gets attacked by the rioters - they smash it up and light it on fire! So, the bus comes back to the station banged up, on fire, and putting nasty smoke into the air. Now, at this point, what is the more accurate word to describe the bus that the rioters attacked: If it were up to you, would you describe the bus as a "bad bus" or a "damaged bus"? It's a damaged bus, right? It started out just fine, and was doing a great job, and it was providing a much needed aervice. - it wasn't a "bad" thing. But now it is on fire and is putting smoke out all over the place which is causing damage to the things around it. But that doesn't mean the bus is "bad", it's just damaged and needs to either be repaired or taken out of service. What is the real problem in this scenario, the bus that is on fire or the rioters that are starting fires? This is like cholesterol. There are no "good" or "bad" cholesterols. But their can be functional or damaged cholesterol. But the cholesterol don't damage themselves - something else is attacking and damaging the cholesterol. So, the problem isn't cholesterol. The problem is the thing that is causing a riot - something else is starting fires all over your body, and your cholesterol is being damaged from it. I hope this helps. There is only cholesterol - it can be damaged, but that doesn't mean there is a "bad" cholesterol. The problem is not with the cholesterol, the problem is with the things that damage the cholesterol. If you can "stop the riots," you will also stop your cholesterol from being damaged. The so-called "bad cholesterol" is just a *_SYMPTOM_* or result of something else - there are "rioters" that are damaging your "buses". We can talk about the "rioters" if you want, but the point here is that thinking about cholesterol as being "good" or "bad" misses the point that there is something else that is the real problem. Once you start thinking in terms of "healthy cholesterol" and "damaged" cholesterol ", you automatically realize that you need to focus on what is causing your cholesterol to become damaged, instead of trying to deal with the cholesterol directly. Don't judge the bus just because some a•sholes beat it up, judge the as•holes. In other words, calling damaged cholesterol "bad" is like calling someone who got mugged "bad". No, the person who got mugged is a victim. The real "bad guy" is the one who is doing the mugging. Hope this helps. Very happy to answer any other questions about cholesterol, the studies behind it, why so many doctors think it is bad, etc etc. Feel free to ask anything.

@@Hertz2laugh Great explanation! On keto for over a year & was doing really good with fatty grass fed rib eye, Kerry's butter, eggs, bacon, except I became a LMHR (Lean mass hyper responder). No family heart disease histories. But, my doctors freaked out and scared the heck out of me. I am now cutting down on the fat to almost low fat and feel horrible - stomach bloating, aches, etc. I am not interested in going the rounds with cardiologists. Will be watching ALL of Dr Ekberg's Cholestrol videos now. Thanks.

You’re fine, we will give you meds once you hit 7.0!! Now through some major stress in my life, I’m constantly hovering at 6.5!! My Grandfather died with no legs below the knees!! I’m NOT GOING THERE!! I absolutely hate exercise but apparently it will now be my best friend along with probiotics & of course NO CARBS or SUGAR!! Again, Thank you!! I'd suggest reading "Dark Calories" by Catherine Shanahan. It provides an interesting look at how high PUFA oils mess up metabolism, leading to high blood sugar as a battle goes on for energy production in the cells. It's not just the carbs fault in those who have gotten ill with T2D. The carbs are just the smoke from the PUFA gun. Witness the spread of type 2 diabetes throughout the world as seed oils get substituted for good fats in native populations that did well enough on their previous high carb diet. First they convince you that saturated fat is bad. Then they get you to eat salads, drowning in seed oil, and T2D goes UP, not down.

35yo male here, 6'1'', and I have always been thin and fit my whole life, despite eating everyday sugary food, cake, sodas, snacks.. I did some blood tests at 29yo, and my Hba1c came back at 5.7%. Prediabetes on the way. I thought, if I already have prediabetes at 29, what's gonna happen when I'm 40? So I quit all of that junk food and now my HBa1c is 5.0%, and I've never felt better. Lesson here? Just because you are young thin and fit, doesn't mean you can just do whatever you want with your body and not worry about your health. We should always eat healthy, and have medical checks, blood work, etc etc..

Wow thank you for this comment.. I don’t feel alone, I have almost exact same problem. I did some research which has changed how I see diabetes. There are thin people with a condition called generalised dyslipidemia who have very little fat and because of this they get type 2 diabetes. From my research in watching doctors, I do think it’s a problem in how our livers are processing. I have ordered Fatty-15 so will see if that has an impact. I think for thin athletic people who become insulin resistant there’s more to the story than just bad diet but something essential our bodies are doing wrong, I am hoping changing diet with no-carb and supplements will help. I am surprised that liver detox tablets are helping my skin and eyes, so I recommend looking into liver detox tablets for 1-2 weeks as well as look into c15 fatty acid. All the best.

Thank you for talking about prediabetes. I am an 80 year old female. I have had an a1c reading of 6.1 +/- for many years. I have not been overweight . I started watching your videos about one year ago and have been eating a Keto diet ever since then. My problem is I have not been able to lower my a1c. All my other tests are good including my insulin that is 2.6. My glucose levels are around 100. My HOMA-ir is .64. What can I do to get my a1c down?

Thank you, Dr. Ekberg! Base on your recommendations I lost weight (around 90 lb), normalized blood sugar and changed my diet. Intermittent Fasting should be renamed as Intermittent Food Consumption System (or anything what can eliminated word - fasting). I believe, words are very important. The Fasting has meaning to start process and to finish it. We should not finish intermittent fasting. It is type of food consuming process and it shouldn’t have the end meaning. Thank you again, Doc! My God I have been pre-diabetic for 8 years. I just found out when I checked my HbA1c 6.4 and triglycerides and all were so high. The doctor has recommended statins first because of high LDC and exercise and nutrition changes. I pray

HbA1c of 6.4 is Type II diabetes, not prediabetes. Statins will make it worse... LDLc means there is something damaging your LDL. Imagine you own a grocery store. All your employees are healthy and happy. One day the employees who are responsible for unloading the delivery trucks start getting sick. It is all the same sickness, and they only get sick when they unload the trucks. What is the smart thing to do? 1) Forcefully lower the number of employees who unload the trucks because the employees are a problem. 2) Investigate the trucks to see if they are causing your employees to become sick? LDLc are like the sick employees - they are not the source of the problem, they are a symptom of a problem. You don't want to lower your cholesterol just because some of the cholesterol are damaged. You want to find out what is damaging your otherwise healthy cholesterol, and fix that instead.

Please don't take the statin. Your cholesterol will be fine when You stop all the fructose& sugars. Dr Sten has lots of videos to help You start to eat for health instead of eating for death. Lower triglycerides (and raise HDL) by lowering carbohydrates to 20 total grams per day or less and increasing beef, butter, bacon and eggs.

@@stevensevek6151 Well I agree 100% with at least the beef, grass fed if You can afford it & eggs, pasture raised if at all possible. I am sensitive to dairy & now pork so I don't have the butter at this stage or bacon but I am doing well. My A1C is normal now along with all my other numbers & my weight is steady for 4 yrs; I am height/weight appropriate. I feel very good about my lifestyle & highly advise everyone to go low carb without the processed stuff, seed oils, grains & sugars plus I can not have any dairy. My photo was taken at 56 & I am still don't look my age at 70. 🤩

I'm grateful for this insight. Applying this "in principle," even while "I was being lazy about it," I dropped from 7.5 to 6.2 in 4 months - to the surprise of my dictor, beccause I didn't swallow the prescribed metformin. All I need to do now is 'stope being lazy about it'. 😊 Thanks doc! 😊

When my (now replaced) doctor told me I was prediabetic, he of course put me on metformin. Then I learned about IF and LC thanks to Dr. Ekberg; when I brought these up with the physician, he said both were "dangerous" and that I needed to eat "as much fruit and whole grains as you want." What??

All cancer cells need glucose to strive especially solid tumors. That's how contrast CT scans find tumors. The contrast , normally iodine, is mixed with glucose in the iv injection. Cancer cells are cells that changed to a fermentation anaerobic process to produce energy. Some tumors also survive on glutamine and that is harder to avoid than sugars so one needs to take in glutamine inhibitors such as high doses of vitamin C complex intravenously or other supplements which inhibits glutamine. Angiogenesis inhibitors are also a must.

No matter how much i take care like daily morning walk , taking less carbohydrate etc to bring down the sugar .. The fasting sugar is never below 125 . It is really frustaing 😢

Got cancer-melanoma. A1C went from 5.9 down to 4.9. Lost 20 lbs. Stopped added sugar. Eat all foods, just NO added sugar. Sweeten coffee and tea with granulated trulia. My own fault.

I have been told I am pre diabetic for a few years now. I was told this week that I have a 6.5 a1c. I have 3 months to get my number down. I am going to do this. Day 2 today. I kept my carbs under 20 each day, have 11k steps daily and ate just lunch and dinner. I will let you know how I do.

Go to zero carb. Try carnivore. Zero carb, fatty meat, nightly intermittent fasting of 16 or 18 hours of zero food, with an eating “window” of only 6 to 8 hours. NO SNACKING. Check out Kelly Hogan, Dr. Anthony Chaffee, Dr. Ken Berry, 5 Minute Body, Dr. Tony Hampton, and other carnivore experts and doctors right here on KZbin. It is completely possible to do zero carbs.

@@joanneclark8256 yes. I have lettuce coming out of the garden. I also do a lot of cabbages. I’m doing great. I fell off the wagon only one day so far. I decided to put back in berries, since I have raspberries in my gardens. Been having a small bowl with Greek yogurt. I’m down 7 lbs so far. I don’t have a way of testing my blood sugar, but my vision is less blurry and I am sleeping way better. I will ask the pharmacy next time I go in.
