It's good to see it finished, Monty. I'm looking forward to hearing somebody play it. I understand your misgivings about shipping it. I've had a guitar in a hard case damaged by a shipping company. And out there somewhere is Canadian musician Dave Carroll whose guitar was damaged by Uniting Airlines and the wrote the song 'United Breaks Guitars'. It became so popular that they asked him repeatedly to take it down. He refused to budge until they paid up.

I look forward to each episode and have no problem with you switching to weekly with more detailed shots. Much appreciated. Thank you. I look forward to hearing this guitar being played. The sustain was excellent and reminded me of the scene from Spinal Tap where the guitar had been sustaining for decades.

@@MontyMcKinnon more detail and longer than that, in my opinion.

@@MontyMcKinnon For shorter videos you might consider tips and tricks that are not necessarily related to a specific stage of the build but rather little time saving tricks you have learned over the years.
@kwaktak4 жыл бұрын
Longer videos with more camera angles, closeups even slideshows would be good for me. I liked how you did that in a recent video but I know that as it does with building a guitar it takes a lot of work. It doesn't have to be fancy, just structured with a little chat in the beginning, maybe a voiceover/musical interlude during the "noisy" parts and a sort of debrief at the end. Just bear in mind that we also get a lot of encouragement from your discussions - both on camera and in the community section. As for updates, a few of us follow you on Instagram and I'd encourage several snapshots per post or even a short IG live video there as well. PS: Stewmac has been flooding me with spam about building kits. Is that something you ever considered doing with your grandson? Even a ukulele can be fun. I understand that with kids there's a certain amount of impulsivity on their part to deal with and a need to be a bit firm with guidance (I say this as a father with a young teen with ADHD and an older teen with severe autism) but it might make a nice "series" in the future.
@MontyMcKinnon4 жыл бұрын
I wondered about putting together a kit and then build it online. Teens and making a guitar is like water to a tea bag.
@kwaktak4 жыл бұрын
Monty McKinnon that’s why I mentioned a ukulele. Grizzly makes a ukulele kit this is basically a finished body and a neck. I bought one to use as practice for French polishing but it could be a good Guinea pig for learning binding too.

You did make it!! Great series and i like your idea of more detail, where decisions come in, your thoughts and processes on jig making. I enjoy the frequency of the videos you provide, but also appreciate the time that is involved, especially as you scope out what to video to go deeper. So its expected that the cutaway build will take a bit longer - no worries! I'm working on number 10 with my daughter - its a great experience and we both get to learn lessons in mistake recovery! My first guitar was a rapid fire three-day weekend class that got me going. The next was a kit off of xBay and they are still available now. The beauty of those is price and some of the difficult parts were completed, such as the sides were bent, the fret board slotted and the bridge was made. I had a real challenge with thicknessing the wood for the body. Had to get some pro help for that. I have the Guitar Making book you shown and Build Your Own Acoustic Guitar by Jonathan Kinkead - another great resource for me. Thanks for taking the time to provide these posts! I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

Fantastic! Well done, sir. I have to tell you, I roast my own coffee and you've had me drinking tea about 80% of the time for the last two months! Roasted carefully and lightly, coffee doesn't generally taste like a used cigar. On the other hand, a good cup of Yorkshire Gold or English breakfast tea is nearly always smooth and satisfying. I'm a fan of closeups and details in videos. I'd vote for a foundational set of videos showing just tools and jig making for sure! I would happily exchange more detail and deeper explanation for less videos. I think a walk-through of an acoustic kit guitar would be more accessible, but that would be quite below your expertise. Just keep making videos, Monty, and I'll be happy. And... the guitar sounds Great! Congratulations!!
