It's been good to see the complete build in one short run, Monty. Things like the Go Deck and the fine work on the bracing are worth watching again. And I noticed your grandson in there - I think he must have worn out his knuckles giving the thumbs up in that video. :)

Love that you took the time to do this! While the end result is beautiful, I think we all got a lot more than a guitar out of this journey 👍

It’s been a year already?!? Where did the time go?!? FWIW I’m glad you did this series so methodically, though I know you were frustrated at times. I’m glad you showed perseverance because it helped me focus on my own build which had hit some snags - and was taking me a lot longer than one year. In fact, I lost track of time. Now I’m nearly in the home stretch as well! I can’t wait to see the next one kick off. I plan on following along - and hopefully keeping pace!

Would it be possible to add electronics to the next acoustic like the Taylor acoustic-electric guitars have? I think that would be an interesting addition. This quick video was a great overview of the last year of videos that I've watched. Fun to see. Good Luck and hope you can continue with your passion for many years!

Yes, I have added lots of electric pickups in the past.

Nice work Monty. I'm not going to build a guitar, but I'm designing some home automation electronics. I'm working at it slowly as I'm not interested in the sales and marketing side of things, and thus I have no hope of making money at this "hobby". But I'll keep going for my own enjoyment!

Mad skills. This is amazing to watch. Do you think it's possible to build one up without as much equipment? I lack many of things that seem important, and I wonder if you can make a guide maybe with more accessible tools. Excellent video again. Cheers!

Bit confused with making the bevelled arm rest, do you NEED to screw it in? Or was this case special for some reason? Anyone know? I just thought you shaped it, and glued it in. I'm looking at doing my first acoustic at some point soon, and really wanna do one :), I don't wanna have to screw it if I don't have to haha :)
@MontyMcKinnon4 жыл бұрын
Andrew the screws are up against 2 pieces of binding make them fit tights against the top. When the arm rest is carved the first strip ends up like a triangle with the slop of the arm rest and the second acts as the binding.

And now a question. What is the finger-picking guitar tune from when Peter appears? It's running around in my head and won't stand up and identify itself. My mind is stuck on Vestapol (not quite it) and John Fahey had something similar about a waterfall I think. Nothing is working in my poor old memory. Back in the early 70s I was learning finger picking from cassette lessons from John Fahey or Stefan Grossman or John Renbourn, or some other of the greats, and that tune was in it. I'd listen to the cassette and try to follow the tab in the book. The fact that you've never heard of me stands as testimony that I wasn't that good as a picker. :)

@@MontyMcKinnon It's tomorrow over here in Oz and I just found the book and started searching for each tune on youtube. The book is How to Play Blues Guitar by Stefan Grossman and the tune on your video is 'You Got the Pocket Book, I Got the Key' by Rev Gary Davis. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqXHg3ifaKehfac Funny story. I had the cassette of Grossman playing in my car for a long time trying to learn the tunes. One day a workmate was with me and asked about the music. I told him it was the guitar lessons that I was trying to learn. Some time later another workmate said something like, 'Steve doesn't think you're much of a guitar player.' I said that I didn't know Steve had ever heard me play. The other guy said, 'You played him something on cassette one day in your car. He said it wasn't real good.' Hmm ... Stefan Grossman, one of the world's top musicians of his genre, and Steve thought it was me being not real good. If only ... 😃
