This was the most ridiculously awesome flight! Right from the one wheel takeoff I was blown away the whole time! I’ve never seen a timber be flown so aggressively. Its really cool to have been able to watch your piloting skills progress in a really short period of time. Flawless, just amazing. I hope one day I’ll be able to get my TT Evo looking this sick! Hi, Jon firstly thanks for all your content great stuff! I've switched to SMC because of your demos, but sometimes I get weird results. I've had the e-flite extra 300 go into soft voltage cutoff on a full charge I had to reduce full charge to 4.34 on some packs to fix that. And some models the packs are excellent but sometimes others will lack power. Is there a way to "trick" the ESC to accept these high voltage packs? One small 3s Carbon cub S2 will pulse on a full 3s 2400 SMC works fine if I partially charge the pack. Please let me know. Thanks Stephen.
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 8 ай бұрын
When you plug in a fully charged pack, pay attention to the beeps coming from the motor. If you hear five with a 4 cell pack, it thinks it's a five cell pack. Fly it until it drops below 17v and plug it back in. It will then act like a regular battery.

Hi, do you find your TT EVO runs hot on the stock system and regular batteries? Mine would come down almost too hot to touch with the stock prop on 4S. I propped it down to a APC 12X6E two blade prop but that didn’t help much. Others on RC Groups have reported the same issue. I wonder if the extra voltage and capacity of the SMC HV packs might put the power system over the edge and fry the motor. I use SMC regular and HV batteries in many planes and they the best.

Going from 11x7 to 12x6 isn't really propping down - it's basically the same. 13x4 is propping down for this model - that's what we fly on. 13x4 pulls fewer amps so the ESC doesn't have to work hard at all. Even LiPo packs were causing issues on the stock setup, so definitely go to 13x4 if you're looking for longevity and efficiency. The motor can take the power, it's the ESC that hits thermal protection at 230F. It doesn't damage the unit, but it does make it throttle back to 60% power. You need the presence of mind to remember to throttle back completely and then throttle up for it to engage to 60% though.

Hey Jon I know this isnt a review of the TT Evo. And, no doubt you're an awesome pilot. Ive been flying the TT Evo a few months now. The A/c flies beautifully in no way are my skills close to yours. But, I have to mention the flaw in the landing gear springs. They break/snap easily always in the same place after a few landings or a significant bounce Ive had to replace a spring at least 6 times since Ive had it. Im not the only one has had the same issues with this a/c. I got so tired of having to replace the springs I finally came up with my own solution and made my own modified landing gear. I basically took a 5 1/2 " aluminum tubing and inside I used 2 mini bungie cords. Works beautifully have yet to break a bungie cord. I love flying this A/C. And Im going to pick a couple of these SMC-Racing Batteries so I can get my skills close to yours. Thx Brother
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! We've only had springs fail like three times in 2.5 years of owning various Timbers, and it's usually from a frontal impact like hitting a large rock or being nose-down while impacting the ground - like coming out of a flat spin. We haven't felt the need to do anything with the springs except keep a spare set around for the once-a-year event where they break for us.

I am sad this batteries are still unavailable in Europe, I want to try them out since I saw you talk marvels about them (and some good info on rcuniverse aswell). ...however... while I know the manufacturer states that they last a lot... I still do not trust that. Not until I test that for myself. All the LiHv I had (even from brands with high reputation like Kokam) performed really well but really started to lose punch after a fairly low amount of cycles. As someone that can have 300+ flights in his batteries before replacing them that is a concern.
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
Reach out to SMC, pretty sure they can work something out for you. We agree you should test things for yourself - but let it be known that we've flown our 5500 test packs quite a bit (well over 20 times) since we got them and there's been no noticeable increase to the battery's internal resistance. The LiHV packs you're used to flying are unfortunately just bad - these are the real deal.

@@TwoBrosRC Thanks a lot for your response. I will try to reach them and see if I can order a pair of batteries. I saw you have flown your test packs and are very happy about them from other videos (maybe it was in the rafale or the f16 one?). @TwoBrosRC

You should plan to run them down to no less than 3.6v per cell, much like LiPo packs.
@flyingfools47
@flyingfools47 Жыл бұрын
@@TwoBrosRC What I meant was what is the absolute minimum voltage before cell damage occurs (which for normal lipos is 3.0). Typically the voltage I fly down to is indeed 3.4-3.6 volts per cell after landing, but while under load from the motor it can sag as low as 3.1-3.2 briefly at high power settings. So to ensure I get the most flight time out of the pack that I possibly can without hurting the battery, I'm more concerned with the absolute minimum voltage than the resting voltage of the pack after landing of that makes sense. I plan on using it with a telemetry capable ESC, so I can program warnings when it nears that absolute minimum voltage

@@flyingfools47 Your best bet for pack longevity is to sacrifice a few seconds of flight time and plan to land around 3.7 to 3.8v. Unforeseen winds and other issues can cause the battery to be irreparably damaged if you try to get more time. But to specifically answer your question, 3.6v is our generally understood limit for HV cells.

@@TwoBrosRC well with live telemetry I'm always able to land immediately once the pack reaches a low voltage. Even if I'm flying more aggressively than normal due to the wind, I still always land at the same voltage since I just land as soon as the telemetry says 3.4-6 v/cell at cruise power. Regardless though that's good to know, I'll be sure to do that. Is your 3.6 v/cell guideline 3.6 volts under load, or 3.6 after landing?

Do y’all think the 6200mAh-75C battery would be a little too much I know you rocked the 3600 in this video I’m worried the 6200 would blown up my plane

We'd recommend the 3600 or 2800. The 6200 would likely not fit and would also cause a lot of wing loading issues.
