A Penn Battle II 6000 might be a solid reel for this type of fishing. Max Inches Per Turn: 41 Max Gear Ratio: 5.6:1 Line Capacity: 490 yards of 30-pound braid

what about a battle III or a spinfisher 5500 or 6500?
@MrTheunsungvoice13 күн бұрын
@cieser128 any Penn Battle or Spinfisher, slammer, or torque for that matter at 5000 or above size is great. If you want to not get sharks, under 30lb braided line with 25lb or under fluoro (5lbs under braid), and at least 300 yards of capacity. Sharks are better at 100lb braid, 250lb fluoro, and at least 500 yards of capacity. You'd be great

Bama, what size weight do you recommend for that diamond jig.
@gtr4ws2 жыл бұрын
Great tip guys. This is my current go to fishing style for the surf. So many bites where as before I would get skunked. You do need a reel with a high retrieval rate to make it easy. A light reel that pulls in 40 inches plus of line per turn would be ideal. However, I use one that pulls in 38 inches per turn, and I get decent results.

Probably the best lure for me on the beach is doc goofy jig, white spro buck tail jigs, or diamond spoon the one that Bama bum use is a vertical jig perfect for bridge in Tampa area

Check out some epoxy jigs too!! I love throwing them up here in the northeast in late summer for Spanish, falsies, bonito, and blues. Put a flashy streamer/ teaaser up in front and throw it with a light surf rod and its the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

@addicted2fishing1192 жыл бұрын
@@madkow2001 I never have but definitely would…been finding out through trial an error these fish will bit anything… the secret is finding them and presenting whatever bait you are using the way they normally eat it. For me it’s cast as far as possible… let it hit bottom ( make sure your gear is rated ) once you have felt the bottom, lift and retrieve and then stop, let it hit the bottom again and repeat! 🍻
@madkow20012 жыл бұрын
Thanks again! We have so many sharks here in SWFL too, I want to take my son out and target them one day. If all goes well we’ll make it a regular thing. I have all the gear just haven’t used it yet. I bought it all last year specifically to target 🦈 at night.

Caught a couple whiting on diamond jigs the other day here in South Texas. Jig was about 3”, fish were about 8”. Mangrove snappers hit the smaller jigs like crazy near the rocks. But it’s a tricky game jigging near the rocks with treble hooks, so you may lose some there.

I think the first catch is a great example of why treble hooks are bad. Nothing good comes from using treble hooks for catch and release....or even catch 'n keep. They can hook top and bottom of the mouth, damage other parts of the fish, catch the angler trying to get them out, ruin nets....and some stories of the fish being out of the water too long dealing with the removal. I am switching to all single in-line hooks. Nothing is worth the trouble of trebles.

Lot of truth there! Thanks for the comment.
