The food in China is way cheaper than Malaysia, surprisingly a big city like Shanghai can get a meat BAO or Pao for CNY1.50 or MYR1 only. In Malaysia, it is sold at MYR2.60!!! What a rip off.

Malaysia is too small. Compared with China, China has a vast territory and rich resources. It is completely self-sufficient in food and vegetables. China also imports a lot of food every year, which is of course cheap.

There is more reason to visit and see China. China is very misunderstood in the West. The size and demographic of this country is equally almost all European countries combined. Varieties in cultures, traditions and cuisines. Also, it is a continuing civilisation.

People in the west seems to have a preconceived idea on how Chinese people and its cuisine should be. The early exposure of Chinese cuisine in the western countries came from the South of China mainly Guangdong and it has been fused and adapted to foreign taste over the years. I supposed that having a fixed view as how the Chinese cuisine ought to be is misplaced and misinformed. Hopefully as more recent Chinese emigrees moving to the west are bringing their varieties of cuisine will gradually change the mindset of the locals.

Everyone should visit Shanghai now as they are in a recession. Lao Wai Jie (Foreigner Street) is practically empty now as some 70% of the foreigners have left due to the Covid lockdown and they haven't returned. You can get good deals in housing now. If you are from certain European countries you can visit for 15 days without a visa. China is trying to boost foreign visitors to provide employment to their people. BEIJING (Reuters) -- China will temporarily exempt citizens of France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia from needing visas to visit the world's second-largest economy in a bid to give a boost to post-pandemic tourism. From Dec. 1 to Nov. 30 next year, citizens of those countries entering China for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends, or transiting for no more than 15 days, will not need a visa, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Friday.

jianbing is really far from "western" it be the other way around if anything the dish was dreamed up by General Zhuge Liang during the 3 kingdom era like 1800 years ago.

Wraps are only a recent phenomenon in the West. The idea was borrowed frm many countries that had them before the wedt. Eg Indians had roti, naan etc flat bread for centuries. China had Jian Bing and other flat breads for ages.

Shanghai is a high-consumption international metropolis, but it depends on what you eat. If you just want to fill your stomach, you can choose street food. It is cheap and affordable, and you can live in it. Of course, Shanghai also has a lot of mid-to-high-end consumption, depending on how much money you have in your pocket. Because China is very large and has abundant resources, food and vegetables, there is no such thing as hunger, unless you have anorexia.

The RMB or Yuan currency has dropped dramatically against the dollar. One Yuan is like just 14 cents in US dollar equivalent. That is, food and restaurants are soooo inexpensive now for tourists from America or Europe that in even tier 1 cities like Shanghai and Beijing, you can eat like a king. That is, yuou can eat Peking Duck in Shanghaiand it will be cheaper than eating a Big Mac from MacDonald's in NYC.
