Spaniard here! Actually, "lentejas" means literally lentils in Spanish, but it's true that as the stew they referred to is so popular here, when you say that you're gonna eat "lentejas", people already understand you mean that stew, not the legume in any other recipe

Yes this looks great thanks! More high protein recipes plz. I want to eat more plant based but I find i need to eat a lot of protein and not too much carbs to be satiated and keep my blood sugar stable. Its a great idea not to add a bunch of rice, as i suppose theres still enough carbs in the lentils and peas. X

So good! Made this today. Super easy. First time cooking with green lentils. For some reason experienced some abdominal discomfort And a mild headache after consuming Lol. goggled said apparently it’s a thing when consuming lentils 🤷‍♀️ guess I’m somewhat sensitive. But wow super filling meal. The discomfort was worth it. Didn’t even miss the oil.

Would the lentils cook faster and softer if you boiled them in plain water, or would that affect the flavour adversely? Doesn't salt (e.g. in stock and tamari) make them harder to cook / soften?

If you want to eat high protein, you want to skip oil for that reason also. You can eat 4 tablespoon of extra extra virgin oil in a second and you get 480 kcal and 0 grams protein. On the contrary if you eat 480 kcal of soybeans you will be stuffed and you'll get 51 grams of protein.

Walnuts, chia seeds and flax seeds are high in omega 3 fatty acids, there is no evidence that high nut consumption is bad for you (but loads of evidence on the contrary), soy products usually contain quite a lot of fat and so do avocados. You don't need oil to survive.
@DaveRaspberry
@DaveRaspberry 5 жыл бұрын
processed useless fat like that has no use to us. All these legumes have enough fat for us. sometimes some really really small amount of nuts or nut milk would help that "fear of where do I get fat from". Oil is useless, sickening and poisonous. We never needed that for survival!

The healthy fats are from nuts, avocados, tahini, olives etc and not actual oil. Oil has no benefits.
@Login1881
@Login1881 5 жыл бұрын
@@AliceMariaxD where do you guys think we get the liquid oils from?? It literally _is_ avocado, sesame, olive, nuts etc but their oil is pressed out, it's neither healthier or worse, the only difference is that if you for example ate the same amount of calories of sunflower seeds and its oil, seeds would of course fill you up easier so only in that sense you can say it's better to consume these foods as they are. but a lil bit of olive oil harms no one

a note on the protein ratio here. so you put in 500 gr of lentils (=50 grams of P), 2 cans of beans (=9gr x 2 = 18 gr), 750 gr of peas (=5,2 gr per 100 gr so equals 75 gr of P) and maybe 5-10 grams from other veggies in protein - all together the total amount of protein = 50 + 18 + 75 + 10 = 153/6 portions = 25 gr P per portion. What am I missing here? where is the other 15grams as stated in the description?

Oil adds unneccesary calories to the dish. Mediterranean Cuisine is healthy despite of the oil it uses, not 'because of'. If you check the nutrients you will see it has 22% of fat which so that should cover the fats imo.

People are just way too obsessed with protein. As long as you eat whole foods and get a balance, it is highly unlikely you will suffer any protein deficiency. Pretty much everything contains some protein. People should worry about getting too MUCH protein, as that is very dangerous. I have never heard of anyone from a developed country who had a protein deficiency, even if they ate a junk food diet.
