At 40:10 The whole "drawing a circle around an ant" thing only works if you use a marker. This is because ants use pheromone trails to be able to follow the other ants, and the scent from the marker blocks the scent of the pheromone trail. So the ant tries to follow the trail, but since you have surrounded it with the scent of the marker, it just wanders around. Once the scent of the marker goes away though, it goes back to following the trail.
