Imagine going from making $1400 per month to just $230 per month. That’s what’s happened to Nurses I met here in Lebanon. Naturally, many are trying to leave the country as fast as possible.

If Libanon wouldn't be a country living from criminal banking it would never exist as a country. They finally get what they deserve.

@Solszn Libanon is an artifical state. It's whole existing was thanks to a tax haven and a banking center for the criminals and dictators in the middle east. It has nothing else done in its existance. A little bit service industry and tiny 17% of agriculture and products. Now it finally collapses because its not worth to exist as a state. Switzerland and Luxembourg at least have stable other branches, even they also have dominant financial sectors. I say good riddance Libanon, fuck your ruling elite and than unite with Jordan. That the only chance.

@@llothar68I agree but there is no way for lebanon to unite with jordan , they can make it work by political and economic reforms, but that is impossible due to corruption now is just the time the people take the hit an die of hunger there is no compatable plan that both saves the economy and saves the same government at the same time , it could be "solved" but it would be temporary and is bound to repeat breakdown

@@snrosh you are an INVASOR my friend and you're are trying to convince yourself about a fake history! or maybe your governments are doing their work. Many israelis archaeologists have tried to find something in the palestinese land, but they weren't lucky. Talking abou peace, you have to know what means to wake up one day and find and invasor in the middle of your house, it's weird and painful! You have to know what means to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent kids,women and old people to take something that is not yours. I'm italian and I share (as many people) the palestinese's pain!! and to conclude let me tell you that your 36 governments have worked much to convince you about lies. You didn't show them along with the others.

It’s sad to see a country like this. I only really want to go back to see my family. There’s nothing left in Lebanon. I would like to point out though that Lebanon kinda had it coming. A religious based government where almost 1/2 of the seats are held by Hezbollah is not really good, non Lebanese are kinda doomed to fail so it’s not very friendly towards immigrants,the government was even then very corrupted. Lebanon is kinda sitting on a possible solution which is make the almost 3 million Palestiniens,Ethiopians,Bangladeshis, Iraqi, and Syrians useful. it’s not much, but it’s better than nothing. It’s sad to see myself, along with so many other people lose faith, and the saddest part is even if the situation gets better, the scars are too deep, people still won’t want to return back

Perhaps these Lebanese who leave the country may be the best thing for Lebanon. To be sure, the nation will lose many of its best and brightest like doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs and teachers but the remittances these emigres will send back to their relatives will help the balance of payments of Lebanon. These emigres will be sending dollars, euros and other hard currencies back to Lebanon which should help the economy.

" after the war we had so many opportunities to leave the country " this is wrong mentality and way of thinking. This is what differentiates, for example, an English to an Arab. After WWII, many English fought the war and won, but England was destroyed. They had the opportunity to leave too anywhere in the world amd start fresh. They stayed despite debt to GDP shooting to 250%, high inflation etc... they rebuilt their country and repositioned themselves as a global power again. However, i agree with the fact that Lebanon is known for bad fiscal policy.

That number of "Lebanese in Brazil" has no actual base on facts, it's just the number stated by governments out of thin air. Actual research shows the number of total descendants of middle easterns in the country is of at most 1 million (the research which got to this number happened using only states which had more immigrants so it's more of a ceiling than a baseline). Regardless, 7-9-11m which are numbers people say from thin air is absolutely not true - we know how many immigrants came from Lebanon and Syria in the turn of the century and they'd have to have increased their numbers by 30 times to get to those numbers in less than 100 years and that's just not something that happens.
@tindrums

They have been living well based on nothing. There is no internal economy and everything is imported. Usd 1400 a month was a luxury that is not affordable to a country with no economic production. Usd 250 seems right. The market has corrected the extravagant living in the past. Hustle is required. Clearly missing in that country.

That some bs. I have Lebanese in my country, and they are just as hard work as any group. They can survive under high pressure, and tough environment. It has nothing to do with people itself or culture, but the system. If the system sucks, no matter how high pressure is the work. People will just choose to do the barely minimal cause there is no reward for working hard and being useful. If work hard in a high pressure system like Australia mean making 10x than average salary in their home country and have a better life, most likely they will choose to work hard in Australia.
