Nice video! Remember being a little boy with family digging in the sand not on the boundary of the surf but a little more inland in the wet sand catching these "sand crabs" as we called them back in the day. We dug holes in the sand with our hands to find them and let them wiggle in our hands before releasing them back into the sand.

Very good tasting little critters. What I do is I take a bottle of vinegar with me to the beach and a small 1 gallon bucket as I catch them and rinse out the sand I but them in vinegar. The vinegar will filter out the sand and such. When I get home I rinse them again then ice bath for one hour. I strain all the water out then I fry them. Once their done I put them in a bowl with olive oil and season them to my liking. Serve them with some white rice and fresh caught fish from that day and you have a full meal. Keep it up.

The best way to cook sand fleas is to boil the water at high and then drop them in. Let them boil for about 3 minutes and then rinse them in cold water. Then soak them for 3 minutes in vinegar. Rise them and then cook them in butter. Take them out and throw them in some flour mixed with your favorite spices. Seal and shake the bag, then thrown them back inside the melted butter. Cook at high temperature for 3 minutes while stirring them and them take them out and let them rest for about 3 minutes. You can eat them like this or dip them on some shrimp sauce and you’ll be loving these little critters for life. Compliment them with some yellow rice and veggies and you have a complete healthy meal.

7:16 btw "boatload" is incorrect, the correct expression is "Buttload" which is an actual unit of measurement dating back to the 14th century. A Butt is a specific barrel size used for wine aging and storing.

I like how you carefully get the small ones after the first bite. You were ready to chow it down like a bowl of cereal.

That was definitely the biggest sea cockroach I have ever seen! And the most! I was digging a hole in the beach and ended up finding a baby. It was insanely small! I love going to the beach and finding them! I love to look for sea cockroaches, crabs, sea worms and sand dollars. The one thing that I never look forward to seeing, is a Portuguese man of war jellyfish. Those things are dangerous and give a pretty bad sting! Love this vid!

Rob, this is one of my favorite KZbin channels. Love it!! If I could offer a bit of constructive criticism it would be your cooking. Everglades is great stuff but salty as is, then you added salt.... Followed by a sweet wine?? Then you sautéed... That softened the shells and made them chewy.... Or unique! lol! Nothing had a chance of tasting good here!! Lol. If you're cooking something like this or softshell crab, flash frying/deep frying is the route to take. These methods will create a crispy shell. Gabe used that technique and, from what it appeared, had better luck. I'd like to see you revisit this and make it work!!
