I just got all the dlc for xmas and have been trying to play more to learn the basics. Randomed into china and thought i'd go for a religious win but the ai pushed me so aggressively that my army developed so strong and I expanded so much that I basically just walked through all the other civs on emperor. Had a blast doing it, I've never expanded that much in a game of civ before and never did a full domination win without dropping at least one nuke. was a fun time.

Very informative first episode! Just a few tips from my experience: - Never accept a delegation from someone who might be attacking you soon. You hand them a combat bonus this way. - Keep note of the gossip. War declarations, capturing a capital, peace treaties, friendship etc. are highly important, as the AI is very unlikely to declare war if they are fighting someone already, but moreso with close friends. Also, you might learn other civs which you haven't seen yet, in this case Jadwiga. Merry Christmas!

The slower you play, the better china gets - on marathon using 6 builder charges to finish a wonder is basically instant as the 1 charge/round becomes irrelevant. You do basically build wonders before you have the tecs, goody huts technically gift you wonders, you can buy wonders for the cost of a builder; pyramids is a completely free instant build as it gives you back your de facto production - and in addition if you plan a bit you tec 10% quicker towards the early wonders... Its not bad if you can center your game around a mass of early wonders.

I have been playing Civ games since II and I am a very respectable immortal and deity player but Emperor is by far my most favorite level to play. I play more like the Civ I represent. Emperor is just more fun, I am encouraged to take greater risk as well as role play the game to a greater extent.

I have some questions about the early game: 1. Is building scout a viable option? What should be your first builds? I always go with scout (to find goody huts and city states) -> slinger (to get archery boost) -> settler. In this game you went double slinger. 2. Should I go for religion? Especially if there is no boost for astrology? 3. What do I need to do when I settle my new cities? They always have bad production, and everything takes long. Should I build a builder? A monument? Some units to defend?
@omagod5005 жыл бұрын
the early game is mostly about playing the hand your are dealt - the optimal answers to these questions will always be determined the spawn location and nearby terrain and/or other civs. i personally tend to ignore religion in most games after pantheon is obtained, it is just not powerful enough in normal games (in small games it can be a great trump card if everyone else ignores it, you can steal an early religious victory). with regard to question 3 I find that the best way to rev up cities in the early game is with traders. for a while you will only have one or two, but just creating routes from your newest city back to your capital, especially if you happen to choose magnus and his food upgrade and if your capital has bonus resources and districts. it doesnt have to be your capital, any city can be a great "trade hub", but mine just always seems to end up being my capital. i also always play as germany, just because i love the adjacency bonus they get and the ability to built districts immediately instead of waiting for pop of 3 or whatever it is.
@PotatoMcWhiskey5 жыл бұрын
Scout and Slinger are both viable opening units. Warriors as well but slingers have better eureka potential
@PotatoMcWhiskey5 жыл бұрын
When you settle a new city eithet look for: Mines to improve and get production or woods/jungle to chop for prpduction. Either way builders are needed in thise cities. Usually a good idea to get stuff like granaries and monuments to get the city growing its pop amd borders.

I like using quick build costs and marathon game modes. Yes... you do need to add a few items in. You will need the $ on coastal tiles and you will need a building which allows $ on river tiles. This allows for more units. Bigger wars. Now you need a land based transport so that spearman actually gets to the fight before we research tanks. Movement being an issue in Civ as always. We unfortunately need something to make people happy as we are going to be in some massive long term wars here that span crazy lengths of time and as always Civ has made it painful to be at war..... so we add a building to the encampment and or harbor that basically cancels out the effects of war weariness. If you want you can even add in some bushido ideas for bonuses ....winning fights... Be a good little Klingon now, die with honor. Honestly the Vikings should be utterly immune to war weariness. Seriously. and they absolutely should have the option to be pagan....stay with the old gods. and be rewarded for it. Ok... so now that we have made the game more fun. enjoy.

First unit should be a scout (mobility based promotions, faster leveling, better base movement) so you can get information on what's around your city and start plotting expansion sites. Slinger should only be first if you confirm that a nearby Barb camp exists. And you shouldn't be exploring with your first warrior far from your first city.

@@PotatoMcWhiskey How much effort is required to get that information? It's the delegation that is providing that, right? (honest question, I don't really know the mechanics but I assume that is all in play) and value is subjective unless you know something I don't.. I mean, 25 gold? You want to send the delegate anyway and you'll get the information so you may as well pay attention to it. This particular information would have definitely been nice to notice for you in the situation and it would have saved you time if nothing else. When it pops up, you are at that moment wondering whether or not you should go for a warrior or builder and you choose warrior because of France and the legitimate concern they may attack you. If you would have noticed the message, you wouldn't have had to think twice about that choice because you would have known France was already busy dealing with America... and not to mention, it would have let you know America was up there before meeting them but of course it doesn't matter in this case because they get knocked out which is more pertinent information to the situation. i think the "settling too close" trigger activates if you settle 7 tiles or closer to one of their cities. i've tested it some and haven't seen the AI complain about 8 tiles away, but they seem to reliably complain about 7 or less (as in, 6 empty tiles between cities = 7 tiles away).
@jisookim69045 жыл бұрын
No, it is a 10 tiles radius. I didn't look into the coding because if I knew how to code I would change some flaws in the AI behaviour but I'm certain it's 10 tiles because when you made a promise not to settle near them, settling 10 tiles away or closer triggers the 'promise broken' notification. Also I had AI complain about cities 10 tiles awag from them. Which gets ridiculous when it's only 5 tiles from my capital. 10 tiles also make sense because that is the same as the loyalty radius.

@PotatoMcWhiskey5 жыл бұрын
Entertainment districts can help with war weariness, trading for amenities, Civic cards can reduce war weariness. Honestly the best thing to do is to have fast wars, and don't worry about war weariness unless your cities are starting to hit low enough amenities to start having rebellions. As long as you're not having rebellions you're fine.

I'm personally a king difficulty player and am flirting with the possibility of starting on emperor however i'm getting kind of put off since you taut how hard this difficulty is. You've won gamed on deity for gods sake, emperor should be peace of cake to you.. Idk man...
@PotatoMcWhiskey5 жыл бұрын
King isn't much harder than prince. Emperor is where the difficulty starts to ramp up.

@@PotatoMcWhiskey Thats why im so reluctant to give it a go. I consider you an expert and was kind of surprised that you yourself find it difficult considering you've won deity difficulty.
@abeke55235 жыл бұрын
@@idcaf just because he said it's difficult doesn't mean it's difficult for him. Emperor is just hard in general. You may wanna go domination first (or half-domination science, that's how I won my first Emperor game), because it's the easiest victory.

@@PotatoMcWhiskey My bad, I thought I remembered it from a previous video of yours. Was "fuckton" just too exaggerated, or is it bad?
