The conversation about longevity inevitably includes the goal of aging with strength and vitality. At 70 years old, today’s guest brings a wealth of experience and insight into health and well-being. He discusses his shift from focusing on demanding endurance activities to sustainable activities that bring him joy. Prepare to be inspired.
Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru interviews Mark Sisson to hear his insights on longevity and wellness. After more than thirty years in the fitness industry, Mark explains why he has shifted his focus away from supplements to prioritize mobility, metabolic flexibility, and intuitive eating. He also tells the story behind his creation of minimalist shoes and discusses the detrimental effects of modern sneakers on our feet. Dhru and Mark explore the lessons from Blue Zones and how we can intentionally integrate them into our lives to create a joyful existence.
Mark Sisson is a prominent health and fitness expert, author, and entrepreneur known for pioneering the "Primal" movement. Transitioning from athlete to advocate, he founded Mark's Daily Apple, a blog promoting ancestral health principles, including a high-fat, low-carb diet, functional fitness, and overall wellness. Sisson has authored several influential books, including The Primal Blueprint. In 2015, he launched Primal Kitchen, a line of health-conscious food products that quickly gained popularity for its clean, real-food ingredients. Sisson's work has inspired millions to rethink conventional health wisdom and adopt a more holistic approach to well-being, emphasizing the importance of natural movement, stress management, and nutrient-dense foods.
In this episode, Dhru and Mark dive into:

As a 67 year old female, I started intermittent fasting in 2020. Have never looked back. I eat 2 meals a day. Don't count calories, try to get my protein and good fats in which helps to satiate. Before 2020 all my life I would have blood sugar crashes. I apparently assumed it was just my genetic makeup until I stopped eating lots of carbs and sugars. Great discussion.

Nice guy .. the part about needing more nutrients when you eat grains was good info, I get it. The part about enjoying life with no money is tough. I know people with no money and are too tired to go for a walk. 😢 I liked the part where he said don’t eat potato chips to fix a trauma that happened 40 years ago or yesterday, a walk is a better remedy. I also had an Achilles heal torn and it hurt for years.. I took collagen and it hasn’t been acting up at all but never realized it was the collagen that worked. Great talk .. the talk on walk was wicked inspiring and I laughed at how runners aren’t in shape 😂 they walk to heal :) I’m gonna pass on the 1/2 marathon I was planning on, go barefoot and stretch more. God bless you for helping so many. Peace love joy - and - keep giving ! ❤

Hello. I do agree life with NO money can be a challenge we raised 3 daughters on hit and miss jobs. The example I learned from my mother, you have to manage and not spend on things you don't need. Sacrifice and budgeting pay check to paycheck. The goal is to not be in debt when you retire. Also we lived on one income, I was stay at home mom. As far as running, that is something I never did. A lot of people I know have ran so much and for so long they have ruined their knees. The thing I love is taking long walks early in the mornings! Have a good day!

I am 65 years old and i love the way you think. I want to maintain a healthy weight with a good lifestyle. Quality food first. Good habits 3 balanced meals a day snack when hungry rarely. More importantly prevent diabetes. Strive for optimal metabolic health. Take medication only if necessary and then be on the lowest dose possible. Minmimalist minimal medication. Balance. Eating what I need . I asked my doctor if she did fasting insulin. She replied no why. I explained diabetes may be detected earlier. I have a family history of diabetes. She just looked me in the eye eye and said. Your sic has always been normal. Your weight is good. Diet is good. You followed weight watchers.basically not worried about me.I think she wonders where i come up with this stuff. I focus on my food. My husband focuses on fitness. Tends to overdo it. I try to prevent health problems as much as possible balance is key moderation. I want to be healthy and happy. By the way your guest looks great for his age. Lots of wisdom. There's no need to rely on collagen supplements if your diet already includes an ample amount of collagen. Take China, for instance 🇨🇳. The Chinese have been incorporating collagen-rich foods like chicken legs, pork skin, jellyfish, and bone broth soup into their meals for thousands of years. When you visit Chinese gardens, you'll often witness elderly individuals joyfully participating in activities such as dancing 💃, practicing tai chi 🧘‍♂, or performing incredible stunts on horizontal bars 🤸‍♀. I understand that the thought of "Bat soup" might cross your mind, LOL 😄. However, it's essential to clarify that Chinese cuisine doesn't actually include "Bat soup." 🦇🍲 The widely circulated image and video associated with "Bat soup" have been proven to be fake and were originally taken in Palau, Micronesia. It's worth noting that bats are a common source of protein for people living in the Palau islands.

I would love to have intuitive eating skills however, we live in a society full of abundance. I feel like if there is a way to increase our metabolism so we can enjoy a little more of all that's in front of us, that it is a better way to adapt to our current society and maintain our health. I'm sticking with Dr. Gabrielle and Sal Di Stefano approach for health and longevity!

Because protein is the satiety macro and the body eats until its protein needs are satisfied. In order to get 50g of protein from Macadamia nuts you would need to eat almost 2 pounds of nuts.

While I appreciate anecdotal observations and everyone is unique in some way it doesnt outweigh research and Mark Sisson is more of an outlier and exception. Most people do NOT struggle to eat, most struggle with eating too much, most people due to poor choices etc are hungry more often then forcing themselves to eat. I have been on a reverse then bulk and felt the struggle of eating more food and forcing it down but this was only a season for growth not a permanent state. Although its interesting its pretty unrelatable compared to most who havent also had decades of being an athlete. The body he has now wasn't built on OMAD and low protein.
@FaithandSunshine
@FaithandSunshine 4 күн бұрын
Totally agree!!! I was a bit confused!
@LauraB.335
@LauraB.335 8 сағат бұрын
His point is that people need to stop eating as many carbs and as often to become metabolically flexible and then they’re not hungry all the time. He is well aware that the majority of people are hungry and eat too much. Despite being an athlete for much of his life, he was hungry all the time and ate way too many carbs when he was younger. So, even though he looked great because of all his working out, his body was falling apart, in constant pain, and he had to look for bathrooms wherever he went due to IBS. It wasn’t until he ate fewer carbs less often that he got to a state of metabolic flexibility, which allows him the ability to not eat and not feel hungry as often. You’ve got to start somewhere and he tells you how to do it. Saying he’s different because he’s an athlete is just an excuse, because he was in the exact same situation where he was eating carbs and hungry all the time.
@AngCJ-18444
@AngCJ-18444 7 сағат бұрын
@LauraB.335 regardless of the point that people generally eat too many carbs and fat due to poor food choices, he had muscle that was built and it wasn't built on OMAD and fasting and low protein. I think you are underestimating the impact of lean mass on a person's metabolism and health which won't be built to the point you can coast in your old age if you don't eat, do omad or low protein. That advice is irresponsible and it's not how he got where he is. Again I think it's just the way he put it across forgetting the vast majority of people do not have that much lean mass to support that type of health. He even notes his wife had to eat more to build a booty. He didn't say she fasted her butt on 😅

@kathystclair9485
@kathystclair9485 4 күн бұрын
My goal is not to live to be 90, but instead to live a healthy lifestyle as long as I do live so that I can be independent. My MIL is 95 and her vibrancy is so gone. Still good mind, but loneliness and loss of independence to drive has taken her from the happy go lucky lady I always knew. She has lost all her children, except for my husband, no grandchildren who come to see her except my daughters. She's outlived all her friends and most family. Loneliness is the biggest killer of the elderly, if not the body, the mind. No thank you, I'd rather not live that long. I'm 67, and if I can stay healthy until the good Lord calls me that's good enough.

This is not complicated, I don't see why he can't figure it out. Two meals is correct, but it should be Breakfast and Lunch, not Lunch and Dinner. I don't know if it is just Coffee drinkers that feel they need to skip breakfast, but that should be your biggest meal of the day. Also, if you have difficulty getting 1G of protein per lb body weight, it is probably because you are eating crappy vegetables that are wrecking your digestion and bloating you, so you are not able to eat enough meat.
@LauraB.335
@LauraB.335 8 сағат бұрын
Some people like to eat OMAD or they prefer to eat lunch and dinner, so they can eat with their families or they just aren’t hungry for breakfast. It isn’t complicated unless you’re trying to do everything right. Take all the info and then do whatever works for you, even if that means eating dinner.

I'm 4 months into ketovore with I.F. with 3 other adults in my home who regularly eat candy, waffles, pastries, cold cereals, chips and so forth. It's down to my willpower and my drive to eat correctly for my Metabolic health. I have been plagued with hyperinsulinemia through birthing 7 healthy babies, and working a busy job in my late 40s, 50s. Then a car accident changed my trajectory. Now at 68yrs, I'm riddled with osteoarthritis and can no longer work. My ketovore diet has been a learning, worthwhile endeavor. I Yoyo-ed a bit and now taking that off. It's a simple adult problem that needs mastered. I do like his collagen comments. I'm taking a gelatin powder that's simple and pure. It's the kind candy makers use. Its satisfying and it's simple to mix up with my last 3 gulps of coffee around noon. My first meal of food is around 4:00-5:00pm. I will eat some eggs, bacon or other simple proteins again around 8:00pm. ❤ FIND YOUR KETO HAPPY PLACE. Grab onto your remaining health while you can. Take enzymes to improve your digestion and assimilation. Take whole food supplements. PRAY REGULARLY. Give thanks, be kind, love your family. 🎉 Enjoy your life.

Meat provides everything you need, according to some. While others supplement with iodine, D3, K2, and magnesium. For many, vegetables irritate health situations. They also have anti-nutrients in them that can keep you from absorbing all the nutrients from other food. If you want to eat veggies, go ahead, but not everyone does.
