Hello! Earlier this year I bought a longboard and spent 1 month learning how to skate/longboard dance. This is my progress video seeing how many tricks I can learn. Please share any tips or advice with me to help me get better! ✨
I hope this also inspires other beginners to pick up a skateboard and learn too. In Australia longboard dancing doesn't seem too common here, or at least I've never seen it! If there's any people from the Gold Coast that are learning hmu!!

Thanks for sharing this. I own a board since two years and just started again with the steps last weeks and it's so frustrating to me to see that i am doing little progress next to all the "pros", so seeing this progress video is indeed a motivating thing to see, because it shows the reality and not the high polished version of someone who has been doing it for a longer period now. Yo don't stop and always make sure it's for fun, and remember alot of those "pros" skate virtually daily (with others that teach or help them) and/or have been for 2, 3, 5+ years (and they don't post the falls). Keep it up. 👍🏾

Yeah the cross stepping feels so scary - it definitely helps to have a friend help you. But also have full protection gear helps too with the commitment if you know you're not going to get hurt. Hope you give it a go!

Ahhh this is so cool and motivating to watch! I started about a week ago and I'm still shaky on the board but I'm trying to get more comfortable and can do some slightly wonky 180s, cross steps and peter pans already! I'm really excited to go out and skate every morning and it's been so much for up until now. seriously a great progression vid. i like when people show the actual progress, some of the fails and laughs and just being realistic. it's super helpful for people going into it to know what to expect and not feel like you're supposed to be able to do it the instant you drop down some wheels. also, for people goin through it right now and wondering why the progression is slow. just is sometimes. it was also fun to see the people with you and the different areas you're skating. MAN am i jealous you found a basketball court AND it's empty. not gonna happen in my area, that's for sure. idk why it's so barren. and if there is a hoop, people are playing a full on game. i just wanna practice my shots..... Nice progress. I just built my first longboard and the only thing I care about right now is pumping, carving and stopping.😬 I never even knew about the board dancing stuff that I see on KZbin. Before getting really into stepping around on the board I want the basics to be sunk in good. Keep it up.

Well done! It's wild to me to start riding switch week one. To me it's one of the most difficult things you can do on a longboard. It is a great thing to practice especially for dancing but don't be discouraged if it's a struggle. It's just like trying to write with you non dominant hand.

Great progress in one month! You might want to add more protection (helmet, hip, elbow, sliding gloves, optional back spine protector if you go faster or downhill longboarding like my doing), Stay safe! BTW, I have KZbin which explains the basics techniques (not dancing - you seem to like to do dancing with that dancing board). The KZbin I created is a diary for me to learn how, why, and what to do to control a longboard (downhill longboarding) so that, once I understood all the physics and what, how, etc, I trusted the law of physics. After that moment of "ahh-haa, now I fully understood all the techniques from physics aspects and I totally trust (blind-eye) 'the law of physics" about ow every move those professional downhill longboarders' techniques, it just took me not very long to actually did the sliding (a major barrier back then for me to overcome). Anyway, I know you are more into 'dancing longboard'. Just in case, maybe you can learn from what I self-learn using my fairly (in PowerPoint format, you can even down the PowerPoint file). Best for your continuous improvements. Yoo you're so brave for skating in front of all those people lol. I've been skating for 2 years but i still consider myself a beginner. I'm not sure what type of trucks you are using but have you considered softer bushings? I currently use raked caliber 3s with orangatang knuckles soft durameter 87a (Im 5'8, 120 lb) and it feels like writing cursive on the concrete, its amazing!

Omgg yeahh it’s so hard. I already knew how to skate goofy so I was trying to get used to regular stance. I surf regular stance so it was really confusing me as to which way I needed to skate. Definitely feels like you’re re learning

I’m trying to figure out my stance. If you were to kick a soccer ball what leg would you use?

I kick a soccer ball with my right foot, which should be the foot I use for pushing my skateboard with but instead I feel more comfortable with my right foot on the board and pushing with my left. It may depend what feels more comfortable for you and if you can somehow practice both that would be so awesome because it really helps with longboard dancing to learn both! Also I’m a bit of a weird example because when I skate I’m goofy stance but when I surf I’m regular stance. Usually people have the same stance over all board sports but for some reason I just found skating goofy easier. Hope you figure out yours!

Personally I haven’t quite got the hang of it! But I think you got to get comfortable balancing on the board on the pivot and then just commit to turning your whole body around. Takes a lot of practice and trust that you won’t fall over - I’m sure there’s some better tutorials online 🤩

I don't know why. But its easier for a regular to learn goofy.. And for a goofy its harder to learn regular.. This is why most regulars can sk8 on both sides and switch like notting... it takes more practice and more time for a goofy to be confortable on regular and it always feels weird to switch on regular.
