Thanks for the video so I live on Maui here in Hawaii and the price of living is absolutely expensive! there's a T7 sitting in the local dealership right now however I think I'm going to remain responsible save some money and get the KLR 650, there's only one fear I have... there's a T7 driving around the island and if I ever pass it on my KLR I'm afraid I'll start crying!... lol 😂 so much for being a grown up. Aloha

Just remember this when you do pass him, by the time he decks it out with crash bars luggage etc, you can almost have two KLR's instead of his bikes. The money you save on the KLR price, you can take the wife on vacation. Speaking of, Where do you go when you live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. That is the only state of the 40 i have been to, I was looking for jobs and didnt want to leave at the end of my two week :) Dale

Another great video my friend. With any luck, I will be riding mine home this afternoon, This has been a little over a full month of nonsense trying to get one bought here. hahahaha, I have never had this much trouble trying to buy a simple bike. Anyhow, Its early this morning, I plan to have one by this time this afternoon. Keep up the fun videos. Keep us posted on the Thermobob, I have had two other KLR's in the past and didnt do the thermo bob on either, I did the doo hickey spring change out, but never did the thermo bob. Keep up the fun videos and have a safe week my freind. dale

That base model in Sand color, with Tusk DSport tires and the 3D Windscreen Riser just looks bad ass. U look like a big fella, hows the suspension on the faster desert trails like that? I had a Tiger 800xcx when I was out there, was just over all too much power/electronics/cost except the suspension was amazing.
@sputters20002 жыл бұрын
I’m 170lbs and the rear shock is supper weak, you can replace the rear spring for $80 which makes the bike feel like a entirely different bike . Front suspension is actually really good but if you wanna do some more aggressive trails/jumps you’ll want some progressive springs. So for just $280 you can upgrade both front and rear suspension
@johnbutler90122 жыл бұрын
the suspension is totally fine if I'm just doing mild riding on dirt roads and highways. It is way too soft for riding very fast off road. I've already ordered new upgraded suspension. It's still 4-6 weeks out.

@@johnbutler9012 what suspension did you get? I got Top Guns 8kg
@dicktrickle41972 жыл бұрын
The suspension is not the best, I'd say more suited for dirt road or pavement, but the weight of the bike is what holds it up from being able to do more extreme off road

Looks a lot like Reno area, where are you at? I lived in Sparks for a while and loved the fact that you could hop on an ATV In the neighborhood with a gun on your rack and head out from your house and have some fun. So far my impression of my KLR is if you ask how the acceleration is, I would say "its fine" Suspension? "its fine" On road manners "its good" off road capability "its fine" the torque of the motor "its fine" the tires "they're fine" its a bike that's "fine, good, its fine" and that is what is so enjoyable about it. I get my thirst for adrenaline on my dirt bikes, this KLR is great for enjoying the simple stuff in life. And really they are very capable machines.

Coming off a crf250l, my KLR650 comfort wise is great! That 2x6 honda calls a seat, killed my ass ever time I rode it for extended periods🤣 The KLR650’s 1st gear is a little higher than I like, but I can live with it
@Heartlanddualsport2 жыл бұрын
The Ole DRZ was the same as far as seat comfort, the KLR is so much better, I hear this Gen 3 is even better.
@FernitoAM Жыл бұрын
@craigcook1571 hey mate. I too have a crf250 (rally) and thinking about the klr. I love the rally but I odten do long rides and seat is a killer. Windscreen not great either and just a little underpowered. It is also trickier to carry stuff comfortably. How did u find the extra power on the klr? Big difference? How about wind protection? I heard seat is great. How are you finding the klr now? Any new thoughts?
@craigcook1571 Жыл бұрын
@@FernitoAM I like it, it’s geared a little high for my liking, but I ride mostly back roads some dirt, some oil dirt, and it can do highway speeds (up to 65 smooth, a little buzzy above that). I would recommend trying to ride one before buying, and by that I mean your style of riding, because if you really like to ride technical trails like I’ve seen some of the Aussie’s do on utube you may not be happy with it. I’m thinking about changing sprockets on mine to get a little more low end torque. The seat is 1000times more comfortable than the 250l, although not perfect, but I bought some padded riding shorts that have made a ton of difference too. All this being said, I really do like the bike, and there is no perfect motorcycle, or wife either for that matter, and I’ve been married for 42yrs, so I doubt I change scooters anytime soon either🤷🏻♂️

For the price of a Thermo-Bob, I'd rather save the money and buy a 685cc upgrade when the time comes. Edit, 8 months later: the piston rings, oil temp, and cylinder walls do not change temperature with coolant temp fluctuations, and cylinders will always wear oblong in the direction of crank travel. Those are my arguments against it; it's snake oil IMHO.

Too bad they don't make a horizontal opposed version of the KLR. Why is BMW the only mfr that knows the mechanical beauty of them?
@chadkline42682 жыл бұрын
@Paul Ridgeway I don't know. I like that design. Horizontal-opposed engines: A. They are the best air cooled designs. B. They protect legs+ankles from injury. C. They have a low center of gravity. D. The strokes are self balancing, to a great extent. E. They are much easier to repair+maintain. F. They keep the legs warm in cold temperatures.
