Installed mine this week. Incredible speeds. 150-300 mbs. And this is on a yacht in a marina where according to Starlink there is little or no coverage. My entire boat is now connected. Navigation, entertainment, iPads, iPhones, TVs. Amazing product and it sets itself up automatically. This will put every ISP on the planet out of business. And with Bezos launching a a competitive network the costs will be competitive. Love it.

Very good and fair review. Like you, we ordered a year ago (in Feb) and received ours two weeks ago. We're very rural in southern Pennsylvania and have the tree situation too, but luckily the lay of the land (and tree locations) is such that the northern exposure is obstruction free. We've had almost no outages so far and those we did have only lasted 4 or 5 seconds. We were previously on DSL with 9 down and 1 up. Painful! We've been quite pleased with Starlink after living with that, I can tell you! Haven't checked you previous videos yet, so you may have done this, but it would be nice to see your "obstructions compass" while you had the app open. Thanks for taking the time to do your review.

I'm excited to see someone close to us got Starlink! We put our reservation in on 2-9-2021 and have been impatiently waiting for almost 13 months.. We are stuck with DSL or hotspots. We luckily have a clear view of the sky and shouldn't have any obstruction issues (fingers crossed). I sure hope we get ours soon here in Northwest PA!

@@davidsobina180 It'll happen, and sooner rather than later, we hope! Every day we're more pleased with ours and are getting 200 - 250 down and 10 to 20 up routinely and NO outages. The only thing we're waiting for now is the ethernet adapter and the wall mount. We've run all the wire and just place the dish on the roof temporarily using the mount it came with attached to 2X8's and weighted with bricks. I know a guy on the southern tier of NY that got his a year ago and he raves about it all the time.

Great video, very helpful. It's nice to see this after coming from an entitled Starlink user whining about not getting his 1gbps speed, not having a mesh system included, having to download the app to configure the setup, and was just basically "annoyed" with the whole deal. After living with the speeds I've had to run for more than a decade, this will be heaven sent. We were paying more than this for 1.1mbps dsl because it was the only game in town for years. Switched a few years back to 4G internet that was better at 10 - 15mbps on a good day but still... I'm just over a year on my wait. Got into beta on 2/20/21 and got my notification the other day so just waiting to ship now. Can't wait. Congrats on getting yours and I subbed so looking forward to more videos!

Outstanding Video and report! Thank you. 2 questions: 1. You mentioned you have lots of video conference calls, as do we... how often are your conference calls interrupted? This is my major worry. 2. On your existing home, how did you get the system into your home/office or IT closet? It seems the cable has fittings and such. On my house I do have a cable box, but no holes large enough for passing the cable into the home. Cheers, Eric

Great questions! 1.) On average I would say once a Zoom meeting I will freeze and then it unfreezes like 10 seconds later so not too bad. But I think that will depend on multiple things, your location, time of the meeting, software being used etc. That’s just our experience. 2.) I had to drill into the house and fill in the hole. Don’t necessarily recommend especially if you already have other practical entry points. We didn’t so that was our only option. The hole needed is only about an inch in diameter. Hope that helps!

I still have both internet providers in my house but am thinking about dropping the DSL , probably after I get rid of the 4 trees that give me some obstruction is when that will happen .

@@slathibatfas7682 250k is far too slow to stream even one device, I had 256K back when I had dial up and it was really slow plus there are 5 adults and 2 kids in this 7 bedroom house which makes the 50gbits we get out of our dual line DSL(supposed to be 100) too slow for the household needs. Since I upgraded to the Gen3 router my actual speed is over 200Gbits so I'm pretty happy with Starlink.

Download between 250 and 340mbs Upload around 25mbs Annoying that you have to buy an extra box to hard wire into your system as the new version only comes with wifi now. For our business its been well worth it and cheaper than our existing fibre supply which had less than half the upload speeds.

I currently have Viasat. My real-world download speed is about 1 Mbps. Yep, 1. With a 40 GB cap for $85/month. I can't use any streaming services. I just sent Starlink my $99 fee to get on the waiting list. I'm in Florida, and it looks like Florida is very low on their priority list. I've had my Starlink for over a year. It's better in almost every way than Comcast. There are fewer buffering pauses and fewer outright outages. I can get Comcast at 1 MB speed. But I choose to use the cheapest which is 300mbs speed. Th fastest Starlink test I've run has been about 280 Mbs. The Comcast tests at about 340 Mbs. Since I stream video each app takes some time to load. Starlink, is faster. I can be running two HD televisions and surf the web with no slow downs or pauses. Originally a 3 or 4 minute pause was normal every day, but now I notice no pauses. Starlink prices are rising, so that will stop a lot of people from using it. It was intended to supply people in areas where there are no sufficient solutions so the $599 price plus $110 a month will still be very attractive to people who have poor service.

Been waiting for 2 years here in Alaska since I signed up for beta. That said you are still seeing much better bandwidth than our current DSL of 15mbs down/1mbs up that costs me $120.00 a month for. So Starlink will be a huge upgrade (its due sometime in 2022), though honestly I was hoping for more upload bandwidth, as 3 to 7mbs still seems super low for uploads. I would be happy to sacrifice 20% off the download speed to put that bandwidth on the upload speed. Or even better yet, allow some of us to choose symmetric plans (same average speeds up and down) rather than the asymmetric that it currently is.

When they talked about lowering the cost of the terminal, it refers to production cost. In the early batch, a single dish that they sold for $500 cost around $2500, later they managed to reduce it to around $1500, and SpaceX's president said it would later reduce to half, so around $750. So, currently, if you buy a dish for Starlink they're subsidizing you for it. That's why Elon always said their focus is not going bankrupt.
@CypressSparrowHomestead
@CypressSparrowHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
Good point, I did see an interview where they Elon was talking about production costs and trying to lower those so that they don’t go bankrupt like you said. I saw another interview of him saying that as Starlink becomes more adopted and they get their production costs lower we could see decreases monthly pricing. I’ll believe it when I see but don’t mind wishful thinking. Thanks for the insight!
@807800
@807800 2 жыл бұрын
@@CypressSparrowHomestead I think it's a matter of "when" and not "if" they would lower the pricing. Since lowering the pricing is the only way they can massively increase the number of their customers/revenue, just like the Tesla Model 3 to Model S. After all, the marginal cost of serving an extra customer is pretty low. The satellite is practically everywhere whether there's a customer or not, unlike fiber service. So, extra power is practically the only marginal cost here, and that's coming from the satellite's solar panel, sun, free. With a lifespan of around 5-6 years max for each satellite, this just makes sense. Maybe, there would be regional pricing like games on Steam. And yeah, thank you for your review. While I currently have fiber service, the pricing isn't that good, Starlink has better pricing per Mbps. And it's all because of monopoly, my ISP is the only option available here. Can't wait till Starlink is available here and hopefully with even faster speed.

tried the same server and averaged ping of 89, up of 7.5 and download of 100+. Not bad from Victoria, BC, Canada. It was worth the wait to get it ( first gen dish ) and was cheaper as the house has not had cable or telephone for over 10 years and the ' install cost ' for either of the 2 providers would have been well over $300CAD and then the equipment ( forced rental for the life of the contract, no outright own from either ) plus the ' discount ' being half the rate for 3 months on internet, 6 months on TV ( that I didn't want ) and the remainder of the contract due if canceled early ( from either provider). The install cost at the rate mentioned was after half an hour discussing it with a sales agent and would have been bundled in to the first bill along with equipment rental and the 6 months of TV/Internet package. It would have been higher for JUST internet ( what I want ) and no discount, ever, and having to call in at any outage of service. I lived on a gulf island and know how my family still there have to call in daily during the storm season to ask for credit since their equipment to the island is still with out power and how it's like pulling teeth over the phone each day the power is out. Putting the dish on the roof, with the official pipe adapter, routing the cable inside and online in an hour ( had to warm up after being outside ) and it ' just working ' for the price I paid was cheaper, faster, on my time for install and best of all more reliable than what others in my neighborhood have with either of the ' Big 2 ' companies. I technically have the option for ' Optik ' to the house, however Telus will not give an installation quote over the phone, only try and arrange an appointment that will be charged for.

After a year of waiting, I finally received and installed our Dish v.2 first week of Feb. At first, everything was fine. But after abour 10 days the average download slowed down about 1/2-2/3 the stated download target... and upload was 1/2-3/4 what was stated in the email from Starlink. They are either throttling the speed OR they simply do not have enough ground station capacity. Either way, it needs to be fixed. And YES, I have 'factory reset' the router, per the recommendation from many sources. I have 0% obstructions, so that is not the cause at all. I'm going to give it about 3 months to stabilize before I reevaluate again and then determine my next steps.

The minimal blips in outage isn't a big deal, not enough to have any direct concern. I doubt it would pose any issue to streaming within that short amount of time. The big issue with the other Satellite companies or cell hotspots is the fact they are not really keeping up with the world today. The fact is our lives in 2022 + beyond, what we do, operate or work, etc, is totally data driven (movies, games, software, jobs, and so on). The cost of Starlink is actually a savings to me using ViaSat - about $150 per month of 25/5 and a 150GB lid. I never, ever, ever came close to those speeds and the cap...can be chewed up quickly.

Only worth it if there is no availability or cheaper alternative in terms of good value for your money in the area. However, if you look around and you have all the available options to choose, then starlink would not be ranked top or near top. Because for a community fibre wired network in the city, we get around 3Gbps for Download and Upload speeds, and if you're a business willing to spend extra per month, you can get up to 10Gbps. This is why it is crazy and more of a...slap in a face to those who don't have this and are far out in rural/urbans area who pay a very high monthly price. There are pros and cons but hearing that makes me sick that the price should be reduced to below $40-50 per month in my opinion. More so for those in Australia who suffer the most in internet speed and realibility.

StarLink has implimented a Fair Use Policy now. After 1 TB of data in a billing cycle your data will be converted to basic access. Meaning deprioritized or best effort speeds. HOWEVER to avoid hitting 1 TB of priority data just do things off peak times currently 07:00- 23:00. For $110.00 plus tax I would highly recommend that you look into Verizon LTE or 5G(C Band) home fixed unlimited internet subject to give mobile users network priority at either $25 a month with Verizon service and applicable rate plan and autopay or $60 without service with Verizon. Or T-Mobile home internet if available in your area. Now that more and more people are seeing StarLink as an option they are facing network congestion issues, which is why they are doing the fair use policy now in my opinion. I would recommend them only if it is you only option.
@CypressSparrowHomestead
@CypressSparrowHomestead Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the insightful comment! Yes I did see about the fair use policy. I will be curious as to how much it slows down once you a user hits the 1 TB. For us where we live Verizon does not get reception for LTE (I'm not sure about 5G) unfortunately. You are right though, where we live Starlink is becoming the major internet provider which I'm sure will have a speed impact. Cheers!

Like so many things, it is worth it in some use cases and not others. Wouldn't be worth it for me, I have other, cheaper, and potentially faster options if I want to spend the money. But I could definitely see getting it if I did not have those options and especially if I could get it cheaper somehow. Not interested in setting it up on my roof, too windy here. Plus, outages are a no-go for me since I work online. Better to have other, redundant connections for a total of less money (which is what I am able to do).

It took me 2 years to finally get my Starlink system. It was fairly easy to setup, but there are many shortfalls on the design. There is no light to let you know if the dish has power or is working at all. The Starlink router only has a single pin light on the bottom that only shows if it has power and that is it. So after only 4 months my Starlink system went dead and would not come back online. It took over 2 weeks to get a replacement and after putting in a replacement, it ended up being a bad 150ft Starlink connection. so now I have to wait 2 more weeks to get the new cable. So it seems they have a supply chain issue that takes weeks to fulfill. Then to top it off, they have zero customer service contact for their customers. It is all via a support ticket. At this rate, I do not see Starlink lasting long enough to beat off any new competition that is already coming. I know I am not impressed at all.

Obviously totally contention based speeds. Might be interested if they guaranteed 300Mbps download and at least 100Mbps UPLOAD for those prices (no real reason it can't be DSL and give equal upload). Currently stuck on 76Mbps download and about 15Mbps upload, unlimited data, via FTTC. Could be waiting years here in the UK countryside for 1Gbps FTTP :(

Your EOL point is not in the same state? Why are you testing from WI all the way over in IL? That's not going to give you consistant numbers because you're dealing with internet traffic from tons of other people. Speedtest allows you to use a testing site closer to you. Those results should be much more reliable.

you especialy in 5:40 are comparing aplles to oranges and ist a dead giveaway that you dont udterstad how things work OR PURPSLY ommiting stuff.Also when something is just STARTED you cnat expect to be immedietly cheap bcs if it would then TEHY WOULD GO BANCRUPT.Thats why EVERY SINGLE NEW THING that comes to market has high priece (EVEN THOU TEHY THEMSELF ADMITED THEY LOOSING MONEY ON THIS STUFF I THINK ESPECIALY DUE TO LOWER PRICE THAN EXPECTED). I NEVER SAW that some big thing came to market and be cheap.It was alwasy EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and ALWAYS had to pass atleast minimum 5-6 somethimes even 10 YEARS just for something to get bit or drasticaly CHEAPER.... When i personaly heard/saw the pricig i myself THOUGHT THAT ITS WAY TO CHEAP (considering they just went/got ito on the market).People NEGLECT AND FORGET that ONE OF THE BIG REASONS WHY stuff at beggining is more expensive is not only to earn from premium and from brand new tag status BUT also the reason why ist expensive at beggining is to TRY nad quicly REPAY/RETURN the borrowed/spent money that went into that project form paying teh people who designed,made,prototyped,reaserached it BUT also to have a head start and additional money to eigehr expand teh team or to fasten the upgrade/develompent process of that thing so to keep updated/evolved all the time and that costs ALOT OF MONEY AS A WHOLE.

I’m not quite sure what you mean comparing apples to oranges or omitting information. Just throwing out an example of another large internet company that might be an option for some people. In that sense, Starlink is not cheap or more accurately, less expensive. I understand they required a huge upfront capital to create the products, infrastructure, software etc. I don’t think I’m wrong in hoping the price decreases over time as more users adopt Starlink and the company lowers operating costs. Anyway thanks for taking the time to watch, cheers 😊
