You should do an update every month to let us see how the box is holding up and what new tools you have added since the last video. You seem like the kind of person who buys the tools he needs and not go overboard. Great video as always and keep up the great work. Your lucky to have the Rustbelt Mechanic and Capt. Ron advising you on what you need and giving you tools, not too many people go out of their ways to help others these days. Please let us know what jobs you are doing as well. Good luck and be safe

a few things ive learned after being a offroad equip tech for 3 years > a good screwdriver set matters >get a super long handle 1/2 ratchet for anything you would need a standard length breaker bar for >dont buy harbor freight pry bars or anything that could be potentially dangerous from HF lol (had one explode on me) >dont cheap out on drills or impacts go milwaukee >get decent pliers and channel locks mind you over half of my box is HF have learned the hard way what stuff from there is actually decent quality great video and will have to invest in that matco chisel set ! didnt know that existed

Also some advice, tool carts are wonderful. I primarily work out of my cart, and my box get used more for a work surface and extra storage. It saves a lot of time putting your most used tools in your cart and leaving them there. Now my cart is about 3/4 the size of my Mac tech series 56” box. And I have all my metric sockets, my ratchets, metric wrenches, pliers screw drivers my electrical diagnostic tools, torque wrench, hammers pry bars most of what you would generally use on a day to day basis. Makes it much easier leaving tools on my cart and just wheeling that around instead of constantly running back and forth or having to take the time to grab the tools from the box load them in the cart, then unload back to your box when finished. Just some food for thought.

Not sure if you have a Cornwell truck, but Milwaukee just released new locking pliers. Best ones I’ve used yet. Zero issues. You can probably find them at Lowe’s as well relatively decent pricing.

It's cool to have a neat looking toolbox but, efficiency is important. You put your tools in a chest that won't move and, have an empty roll cart. Given the amount of tools you have, you could have went with a 7 drawer/flip top (or sliding top) roll cart. It would have plenty of room for growth still too. Then you would have everything mobile and ready to go. When you outgrow it, or start acquiring more specific tools you actually use for your cart, THEN you get a toolbox for your overflow. You're gonna be doing a lot of walking to that box. Even if you put what you think you need in the cart each time, you're gonna forget things or realise you need more tools.

@schigara5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The more tools the better but the money is made in diagnostics, not wrench turning. Next to the meter, leads and bi-direction scan tool, invest in a scope and learn how to use it.

A month in , and you think he needs diagnostic equipment ? Way to set a guy up for failure. So in another month when he can't produce , or doesn't hack it he's stuck with equipment, and bill for equipment that he isn't even qualified to use ....real genius advice bro.

@@jacksonstorm6395 Never buy what you cant afford. All i mean is that the size of that box is not ideal for that first month in like ur talking about. Regardless he needs tools not a giant box with a hutch his first month on the job lol decent meter leads test light scan tool all under $200

@@brennansulton340 he needs a 7 drawer cart , not that box. Clearly he's not the brightest guy. I don't know what you call a decent meter , or a scan tool , but you aren't getting them for 200 bucks. So I’m a flat rate tech at a Toyota dealer in the East. It wasn’t long ago that I was in your shoes. You have a good starting set up so far. Don’t be afraid to go onto the tool trucks and purchase some stuff from them. I got really good deals from them going through high school and when going into the actual field. For wrenches start looking into the long handle gear wrench closed ended wrenches they’re great for brakes and alignments. Also look into Astro brake service kit it has right and left handed threads for on and off brand calipers. Get a good pick set from Cornwell or Matco. Also lastly get yourself a good set of pry bars. They come in handy all the time. Don’t worry about a bunch of the special service tools you can buy off of the trucks. Just focus on what you need in that moment. Make yourself a list and eventually start looking into buying that stuff. Take care
