my aunt had about a 4 acre spread in what was then rural NJ, I spent many summers in the 70s bumping along those rough fields cutting the "grass", never stalled, ran for years, when the deck rusted my cousin took it to his welding class and it got some new sheet metal, what a great tractor! Heck oil filters were optional in cars until the 50s.

Newer style coil on it as well. Does it still have points under the cover? or is it blocked off and have the solid state magnetic pickup and tone ring under the flywheel like the P218G? Onan had a bunch of funky experimental engines. The carb on my P216G has no adjustments other than the idle screw and it has an accelerator pump. My owners manual that came with the machine, shows an idle mixture screw but mine has is blocked off with a small welch plug. I downloaded parts manuals for the engine straight from Onans site and it shows an idle mixture screw as well. Engine runs rich at idle and a bit rich when throttling up and will not idle down below 1000 rpm without fouling plugs.

It is a replacement coil. You cant get the early style with screw in plug wires anymore. The P series Onans came out in late 1986 for the 87 model year. About 8 years newer than this tractor. Its a B48M with DD13 carb and points like the rest of B48M Onans but with the exception of no oil filter
