@@shesamadgardener I know! And the thrifted haul I got two weeks ago: you would have been so proud. TWO plant stands - 7.99 each and one needed a bowl so I got a 1.99 frosted punch bowl. The lady at the counter said “you did good! They had plant stands??” Guaranteed those stands would have been $15-35. And I found a beat up side table no one wanted in the parking lot of my pharmacy. My son put it into the truck and I have it in my garage for my winter project! I would have never thought of this stuff had I not watched you do the upgrading of all the unwanted stuff you find. THANK YOU!!!

We got rain 🎉 Sunday! Not a lot but boy it was nice to see and smell. Cooled way down, too. Back to misery the next day but was a welcome relief while it lasted. I love how you garden with no gloves and no shoes. Me, too. Gotta feel the dirt. 😃 Not much work in the garden because of the heat. Right now just watering and trying to keep stuff alive. Looks like after Friday, we might get a nice break. I’m ready!

The front with coleus and pumpkins so cute and fun for Fall!!! We are getting concrete done for our driveway and sidewalks widened to 4ft for sidewalks, very exciting so probably instead of Fall planting just concentrating on getting my potted perennials in the ground and clean up. I have really struggled to not go buy more plants lol!

Rain...ha, ha, ha ,ha, what's that? We haven't had a drop at our house since July 1st. I am on my way out the door to visit some of our local nurseries to see what they have on sale. I have so many bare spots in our gardens and need to replenish them. Definitely looking for perennials.

Desperately hoping for the rain. I have some clearing out to do. These past two months did my stuff in. (Didn’t help that I thought my watering was enough..until everything was soooo stressed out and I finally reworked our sprinkler system program) There are about 6-7 holly bush roots/stumps I’m going to remove. A side garden of herbs & plants for pollinators was ruined, it looks awful. If the cooler (80s) temps will be the majority of the norm, I’ll relocate the surviving plants if possible. The valiant dead: into compost tea with other things. I’ve bought seeds for an expanded wildflower bed I’m going to set up in the backyard. And once I can enjoy being outdoors, work on the ‘pondless’ basin for my solar fountain.

Love the purple coleus. I'm in 7a Washington DC. We had gorgeous fall like weather last week but now are in a heat wave with no rain. I've been taking cuttings from my coleus. Want to start adding fall color to my containers but will probably wait a few more weeks. They are still looking good but want to transition them. Thanks for the tips about corms.

It's always amazing when digging to divide, how many more plants you end up with and what to do with them. I have some daffodils that have been in the same spot for, I'm guessing, maybe 20 years. Systematically, I'm digging them up, but there's no way I can replant close to a 5 gallon bucket of daffodils. Even if I only keep the "bigger" ones. I just restarted with liatris last year so I'll have to keep an eye on them. My fall gardening, here in zone 7, is moving a lot of plants more than planting a lot of plants. We've decided my husband is going to put in a garden train (that's what happens when the hubby retires 😅), but I told him the impact on my plants needs to be minimal. So far, so good. But of course, he can no longer give me "looks" when I go plant shopping. Win, win!!😂

It's Sept 22nd here in zone 10. The stems are still green. Are we supposed to do this after the stems turn brown so that all the energy goes into the corms?
@shesamadgardener
@shesamadgardener 3 ай бұрын
Yep you can can wait until they are dormant if you want but definitely get them transplanted 6-8 weeks before your first frost.

Amanda, it's your garden. But if I were you living in a hot, dry climate, I wouldn't be removing clay. It holds water and nutrients better than any other soil type. You'd be able to reduce your watering and fertilizing. Spider mites may not be as bad in a wetter environment. Seems worth doing a trial bed to test these ideas. I live in clay soil with high humidity and plentiful rain in FL 9a.
@shesamadgardener
@shesamadgardener Жыл бұрын
My whole lot is clay, so the handfuls I remove are so inconsequential that it won’t make an overall difference to my moisture retention.
