I planted 75 tulip bulbs last fall. After they bloomed and died back somewhat, I needed to dig them up so I could move them. I never expected them to divide so aggressively. I now have over 400 bulbs to plant this fall. Many won't bloom next spring, of course, but I'm going to have to expand my beds, which gives me an excuse to dig up more of the lawn.

Maybe you could think about planting your liatris final succession planting in bulb bins - that way they'd be easy to lift and you could store them so you'd always have a succession.

Things I love about this video: a rolling camera capturing some moments that slip by too fast; a boy and his mom, digging in the dirt; seeing you give him your ear, and some shoulder to shoulder time. There are more things I love too, like seeing your ground is not perfect, and I can feel good knowing you garden like I do. I love all your videos about the pretty flowers and how awesome you are doing. I could go on and on, but, I have a 5 year old son whom I enjoy having with me during my tasks, just to hear him talk. So, this video was just a feel good video! ☺️ Thanks for the Momma moments too!

Eavesdropping on your conversation with Axel reminds me of my nephew's three boys. They used to live two blocks from me and would often stop on their evening walks. They moved about five miles from me so they're still close. They have a small pond in their back yard so I gave them my Pawley's Island rope hammock because even in my back yard I was too embarrassed when I'd bottom out. I love when my niece-in-law posts to FB her conversations with the boys. Today was a full day of gardening. It's starting to look really good, if I say so myself. 😆 Following Garden Answer Laura's program of zoning out my yard for a weeding schedule I decided Mondays would be for my late sister, Marcia's, garden. It looks glorious! The pink blooms of the 'Prairie Fire' crabapple (her birthday is in late May) against the "carpet" of white wind anemones is striking. Even the postal carrier stopped to admire them. He came back later with a package (not for me) and commented on my tulips that are so brilliant. Here in 4b, we hit close to 80 degrees. We needed that rain cloud that was affecting Axel's hat hair. I chased the hose around all day and the soil was bone dry when I planted a Spanish lavender plant next to the driveway. My peonies are getting ready to pop! Let the show begin. ('Paula Faye', 'Gay Paree', 'Do Tell' and another variety whose name escapes me. A couple unknown varieties that came with the house 30 years ago are looking better than ever. I guess our cooler than normal spring appealed to them.)

My Liatris is already sprouting this year 😳. I only have a small number. So I collected seeds last. They have spent time in the freezer, then planted in a tray and held in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. Now they are out and on the heat mat. I hope it works because there are over 100 seeds in there! I can't wait to see how yours do from this planting.

I have already planted my Liathris. ( but off course not as many as you have planted.) I ve read, if the drainage is good (gravel, sand inderneath the foot of the scorn) ( wet winters ...cause rotting) and if it not too cold they might survive and become bigger and better ... I hope for you that you will have an abundance of flowers to harvest. All the best. The place where you have planted the tulips ...planti g marygold is very good for the soil and for the new bulbs that you might plant there in fall. Greetings Marcus

succession planting for long term can be done by planting some in shadier spot. I have garden on a slope and the bottom is shaded by trees, top is on full sun. Few meters can make a big difference.

I bought some Benary Giants Zinnia starts from my nursery and planted them out beginning of May and they fried. They were outside so I figured they would be acclimated. It wasn’t even that hot here yet, around 70’s during the day and upper 40’s/low 50’s at night. I’m thinking of just direct seeding them and hope for the best.

I searched everywhere around here this Spring., I’m in Canada (still zone 4b) and lockdowns are continuing forever... and can’t find any liatris ☹️ I will have to order some for next year... I’m sure they will be beautiful. I already started direct seeding., have lots popping up already. Sure wish I could show you pictures. I have added soooo many gardens. Not nearly as much space as you and much more compacted. But I am going for the packed full to the brim look. And The more, the merrier I will be. 😋 This will be my test year to see what works for me. Not expecting anything this year, other than to create some beautiful bouquets for myself😁, multiply my plants and collect seeds for next year from my favs. Sending happy gardening wishes from this 🇨🇦Flower Friend. 🙏🏻
