Have you heard of cooking in a pit all day, like a pig roast? You put coals underground, wrap your roast in foil and bury it all day. If ground is frozen, then last day of camping, dig out thawed dirt underneath where your fire was. Could be a fun challenge?

An idea for you. Replace the rope on your sled with a 6 ft 1 1/2 “ wood dowel. Attach clips to each end for quick disconnect to your sled and to a belt on your waist. This lets you walk without having to hold your sled & stops the sled from running into you on hills.

I have done winter camping but not as crazy as you. I was with my dad at our hunt camp in the winter...was in the late 90s, dad had two snowmobiles and we drove in 35 kms from Morin village which is near Shining Tree. We were there in February and one morning it was -45...the trees were cracking like crazy when I was sitting in the outhouse. I dont mind the winter camping with a nice camp and wood stove. The best meal I ever cooked was homemade soup simmering on the wood stove most of the day. We all enjoyed a cold beer and bowls of hot soup.
@HurlgoatHiker6 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a lot of fun! I love the sound of the trees cracking, I often wonder how many people even know that trees make that sound when it's so cold, you have to be amongst the trees to hear and experience that in bitter cold temperatures. Soup on a cold day like that is probably the best meal one could have. Cheers and Happy Camping.
