Bottom line, life as a helicopter pilot, like anything else in life, has it's good parts and ugly parts. No matter what vocation you choose, no matter what path in life you decide to commit to, there are going to be sacrifices you'll have to make. There will always be the unpleasant aspects to every job and every walk in life. Everything comes with a cost. Is paying the price and going through all the troubles and hardships associated with that life path worth it? Only you, the individual, can know that.

Bad part is you sneeze and end up upside down or crashing. 😂 U have to constantly stay on the controls and make small tiny adjustments nonstop. It’s a blast flying them but also super scariest to fly.

I like how the "worst part" about being a heli pilot still is still not that bad 😎 totally agree it can be a pain for relationships though Helicopter flying might make us move, but we return home every night- fixed wing doesn't always make you move all over, but your family doesn't see you every night 💔

I’ve found that like working on a commercial boat, a pilot gets to prove your school teacher’s wrong in that you are getting paid to stare out of the window for hours, boring as it sometimes can be!

Bro thanks for your videos. It helps a lot. Is any way that you can do a video talking about age? I am 40 years old thinking in start my helicopter pilot training, but my age is a huge concern for me… Thanks bro!

Thanks for the info! Very solid advise. They always say never to be a pilot for the money. But the moving is a major factor too! How difficult is it, as a pilot, to convince mechanics to look at or fix something that you think may need attention? I’ve seen a lot of mechanics shrug off the concerns of a pilot, which is strange to me because sometimes, this could easily lead to an accident. (For example, loose v-belts or a vibration in the pedals.) Does the relationship between a pilot and the mechanic ever get easier?

Flying privately the worst part is finding a place to rent (at least nowadays, back in '03 when I got licensed it was easy). Flying commercially the worst part is dealing with the fact that all the entry level jobs I'm qualified for are on the other side of the country and pay $12 bucks an hour.

Guess I'm an odd ball. I haven't moved once since I started flying back in 2003. I'm sure it helps living in the northeast where there are an abundance of helicopter jobs.

I'd say the worst part is bridging the gap between the license req's and enough hours to actually get a job flying when you aren't a millionaire.

I'd say the worst is the cost. But I don't want to move at all, ever. Ever again, anyway. I'm a homebody totally now, so bump this 100%. I'll stick with being a quadcopter pilot. I can hold my vehicle in one hand and store it in a box.

nice vid one tip though that would make this vid 2x as good - what should we expect to be paid when starting, there's no shame in low pay but I want real numbers and I think others would like to hear that

@flycow69

I hate to tell you something it’s easier in helicopter after engine out because helicopter pilots always practice autorotations if you know what autorotations mean. Being a fix wing Pilot you need a minimum of 1000 feet to land engine out not in a helicopter on the top of that you can fly a helicopter with zero airspeed try that in an airplane.
@incognito8448
@incognito8448 6 ай бұрын
how many engine outs in a helicopter allow you autrotations ? what is the most common engine out in a helicopter? rotor damage is the most common cause of helicopter crashes ... usually caused by engine damages ... usually like broke shafts /couplings from sudden engine seizes
@thomaswilson2030
@thomaswilson2030 24 күн бұрын
@@incognito8448if your engine seizes, there’s a clutch mechanism that separates the engine from the drive shafts which allow the rotors to turn freely. I’d say that most crashes are related to pilot error rather than power plant failures.

Yes to get experience and time unfortunately moving alot,hard to have steady anything, as u said, which is nice if u like nomad kind of life,u see lots of different places , and meet lots of people. One other thing not so great, COST get licenses, renting helicopter it is insanely expensive. Im curious u flew by Stewart and had a lot of hours,and familiar with area, is there a reason u didnt try Flynyon?Or rent etc just to much ? Beautiful sunset

Hey Devin! I was wondering, given that you're a CFI and there is nobody there in the cockpit with you, do you still have to pay to take the Cabri out on your own like that, or do the school let you take it out whenever? I am currently doing my hour building in the UK, 129 hours at present and need 155 to do my CPL. I've heard that your hour building phase is the only time in your career that you will ever get to fly for yourself! :) I imagine paying a self fly hire rate once you're commercially qualified would be a pretty bitter pill to swallow given the cost of training to get to that point!
@toasty4634
@toasty4634 2 жыл бұрын
Well if it's anything like fixed wing, no you don't get to go whenever. Both planes and helis are VERY expensive even just to fly around, and on average are at least $170 plus per flight hour for renting. However, if there's a reason for a flight even if someone wants their aircraft transported across the country you can take that opportunity to fly.

Absolutely 💯 correct in regards to moving. Drove from Florida to Oregon to earn my CFI ticket 🎟. Couple of tour jobs in SC. Most likely the Gulf is next 🙂 #SkyBaum

It must be pretty simple to become a helicopter pilot if you can instruct when you’re finished. Just like the scuba industry
@TheCablebill
@TheCablebill 2 жыл бұрын
Becoming an instructor requires multiple certifications beyond the basic license to fly a helicopter. Beyond the basic pilot license, any CFI (a separate certificate) also has a commercial ticket with many hours logged. Likely IFR qualified and fixed wing too but that is optional - though maybe not to get hired. Aviation is not simple, amd helicopters are especially complex aircraft.
