The science behind this is all kinds of crazy good! As an older adult (65) I’ve found my muscles can adapt to pretty much anything but it’s the joints (especially any areas of old injury) that can flare up trouble again with heavier loads. I bought a cheap pair of self adjusting BFR bands first and stuck with them for a year to see if I found any benefit. Just like Mike, I absolutely did! Then, since I was a very good girl, “Santa” gifted me with a set of KAATSU Bands. Yes, it’s an investment, and Yes, they and I am worth it. When I can invest in my fitness and my health span as I age, it always pays off.

Agree about bfr... I'm certified with this system, it's the most reasonably priced... I use them intermittently... & with a few clients... the benefit is that with much less resistance you get the same or more metabolic responses.... especially good for older people that can't go heavy do to joint issues, pre and post surgery.... but there are some precautions... which you can learn about if you decide to use them... they also have a phone app that helps to use them properly... personally, I find the arms very challenging... vs the legs are tolerable.....

I use pneumatic BRF bands. I hit the wall on 30% of max with not that many reps. Science tells that it has effect since you max out. So I do both BRF and normal interchanging .I also forget the leg bands but I'll get into it with DL and squats. Pneumatic is much easier to use to give full occlusion . They recommend no more than 10 minutes at the time. One caution is rhabdomyolysis (potentially deadly) - but it is rare.However I would not overdo BFR - and I personally, respect the 10 minutes . Also I don't use more than one band type at the time -Never legs + arms simultaneously . I don't use bands every time I exercise . I recommend pneumatic bands for more control. There is a gauge to show pressure and you'll bet exactly same pressure left and right. My guess would be that it works a bit like HIIT so it is time efficient as well as less stressful for body.

After weight lifting I eat less junk (and I already ate very little), because I like seeing my abs becoming bigger and seeing my body get really nice and lean, and eating poorly would just make that progress slower! 100%. I’m the same age and have been training with Kaatsu for over 7 years. It is my go to method as it became rather risky to lift heavy. It is especially beneficial for people who have cardiovascular issues as they shouldn’t be doing high intensity training. There are recent studies supporting this. However, not everyone likes it as it can be unpleasant when you hit high lactate level. Best to go easy at the start and gradually increase duration and pressure over time. Due to the light loads it is very safe. All the best!

Dont drop sets accomplish the same thing...I get monster pumps using drops sets..(feeder workout)
@2old4allthis
@2old4allthis Жыл бұрын
I do both. Yes, drop sets provide the same benefits while also causing muscle damage and mechanical tension. The main advantage to BFR is that, since it only causes metabolic stress, you can do the exercises much more frequently without causing joint pain. I superset incline rows and presses (30 presses immediately to 30 rows, rest 30 seconds, 15 presses immediately to 15 rows, rest 30 seconds, 15 presses immediately to 15 rows, rest 30 seconds, 15 presses immediately to 15 rows). I follow this with triceps/curls in the same pattern. I finish with lateral raises and OHP, or pullovers and OHP. I can do all of this in 16-18 minutes. These are all done with weights that are 20-40% of my estimated 1 RM. I think drop sets are superior, but you just can't do them as frequently or hit as many muscle groups as often. BFR is the perfect routine for off days from drop sets. BTW, you definitely don't have to superset your BFR sessions, I just find it very beneficial and time efficient.

I’m not sure about this training. I think it’s bad for nerves. Nerves need blood flow and restrictions to them can cause problems. I noticed in my hands. But he never blamed the bands for it, but I felt they were to blame because I felt it too.

Possibly the cure for small calves!
@trevorrisley5419
@trevorrisley5419 Жыл бұрын
They truly are! You can use BFR with calves five days a week, but make sure you’re also putting your tibialis anteriors under load, too. What I love to do is put my feet through the handles of kettlebells and work all articulations under load such as: dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion, eversion, and I also do clockwise and counterclockwise 360s. Obviously, to properly load the gastroc and the soleus you would take the kettlebell off your feet. All of the aforementioned movements are perfect for your “tib ants” and all of your deep/intrinsic calf muscles. Your lower legs will blow up with that protocol. Even if you were birthed with sticks. Just don’t forget that despite wanting to isolate your lower leg, you would still keep the occlusion bands at the top of the thighs. I hope this information finds you well, Garrett. 🙏🏻
