Fascinating. I'm nearly 62 and I just started using this method. What an incredible work out is all I can say. Thank you both.

typical venal pressure is around 10mmHg, so not surprised that the working range is so wide. You have to be higher than that 10, but lower than your diastolic arterial pressure (e.g. 80mmHG) to completely block of venous return, but leave arterial flow intact. So using a simple elastic band (e.g. for taking blood samples) and making sure you still feel as distal pulse should get nearly the same effect as a pressure cuff with fancy doppler Ultrasound.

Another rehab technique is to train the non-injured bicep and include the eccentric phase of the curls.

This seems similar to my discovery that I call Ghost Reps. As a guitar player, I use an adjustable hand grip device to squeeze, and strengthen my grip, adjusted to the hardest resistance that I can still do 100 reps per set (with my left hand). I am right-handed, so I let my left hand determine it's max, so I do not overtrain and become lopsided. After 100 reps in my left hand, then I simply put down the hand grip device and count out another 100 reps with no resistance, nothing in my hand, but I repeat the motion quickly. 100 Ghost Reps take less than a minute. If I can do 100 easy, then I go to 200 total, if that is not too much, I take it to 300 total. I do the Ghost Reps to exhaustion. The ghost reps allow me to pump more blood into my forearms, it feels like my forearms are bulging to nearly bursting from the increased blood flow, by the time I get to my max ghost reps, take it to exhaustion. Then do the same amount with my right hand. If I have time, I will repeat every hour, until my left hand cannot do the max reps of the day any more that day, or if I feel any joint pain I will stop for the day. This only takes 5 minutes per hand, then try again an hour later. One tip for buying a hand grip device, they are inexpensive, so quality and resistance can vary. Go to the store and try out one, so that you actually can do 100 reps with your left hand, your least favored hand. These devices are usually way to strong if not adjustable, and still can be too strong for your left hand even if it is adjustable. Try out about 10 of them and you will likely find one with less resistance that your left hand can do 100 reps with. Or buy the weakest one and work your way up by doing less than 100 reps with resistance. The Ghost Reps should still be a quick 100 reps or more with no device, but the device has to get the blood flow primed before the Ghost Reps are possible. If you don't prime your reps with the device first, you will stop the Ghost Reps from boredom before you feel the bulging forearm of steel.
