Welcome to our channel! This Log Cabin Project is a dream that we have had for several years that we finally decided to make a reality. Our goal is to build a tiny log cabin from scratch using as much material from our land as possible. We are building it entirely using hand tools (no chainsaw!). This cabin will function fully off-grid and will be only accessible by foot. Subscribe to follow our journey!
It has been 1 year since we raised the first log! This video is a condensed version of all the progress we have made thus far. We start with digging holes for the foundation, then pouring concrete footings, splitting and installing the sill log, notching and installing 30 floor joists, raising the walls, and installing the door and window frames.

You two, are absolutely amazing. Young people, and a couple to boot, knowing how to use "ancient" tools (sic) and masterfully building a beautiful home. I am utterly impressed and have total admiration for you both.

If I was a younger man, I'd be jealous, but since I'm not, I'll just say how amazed I am at the determination and devotion to your build you focus your attention on. Beautifully done and I have no doubt it will be in your minds for many years to come. Completing it isn't the keyword here, it's continuing thru the final board, hand cut and fit as all of them thus far. Keep the dream alive and life will be never forgotten in this venture, stay safe and love it forever !!

Thanks Barton! You said it perfectly. We're loving and cherishing every single step of the process. Seeing the finished cabin will just be the cherry on top of the cake.

Well well, I read lots of comments sent your way and everything I want to say to the two of you is there and said many times but what I like to add is congratulations to both of you for choosing each other as a partner and further more wishing you a long life together and if you ever split apart it would really break my heart.

It's funny watching you guys work, all the little tips and tricks I'm yelling at my phone to help. Like when you're notching out your logs. And you're using a 2 inch chisel to chip away at the scrap. Just turn your claw hammer around and hit the scrap it will pop right out. Then use the chisel to clean up and smooth out. However you got it done and good for you.

Your working together on your project has reminded me of when my father built our house. We had to live in the basement through the winter while the upstairs was finished. I remember helping with the anchors cementing them. Then hammering nails to help out.

This build is incredible. I believe my favorite part would have to be when the two of you were installing the door frame, that one side being a tight fit so you both hung from the top to set it in place, as your feet danced in the air with your happy laughter. Thank you.

Forgot how much work you put into everything at the beginning. It was also interesting to see how your notching skills progressed! Great chronology of the project, so far. You’re both doing a terrific job. P.S. just couldn’t help but notice how skinny your arms were at the beginning, compared to how much more strength you seem to have now! Cabin building as body building!
Жыл бұрын
Thank you Dennis! Yes looking back at our first few notches, it's very clear we had no idea what we were doing haha. Comparing them to our notches now, it's like night and day. And we agree about our muscles! It's been so great to have our own home gym (literally!)

concrete in tubes :tip: use a bigger stick and where your sticking the rebar (up&down motion will bring any trapped air up to the surface)🙂or if you don't like that idea tip on the form column will also do the same.🙂Why you ask, because trapped air in concrete WILL crack and break-up the footing when it FREEZES.
Жыл бұрын
We didn't show any clips of it in this video, but we were rodding the concrete as we poured it in. My days as a civil engineering student came in handy! I learned all about how to pour concrete and how to avoud cracking from freeze-thaw :). Thanks for looking out for us!

In CANADA there are four things available in plenty. Firstly Jungle, that is Forest, secondly, Drinking water lakes, Thirdly Freezing Cold weather of - 20 to - 35 degree Centrigate cold temperature and the Fourth point is Land. Canad is the second largest land based Country. So cutting & felling Trees is no big deal and building wooden log cabins.
