Living Big In A Tiny House

Living Big In A Tiny House

Күн бұрын

If you’ve ever worried that you wouldn’t be able to produce enough power when off the grid in a tiny house on wheels, this house may be the one to reassure you! I never thought that we would see a tiny house which has quite so many solar panels on the roof. Amazingly, this tiny house has a 4kw solar array with 36kw of lead acid battery storage, allowing the family to power not just their home (including all the modern appliances) but also a tiny house building workshop!
Become a Living Big Patron and help us to create more videos: / livingbig
The home was constructed as a DIY build by Glade and Cloe, with the vast majority of all the materials being found in the hard rubbish. With all the labour done by the couple, and with the building materials mostly up-cycled and recycled, the home was constructed for an amazing price of only AU$10,000!

Sitting on 12 acres just outside of Melbourne, Australia the off-the-grid tiny house is an ideal home for his young family. Glade has started his own tiny house construction business which operates from his property, allowing him to spend time at home with his family. Their home is packed full of clever design ideas and is definitely one to check out. I hope you enjoy the video tour of this stunning off the grid tiny house.

Bryce, you will go down in history as the man who changed the world lol. People just want family close around them and your tiny house crusade is making it happen. That solar array, holy cow, that was amazing. There's a lot of talk in the media about how it's not possible to run on renewables but if everyone took control of their own personal needs then I think it would work in large part. Big energy company's are probably a little bit scared.

I never thought I was the tiny home type, but as I watch more and more of these tours I'm warming to the idea. I've always envisioned myself buying some land and building a larger (about 2500-3000 sq-ft) off-grid home because I have a large family and want them to be able to visit, but tiny living is starting to look good to me. The simplicity and low cost nature of it are very appealing. I'd just have to figure out how to accommodate guests.

I would love to live a simple life like this... My husband (head of M&A in a tax registered, multi billion company) leaves the house at 8am and doesn’t return until 8:30 / 9pm. The kids basically only see him on the weekends and he’s always exhausted and irritated by work and weekend calls with share holders - the whole lot... It’s crazy. At some point money doesn’t improve your quality of life - it just enslaves you to work for itself. No meaning attached.

One of the best tiny houses I have ever seen. The house looked lived in with kids and made sense in its construction. The family radiated joy and healing! They were so chilled out. Their home is similar to way earlier homes were built minus the solar, maybe. I say maybe because historians never considered solar as a possible source of energy when I was at university. Their monthly bills are about 15 dollars! Amazing!

@Ryan Anderson I call *inspirators* those who propose ideas and lifestyles to the world because they've worked with them and truly believe they benefit society / individuals, without a specific intention to persuade and without personal gain or status being the prime motive - which is what usually defines so-called influencers. I've looked around California but its too expensive even in the rural areas with green trees. Washington is nice because of the pacific northwest climate, there are some nice land that's affordable there. New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado also has nice cheap land.

@@MetalGearMk3 I would say Oregon and Washington are what I'm going for. I'd like to live in a wooded area while staying West. If I was going with a landlocked state I'm interested in most of the northwest so I'm not thinking of one in particular, my oddball state would be Arizona though.

So this family is enjoying each other by living "in a tiny" home but I don't think they lost ANYTHING; they discovered what it is to be a "close-knit family. They didn't have to compromise or sacrifice one thing because they built this home with love and appreciation for each other! He did an amazing job on this house: it's built on a sensible budget, they have functionality, and everything is laid out nicely. Another thing, they are both loving and living their lives, it appears, with complete contentment. I love the kitchen, the stairs, the dining area and the wood on the inside!!! Maybe a few more Windows , but this is their home & it was built to meet their needs and at the most sensible price ever!! Great job!!!!!

Here in Germany and in the area where I live people are suffering badly from the catastrophic floods caused by consistant torrential rainfall and resulting damaged damms and floods. I wish people didn't have to have such an existential disaster to realise that our current Lifestyle is not of real value. Huge hard earned expensive SUV cars destroyed!! And in the midst of it all, we have people from all over, Spain, Denmark, locals Germans, immigrants all helping and showing what is REALLY valuable in life. We are destroying our earth and ourselves by being slaves to marketing strategies trying to convince us to buy stuff we don't need. I hope we can make a change before it's definitely too late. @@mikebolton2388 He said around 10k not counting the solar array....and making use mostly in up cycled and recycled materials, and doing 100% of the labor himself so the structure itself for 10k would be very doable...He said he built the house 2 1/2 years ago ...He said the solar array and water systems had been in use for lil over 4yrs...most likely or at least partially powering the other house he stated(and briefly showed) also sits on the property. The water system/catch tank sits beside the other structure which was shown and their water was pumped to the tiny house from there. The solar array he has would no doubt be an investment but he clearly stated the 10k build price did not include the array...The tiny structure in itself, considering he done all the labor himself, including the welding and using almost entirely recycled and scavenged materials would certainly not be "way beyond 10k"

so so sick of people acting like a few panels of solar is enough to live on! This many panels is 100% required of you want to run A.C. year round! Every bit of it! Heat and dehumidifcation in the winter require juice! Clouds reduce your solar intake to 10% on some winter days. I bet you there are still times of the year where they need to watch the usage!

Spiegelvoorelkaar Also, most of the videos don’t include the cost of land. Most of the tiny house dwellers live on someone else’s land; in this video the couple already owned the land. Land cost, of course, drives the cost of everything else. In northwestern Iowa you can still find houses for under 100k $, but the median house cost over $800k in Orange County, California where the vast majority of the population cannot afford to buy a home. And even tiny homes would be hugely expensive in the OC because of the land cost. We need systemic solutions for housing costs around the world. It’s all well and good for people to find solutions for themselves, but that doesn’t fix the housing crisis on a broad enough scale. Also, I cannot wait for the solar panel skins to become broadly available. It’s possible to make solar panels look like whatever one’s heart desires. Imagine the tiny house in this vid if the solar panels blended into the house and it’s surroundings better.

I LOVE this for a lot of reasons. First of all, all the stuff used in the build that would have otherwise ended up in landfills. The salvaged wood used in the build was just what was needed. It would have been almost criminal to let it go for trash. And all the solar!!!! Sun light is FREE for the taking, other than the cost of the system. And for once, a sensible commitment to ALL KINDS OF PANELS for genuine off grid power usage. All the electricity usage for both domestic and business burns no fuel. And using all the rain run off for water means that they are not a burden on the local wildlife. Humans have a habit of taking everything and being wasteful with precious resources, like water. Often there is nothing left for desperate wildlife. I also love the design here. ALL that storage!!! A whole basement's worth!!! Storage stuck in everywhere!! Love it!!! And sharing your dream; that's so important, letting people know that there are better ways to live and raise children. Mind you, out there you have to be on the look out for death logs ( crocs) and danger noodles (snakes)...and spiders...there's lot and lots of spiders...oh, Sulis Minerva, there's spiders...

@@krewetkaaaa That's obviously not the point. Those panels are a part of the house that they're using to illustrate a certain lifestyle. It's like saying that a house was only $10 because someone already gave them $200,000 in materials, appliances, and labor... Look up the price of a solar panel, and then multiple it by 20.

I feel like that is something that's lost today. As ur kids grow I hope that they can learn from you both and have a trade or survival at most.
