Shenmue is so immersive that I literally feel like I can start playing it at any time any day. I used to think my favorite game of all the was KOTOR but after years of beating it regularly I kind of never wanna play KOTOR again but I could start Shenmue 1 or 2 for a hundredth time right now.

Shenmue was so damn immersive when I played it back in the day; however, it has not aged well at all across the board. It's sad as I remember really being into the game and playing it several hours at a time. It's probably one of the best games of all time that is the hardest to get into now.

I remember reading about Shenmue in magazines in the year 2000 when I was 11. I really wanted to play it but my parents were never going to buy me a dreamcast. Many years passed but I always regretted not getting to play Shenmue. Finally the remastered version came out, and I dove right in. I played through Shenmue I and II and loved them both. After that, I didn’t really have to wait long for Shemue III at all! XD got it right away and enjoyed that one too. Now I’m a commited Shenmue fan, lets hope Shenmue IV doesn’t take too long.

Just want to thank you John for getting me into Shenmue during this whole quarantine. Initially I was reluctant to play them as I had heard about the ending of Shenmue III from another channel but when I saw your Shenmue rocks video I took a chance and I bought the HD port collection. I played both games back to back over the course of 9 days which I've never done with any series but I did with Shenmue because of how immersive and interesting the games were and now after about a 2 month break I'm playing Shenmue III and loving It! Thanks again for inspiring me with your passion for the series!

Great pick on Dragon Quest VIII. I adored Dark Cloud 2, and it made me excited for anything with Level-5's name on it. I remember drooling over Famitsu scans of DQVIII in 2003 and just hoped and hoped that it would live up to the hype I had for it in my mind. It completely exceeded my expectations. It's probably in my top 10 all time, and I do think it's just about a perfect game.

There should be some respect, if it wasn't for us old gamers pumping quarters into arcade machines back in the day, buying Nintendos, Segas, hundreds of cartridges, there wouldn't be an Xbox or PS4. Most game developers these days are some of us old gamers. So, to all you young gamers today..you're welcome🙂

For me basically everything Sega did especially with the Naomi/Dreamcast era. Crazy Taxi is one I have very fond memories of and people don't really talk about that game enough. My friends and I use to try our hardest to beat each others scores, learn the best routes, and how to be the craziest drivers we could. PSO was another one I spend a ton of time with (even after official servers shut down). PSO was the first time I ever enjoyed playing a game online and interacting with other people and the level grinding and hunting for rare items and raising mags was all just so addictive.

@@swedishvintagegamer7189 by what definition? This blew everything out of the water in 1998. If you played this in 1998 and you thought it was crappy then I'm not sure what you were comparing it to. While I am sure there were engine optimization and frame rate issues, it does so much right given the infancy of 3D gaming on consoles. While, it might be the most difficult one to play now as early 3D doesn't age well, it still will go down as quite the masterpiece. Is it the #1 best game ever made? Well, that's debatable.

@@bmshaven Yes I played it in '98 and of course I was blown away and it was a masterpiece. But "hey, listen!" that was 22 years ago. The camera is annoying. Navi is annoying. It's a kids game. Shenmue is my all-time favorite and definitely the game that had the most lasting impression on me. Nothing I've ever played has been that immersive. I love hearing you talk about the game, and I totally agree, the "problems" with the game actually add to it's uniqueness and how memorable it ultimately is. Other notable 10 out of 10's for me are: Lunar: Silver Star Story, KOTOR, FF7, Soul Calibur, Street Fighter 2. Great video Johnny, great to have you back!!

Love the enthusiasm always! Congrats on becoming parents and we’re glad to have you back. You convinced me to replay Link’s Awakening 😂 10/10 retro games for me would be Mega Man X and Tetris

Great video. Really enjoyed it! My 10/10 Retro was Landstalker for Sega Genesis. Spent hours and hours trying to figure that one out.

Shenmue is such a warm blanket game... The story, the music, the characters, the weather system, the living Dobuita setting all still give me the feels. It was literally the first time a game fully transported me into its world. Even the flawless Hyrule of Oot was still a fantasy world built for your adventure. Shenmue was alive and familiar. It felt lived in, like the world existed before you ever turned on your Dreamcast, and will continue to exist even after you finish the story. I'll never bother to argue against the naysayers because it's so obvious they didn't get wrapped up in its world the same way, and that's totally okay.

Links Awakening was my first Zelda game and I love it. I have so many childhood memories attached to the standard game boy version. Playing through the switch remake was a trip down memory lane and I enjoyed every second of it. Links Awakening might have made me fall in love with video games. My first true love!

Great topic and welcome back! My favourite 10/10 retro has got to be Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the SNES. I would probably die from joy if it was remastered or even remade. Come on Capcom!
