Just want to thank you John for getting me into Shenmue during this whole quarantine. Initially I was reluctant to play them as I had heard about the ending of Shenmue III from another channel but when I saw your Shenmue rocks video I took a chance and I bought the HD port collection. I played both games back to back over the course of 9 days which I've never done with any series but I did with Shenmue because of how immersive and interesting the games were and now after about a 2 month break I'm playing Shenmue III and loving It! Thanks again for inspiring me with your passion for the series!

I remember reading about Shenmue in magazines in the year 2000 when I was 11. I really wanted to play it but my parents were never going to buy me a dreamcast. Many years passed but I always regretted not getting to play Shenmue. Finally the remastered version came out, and I dove right in. I played through Shenmue I and II and loved them both. After that, I didn’t really have to wait long for Shemue III at all! XD got it right away and enjoyed that one too. Now I’m a commited Shenmue fan, lets hope Shenmue IV doesn’t take too long.

For me basically everything Sega did especially with the Naomi/Dreamcast era. Crazy Taxi is one I have very fond memories of and people don't really talk about that game enough. My friends and I use to try our hardest to beat each others scores, learn the best routes, and how to be the craziest drivers we could. PSO was another one I spend a ton of time with (even after official servers shut down). PSO was the first time I ever enjoyed playing a game online and interacting with other people and the level grinding and hunting for rare items and raising mags was all just so addictive.

@@swedishvintagegamer7189 by what definition? This blew everything out of the water in 1998. If you played this in 1998 and you thought it was crappy then I'm not sure what you were comparing it to. While I am sure there were engine optimization and frame rate issues, it does so much right given the infancy of 3D gaming on consoles. While, it might be the most difficult one to play now as early 3D doesn't age well, it still will go down as quite the masterpiece. Is it the #1 best game ever made? Well, that's debatable.
@swedishvintagegamer71894 жыл бұрын
@@bmshaven Yes I played it in '98 and of course I was blown away and it was a masterpiece. But "hey, listen!" that was 22 years ago. The camera is annoying. Navi is annoying. It's a kids game. Super Mario Bros. 3 - This is definitely a 10/10 game for me and to this day it's still my favorite game of all time for the nintendo entertainment system. Even to this day it's still my favorite mario game of all time, and this is just a quintessential classic in all the right ways. It also helped that this was one of those games that you pretty much knew that if a household had an nes, they were going to have this game with it. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King - This is hands down my favorite game of all time for the ps2 and it was a game that I magically fell in love with from the moment I played it but surprisingly I haven't beaten it yet. I spent a lot of time trying to craft materials in the alchemy pot and while I was spending a lot of time doing that I just lost track of time and moved onto something else. I need to eventually go back to the game and get it completed, but one of the things I loved about this game is the overworld. I loved the fact that you traverse this gigantic world map with day and night cycles and it really made you feel like you were going on a journey and there have been very few games that have been able to replicate that magic for me. There is so much stuff to do in this game and it's a game that you can never get tired of playing. Ghoul's and Ghosts - A game that I haven't had the opportunity to play yet. I hope to remedy that in the near future since the game is available to play on the sega genesis mini in which i do own one. Samurai Showdown - A game that I've only played in the arcade only a few select times but I haven't really dedicated a lot of time to it in order to fully appreciate it. R-Type - Another game that I only had a brief history with playing it in the arcade but eventually I'm gonna find time to play this game and really enjoy it to its fullest extent. Shenmue - Another game that I haven't had a chance to play yet even though I do own the game. Another game I hope to play when I find the free time to do so. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - I have played and completed the original game boy version of this game and it's definitely one of the more enjoyable zelda games that I've actually played but I have no idea when I'll get around to playing the remake of this game for the switch because I don't even own a switch to begin with. A great selection of games my friend and it's nice to hear how these games have had a positive impact in your life.

When I think of 10/10 games, one that always comes to mind is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. For me it is the “metroidvania” style game perfected. It’s gorgeous, the music is fantastic, and just packed with secrets to discover. It’s a game that I can always sit down and effortlessly lose myself in. Another 10/10 for me is Ultima 7. If I can sort of cheat and consider Ultima 7 part 2 and it together as one huge sprawling experience, it was a formative experience for me in high school. It was unforgivingly non-linear, where you had to talk to towns folk to discover clues for where to go to uncover the next piece of the story and it led you to all the corners of its huge world, but at the same time the game is chock full of hidden secrets and points of interest on the side that often led you to a nice reward, or some piece of lore relating back to previous games in the series. It is a CRPG masterwork.

Great topic and welcome back! My favourite 10/10 retro has got to be Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the SNES. I would probably die from joy if it was remastered or even remade. Come on Capcom!

Love Dragon Quest VIII. One thing about DQ XI that I felt was wasted was the evac spell. The zoom spell would take you somewhere you've already been, even if you are inside.

I feel so happy right now that Johnny's back, I could cry. I think for me, a 10/10 retro game that I'm finally playing on my channel is Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64 and Mischief Makers. Lots of charm to these games even with their flaws that just made my interests in game very broad and always looking for diamonds in the rough or games that take very different approach to game design.

We like the same games, I went from mega man legends on ps1 and the jump to Dreamcast was pretty mind blowing at the time. I was only a kid when I saw it in the year 2000, even at my age I knew it was a masterpiece. Congrats on having a daughter! I wouldn’t know where to start in raising a child lol but I can tell you and Kim will be great parents! You also have a lot of great friends to help you out if you need it, keep on being happy because your helping us all out by spreading the positive vibes! Also, Keep on gaming😎👍

For me there are a lot of masterpieces like smt nocturne, smt strange journey, Fatal frame crimson butterfly, but those imo are magical just the first time you play. But there are few that I can always go and play again from time to time like Parasite eve 2, persona 4, Crono Trigger, silent hill 4 the room.
