Yeah man, when the winds blowing you around like THAT, definitely time to pull over, take it easy, and call dispatch. No load is worth getting into an accident.

I would get off and turn into the wind for a while. Getting there late is better than not getting there.
@sam2x137 жыл бұрын
bfrance2002 a better idea is to put your Back Against the Wind. that way you don't get your windshield sandblasted
@ChibiabosWolf7 жыл бұрын
Except you don't get paid and will get charged $300 for getting there late if you're heading to a Wal-Mart DC. Pay is terrible and forces truckers to keep going even when its not safe.

Years ago I was driving westbound on I-80 near Oasis, NV. UT and NV allow triple rigs, trucks towing 3 shorter trailers. Just as I was about to pass a triple rig a gust of wind caught it. Didn't go over, but each trailer was trying to go a different direction at the same time. Scared the crap out of me. Didn't attempt to pass until a bit later on a long uphill grade with a passing lane. Slowed him down to about 20 and I got past! If the pavement had been icy there is no way he would have recovered that.

The Stare Hiway Patrol needs to shut it down for high profile vehicles till the winds pass. I mean come on, there will always be those drivers who push it because they don't want to argue with dispatch.

Best solution us to stay parked ,& wait until the winds past. If a trucker feels the weather isn't appropriate to drive then he don't drive ,& there's nothin the company can do about it. Personally I won't drive in high wind with the trailer swaying it's not safe. I'll wait the company don't drive u do if they don't agree so what they don't take the risks we do. If the the rig is damaged they pay but it's our bread n butter we all potentially lose money based off bad decisions.

esemenov97 this can happen even at 80,000 lbs if the wind is high enough - tip you right over

You do not need 100mph winds to flip a truck. It depends on the angle and load weight. 50-60mph can flip an 80k trucks

Drive until you crash. You can always blame it on the wind.

I'm checking out these "high wind" videos. I'm a Class C, driving a bobtail on a dedicated delivery route between Sparks and Elko, NV. I soon learned this stretch of I-80 is permanently afflicted with high crosswinds. To make matters worse, after dropping freight in Elko, I'm empty all the way home. On a few occasions now, I've been hit with very powerful gusts - aside from the constant one-sided turbulence. Doe anyone have an insight as to how I might counter-balance - use ballast to keep the straight truck vertical? Has anyone ever heard of attaching heavy weights underneath the cargo box? I'm open to suggestions. Thank you.

Whats the trick to not getting the trailer to flip over? Accelerate? Always wondered what the driver is supposed to do.
@sukrbait66010 жыл бұрын
to be smart enough and not drive till the wind goes dow.
@WastdTrashPanda10 жыл бұрын
Acceleration helps alot, but it's not gonna work every time. It mainly comes down to how heavy the load is and how top heavy it is.
@exilfromsanity9 жыл бұрын
+CMDRFandragon Park if you're empty till the wind dies down. If you're heavily loaded you're usually OK.
