I feel like you missed out on a number of huge advantages that the protoss bring to the table that just isn't matched by other Sci-fi navies. The Warp Prism: The warp prism is functionally the protoss transport vessel. It can ferry protoss units to and from location to location and can also deploy a psionic matrix, turning the transport into a one-ship landing zone that can theoretically offload unlimited protoss infantry units directly to the frontline. The Observer: The Observer is an un-manned (unprotossed?) scouting probe equipped with the most advanced sensor technology available to the protoss, while it's own cloaking technology makes it entirely undetectable to enemies without advanced sensors of their own. Couple that with the relatively low cost of the vessel, despite it's advanced technology, and you can never be certain if the protoss are watching, because they always are. The Corsair: While technologically inferior to the phoenix as a space superiority fighter, it's ability to nullify enemy surface to air weaponry with it's disruption webs make it an excellent support vessel for pushing through enemy blockades or buying the fleet time to cut through ground based defenses. Protoss Shielding: While technically not a ship in and of itself, protoss shield technology is unmatched in the Korprulu sector, which allows protoss ships to enter sections of space that would devastate unshielded ships and zerg organisms. The shield's regenerative properties also reduce the maintenance cost of their ships, since if they fight an opponent that fails to breach the ship's shields then no maintenance would be necessary on the ship.

Numbers 5 and 6 could easily have been rolled into one category as biological advantages, for example, and number 7 is a direct byproduct of number 6 and number 9 has... basically nothing to do with their fleet, and the teleporting away from danger aspect could easily have been rolled in to their technology. Not saying that they don't know what they're talking about, I'm just saying that if they wanted to they probably could have incorporated more specifics.

you forgot the arbiter from SC1 which was a budget mothership designed for frontline support (same cloaking field, just as tough to kill, less weaponry but it could freeze time in a small area). scouts also help to support the pheonix (again from SC1) as it has air to ground weaponry and longer range air to air weapons. the full list of stuff the fleet has (and just the fleet) is: (SC1)shuttle (SC1)scout (SC1)arbiter (SC1)corsair (SC1/SC2)carrier/interceptor (SC1/SC2)observer (SC2)warp prism (SC2)pheonix (SC2)warp prism (SC2)void ray (SC2)oracle (SC2)tempest (SC2)mothership (SC2 campaign)star relic aside from the star relic all of the ships have variants of them as well. that is 14 main models. you can combine the scout, pheonix and corsair, the arbiter, mothership and star relic, the warp prism and shuttle, and finally the void ray and tempest in order to condense the list to get 8 main types of ships to talk about.

@@jamoecw Oh yes, the Scout... a monument to the conclave's complete misunderstanding of what a scout does. It's closer to an anti-capital frigate than a scout. Still, that's one way to go about it, although I think that the less impressive ship types like Scout and Shuttle don't really earn a slot. The oracle always seemed weird to me, too. It's a strange combination of overpowered air-to-surface primary weapon (as in, it draws too much power from the ship to be a primary weapon, not "plz nerf"), an advanced target marking system and the ability to set immobilizing traps. It's kinda scattershot and doesn't seem to have a direct single role for the protoss navy.

The Protoss have amazing technology and capabilities. Even then; when put in the 40k universe; they wouldnt be able to survive very long as a major power due to their lack of numbers. (They might survive as a nomadic race and avoiding contact unless necessary). With that said however; given that Protoss numbers are bump up and have claimed protected worlds; the Protoss will be able to survive and thrive in the 40k universe. -They dont need to enter the Warp for FTL travel and would be more resilient against chaos influence (note; Amon corrupting the Protoss via Khala was possible because Amon fucked around with the Protoss "evolution") -A Zealot is comparable to your "average" Space Marine; though the Astartes edges them out due to range weapons -Protoss as a whole have their logistics figured out. They dont need long; vulnerable supply lines when they could warp them in front of them -Protoss are diplomatic and might just find friends with the Tau and possibly Eldar -Purifiers could make up the Protoss main-line forces. Sentient AI Personalities of the greatest Protoss warriors that could transfer between host bodies during "death" - means you're fighting their best until the very last host body -The Protoss literally self-nerfed themselves in fear of destroying lesser beings with their technology. Case in point; the Colossus alone wiped out an entire species back to the stoneage -Is also capable of destroying planets/exterminatus -Able to manipulate time -Has armor that "phases out" of existance to avoid damage -Are able to create shades, projections and holograms - which in turn allows them to create proxy armies without actually sending in troops on the ground. Not even the Purifiers! -Capable of creating blackholes (via Mama ship) -Are able to live over a thousand years. That's a thousand years of experience and knowledge that could be passed on to generations With that said however; Starcraft isnt 40k and have made itself to be less similar to 40k over the years (Note; understand that there are difference between copies; inspirations and tropes)

@@christiandauz3742 protoss are immune to both biological asimilation (immune to zerg and tyradinds) and chaos. they were designed as perfect beings with psi potential, and in some cases (archon) can become pure psi energy. they can't be corrupted. the amon "corruption" was mental and was used to control them, it had no effects on their bodies. tal'darim are some of the most powerful protoss psickers, some of them may be more powerful than demon-princes. but they are "perfect beings" designed by the xel-naga, they can't be corrupted like human psickers. protoss are older than humanity in starcraft, their technology is much more advanced than 40k, with even small crystals being intelligent and being able to repair and improve nearby machines, summoning mass out of nowhere, and being a mix of ridiculously advanced technology and psi energy. they don't use computer chips or flat pieces of metal, and most of it levitates and has shields. it is closer to necron living metal than anything else in 40k, except with psi capabilities engineered into it.

The Protoss are so like the Eldar (for some surely unfathomable reason...) that they should get along famously. A technological and cultural exchange could be beneficial to both species. The perpetually outnumbered Eldar could doubtless make use of Protoss weapons like the War of the Worlds-esque Collossi with their thermal lances, and the Protoss would find that Eldar D weapons, Holofields, and Aspect warrior training techniques would all greatly augment the abilities of the Templar.

Eldar were entirely robotized before the Fall and entirety of their fighting was done by the robots (and they probably still have some mothballed), they refuse to use them because of the Chaos, so Collossi would be entirely useless to them, since they could make far greater robotic vehicles if they were inclined to, which they would not. The thing that Eldar would want from the Protoss the most are infantry/vehicle shields, while 40k shields are far better than the SC ones, they are also far harder to produce for small units.

Thermal lances would certainly help fry plenty of the horde army foes the Eldar suffer when fighting due to their numerical inferiority. As for control systems, it wouldn't be the first time the Eldar used soul stones to motivate robotic shells. You are right though - if the Eldar supplemented their Holofields with Protoss Plasma shields, their vehicles and infantry would become much more survivable, which would be useful for a race on the brink of extinction.

As for the shields for Collosus size units that's more complicated, and depends if it is viable to put both Holofields and Protoss shields on the same unit, as the Imperium can put a shields that are superior to the Collosus shields on the units of a similar size, and Eldar still consider the Holofields as a superior choice.

@@emperorofowls6337 You are correct that any melta weapon and any 40K anti tank laser weapon has more raw power than a Protoss Thermal Lance, but the lance has the advantage of being designed to be swept over multiple lightly armoured infantry targets and incinerate them in groups, which might come in handy in a battle for Iyanden type of situation. As for the shield question, we know that Eldar don't employ Void shields (probably because they are a form of Warp related tech the Eldar think is potentially dangerous), but they do use personal energy shields such as those won by Autarchs and some types of Wraith warriors that seem able to handle more direct damage than personal Protoss Plasma Shields but appear to be far rarer and more difficult to mass produce to be used to protect whole armies. If Plasma Shields and Holofields could be combined on the same warrior that would be a huge boon to Harlequins, but just plasma shields supplementing Aspect warrior armour would be great for basically all the Aspect infantry warrior types like Striking Scorpions and Howling Banshees.

More or less every Eldar tech they have is Warp based so that's not the reason, they do even have large sized shields, but they probably don't use them normally because they don't mesh with holofields. 1 thing you should have brought up is the "shadow clones" the protoss psionics can create, while they don't deal damage they are exactly the same, even having shields and the same endurance of the original. Which are able to draw enemy fire and potentially intimidate the enemy fleet, combine that with the cloaking tech and its basically psychological warfare. Any engagement with the protoss could be a gamble as you never know if those are the numbers are you facing, are there 10,000 or 1,000 or vice versa!

In case you missed some things from protoss biology, let me clarify. Their skin pretty much is an all purpose organ . The protoss absorb water through their skin, absorb sunlight through their sin for nourishment , they hear through their skin and smell through their skin. They don't have mouths or other orifices to make sound so they communicate telepathically. All protoss have psionic potential of varing degree of power but all can perform the most basic of telepathic communication. They can translate languages telepathically in this manner. There are male and female protoss but their reproduction is never specified. They likely don't do it like humans since don't have orifices or genitals that we can see. But it has been theorized that protoss have evolved to a point where they are depended on their technology for reproduction and survival so genetic material is harvested from both spouses and artificially spliced in a growth pod and the baby is grown within an artificial womb.

I think they'd be somewhere in the middle between Tau and the Eldar. The biggest threat to the Protoss would be Chaos. Suddenly finding themselves in the 40k universe, such a psychically active species wouldn't have very long to learn to defend themselves against possession and corruption.

The only problem with the Protoss is their small numbers. Most of their fleet is scattered across space orbiting other worlds, instead of defending Aiur or focused on some important staging ground. Which meant that Aiur was caught with its pants down when the Zerg invaded. If the Protoss can have as much numbers as say, the Galactic Empire, they could easily wipe out galaxy-wide powers like the Imperium of Man without even trying. At most, all they can do is annoy powers like the Imperium, the GE, and the Covenant by bug-bite attacks and raids, hoping to God that they don't locate Aiur or Shakuras and send a massive strikeforce.

As long as they can stay out of range , I pretty sure they can stomp nearly every main race in 40k. Except some few with some variable condition. - If Tyranid can disrupt or block psionic power of protoss army then they pretty much win already. - Eldar for having powerful Psyker power. - Chaos because fucking chaos. I'm talking about chaos demon / chaos infuse. - Maybe Ork if there number are greater than Zerg. And Protoss still care about honor / life of that planet. They pretty much a combination between Eldar and Tyranid . Also throw in Necron's toy in there or two. - They was build to survive in nearly any environment and strong , Like Tyranid. - They have powerful psionic ability , nearly the same level as Eldar (not quite sure if they equal to when Eldar rule the entire galaxy...because in those day , Eldar create a god with their mind and power.) - Extremely technological advance pretty much the same level as Necron but at the smaller scale.

@@justinthompson6364 Kilotons is actually really weak by sci fi standards as Star Trek's Federation ships have megaton level weapons and they're not strong by sci fi standards either. Starcraft Terrans do terratons of damage and again they're not strong like the Protoss fleets who can glass planets to the planet crust with their ships. While their range is impressive, the problem is that due to Mass Effect trying to ground itself hard in reality with science, when you compare it to other sci fi universes that use it as more of a 'guideline' to say, even the much stronger reapers would get wrecked as while Reapers do have megaton level weapons, their kinetic barriers have a huge vulnerability to direct energy weapons that outright ignore it and go for the hull itself, something like say Star Trek has plenty of via Phasers.

the protoss are more akin to the precursors in their general level of power and depth of understanding/application of knowlege than they are to the covenant or even the forerunners, this is a faction that has hand-crafted their own custom energyforms and laws of physics to addto/alter their universe. that said they really don't have much in the way of numbers _or_ stockpiled weapons (those carriers for example were survey ships...designed about 3 billion years ago) despite having been around and active at a "we make reality follow _our_ laws" level of development for a few billion years, they aren't expantionistic and they breed like some of the sillier versions of elves in fantasy (IE almost not at all).

Ah the protoss. A lot of their technical weaknesses are related to their small population, morals and stuck up leadership. The vast majority of their ships are capable of dishing out Exterminatus on a regular basis. The air superiority fighter in SC1, the scout, which is crap in the game was ridiculously powerful in the lore. Their basic payload is anti-matter missiles. The mothership was originally supposed to be capable of cracking planets, create black holes and stop time. For gameplay mechanics, these ships were nerfed like hell. It's only that for every 1 protoss ship, there are 100 terran ships and for every 1 terran ships, there are 100 zerg flying creatures. Lore-wise, the protoss are ridiculously powerful, even more so than the 40K universe but have close to null capability to restore losses unlike the 40K where trillions can be sent to their deaths everyday and no one would care. Yup, it's quite sad to see that this race is so underappreciated.

I would also like to point out that the starcraft universe still exist because of the Protoss because while the Terran were dealing their own internal disunity and Kerrigan only out for revenge it was the Protoss that did something to stop Amon from coming wiping out all life in the galaxy. Not entirely accurate. The Dominion was fighting off Mobius Corps and the Golden Armada during the End War (which the Dominion was badly losing btw). Kerrigan and the Zerg had been going after Amon since the end of HotS and lost a considerable amount of forces in Ulnar. Artanis and the gang just happened to be the one with the knowldege and the things needed to bring Amon down whilst Amon's forces were busy burning down the Terrans and the Zerg.

Theoretically; yes - if the ship is within pylon power. But the bigger issue is that the Protoss dont seem to have a standardized *bomb* weapon like we humans have nukes. Like mentioned in the comment above; Energizers however are able to *control* enemy vessels and other mechanical units for a short period of time. This would allow the Protoss side to vent out the enemy crew via airlock and crippling the enemy vessel through other means

The thing with 40k though is that it's basically a massive conglomeration of tropes with decades of lore and history that it will eventually have similarities to other factions of other franchises. The Protoss are nowhere near the Eldar when it comes to a Craftworld sense. Sure; the Protoss Daelaam did live in a ragtag fleet of survivors led by a massive arkship; but that only lasted for the 2 year End War. The Protoss had no permanent planet they could settle on, and with the nature of their mission and situation they're in, it's just makes more sense that they would be mobile Also doing a quick research, it seems like the majority of Necron lore came out in 2002; 4 years after the original Starcraft. If the failsafe part did came out on that codex (2002), then wouldnt that be Necrons *copying* Protoss emergency recall?

@@maxdickson8649 IoM is actually strong but, they mostly rely on the astartes to the the effective work and the IG is just there, sitting in a trench, shooting on the trench amd soon sent to be just expended and forgotten in human waves. They should have Baneblades rolling first, then followed by some smaller tanks like the Lemam Russ, and behind are the Imperial Guard. If they are out of armored support, I guess they need to be on a defensive since I heard the IG are the masters of trench warfare.

The protoss fleet at the height of its power is more than a match for any fleet of the imperium because of one thing, near instantaneous teleportation. Fire your torpedoes and all your weapons and the protos will simply teleport behind behind you.

You can't have phoenixes zipping around using warp tech to flank and destroy enemies and using their beams to incapacitate enemies, you can't have void rays suddenly warping in with it's crystal already fully charged and ready to punch through anything, and most definitely, you cant have carriers deploy thousands of fighters to intercept and destroy their enemies because it will break the game. So many things are cut from the lore so that the game can be balanced. Also, how is a single shot from a yamato cannon weaker than a titan's weapon? Did you mistake the word decimate as "damage slightly"? Because last i heard decimate literally means destroy.

Decimate does literally mean something like reduce by one tenth - so taken literally it would mean that it destroyed one tenth of the city. Decimate as used commonly - such as it is almost certainly case in the Field Manual - means dealing major damage to the city but not destroying it. So yes decimate means inferior power to destroy or flatten.

Also one of the final missions requires destroying the Psi network on Aiur so the player's forces can take out Amon's host body without near instant reinforcement from the Golden Armada.

Also, a single shot from a titan can devastate a city, yes, but it still takes a salvo to completely level it just like a yamato cannon. Besides yamato cannons can barely damage the shields of a carrier let alone a mothership even then you'll have a hard time hitting them. If you want to destroy a protoss ship you dont bring a titan, you bring a capital ship from the navy and have its nova cannons fire.

@@worldman3218 What about Motherships? They can teleport an army close to the mothership but only thing it achieves is that the army will die with the Mothership. Yamato cannon can decimate the city, but not necessarily in one shot - the number of shots is not specified, in is one shot only in the most favourable interpretation. Titans have multiple primary weapons, so in this case a salvo means firing with each of its primary weapons once (or one burst in case of rapid fire weapons) - which is equivalent of Yamato cannon shooting once. Yamato cannon destroys shielded carrier in two shots in the Shadow of the XelNaga, so they don't "barely damage them", that's just your fanfiction. Yamato cannons don't have hard time hitting protoss capships, in Shadow of XelNaga all Yamato cannon shots hit carriers sucessfully, so unless you provide example of this happening, they have no problem hitting Protoss capships, only case of Protoss ship able to avoid shots is the Spear of Adun, which is an unique case.
