Whether you believe he killed himself or fled to Argentina, the Allies still weren't able to kill him themselves. MLK was a different story, as he was a civil rights activist in a time where racial segregation and racism were still strong. The assassination was most likely because he was a black man bringing people together. All in all, two very separate things.

Im sure that there were lots of people staying tuned to their radios and TV's, constantly listening for updates. Kinda like CNN's 24-hour coverage of flight MH370. The Treaty of Versailles was choking the life out of Germany, which led to Hitler and the Nazis taking power, which led to WWII. WWII Split Europe into two different regions, East and West. And, Indirectly, this schism in the continent of Europe led to the rise of teh Soviet Union to become a super-power, which spawned the cold was, which was comprised of numerous proxy wars. The death of Julius Caesar led to a new wave of political ideology that persists to this day. The Death of President John Kennedy rose tensions in teh cold war even higher than before, and was a nation-wide tragedy. For a long time after his death, the world was watching to see what would happen next.

Plus, he's a very big inspirational figure even nowadays. When he was assassinated, people who didn't even really KNOW what he was all about were devastated.
