They heating pad is soooooo true!!! But also to warm up babies bathing supplies before you put them in it. Like bath towel & new change of clothes. I live in MN and had my first when it was very cold out. We have a four level house so using the dryer is not gonna happen and frankly our house can feel so cold upstairs when its -10F outside. So glad I had that heating pad. Made bathtime so much better❤️

For those who want a slightly more cost effective monitor/cannot get the one she mentioned, the Summer Infant video monitor is great. Great cameras, large screen, shows room temp and has lights on the side to show if baby makes noise (for when you have the sound turned down) and I love that you can monitor up to 4 cameras on the same parent unit. Great for folks with multiple littles. Also! Thank you for mentioning NON-MUSLIN swaddles!! When I had my first thats all everyone recommended and they were absolutely useless for swaddling my little escape artist. Also you can make your own by buying the jersey knit twin sheets sets from Walmart and cutting the elastic off the fitted sheets and trimming them to size. Cheap and lovely.

Hey Sarah, thanks for this! I LOVE that you have minimalist lists as I hate having extra "stuff" around. One item I'm on the fence about is a swing. What are your thoughts? I like the ones where the seat portion can be removed and function as a baby chair on its own.
@FreckledFoxx4 жыл бұрын
Hi and congrats! I'm not a doula or nurse, but I have an 18 month old and newborn twins. My oldest would only sleep in the swing or wrap for his first 5 months in spite of alllll our best efforts. We bought a used Fischer Price swing for $40 and eventually transitioned him to the crib by gradually using less and less speed on the swing till he was sleeping in it turned off and then moved him to the crib. My twins are also motion junkies and sleep so much better in the swing or a wrap. I'm absolutely no expert and all babies are so different, but I'm so glad we had a swing ready to go. All the best to you!

We tried 3 different swings and my baby didn’t last longer than 5 minutes in any of them. For that reason, I recommend buying used if possible that way you’re not spending $$$ on a product that doesn’t work for your baby.

As for baby monitor: get a WYZE camera off amazon. I think they are like 29$. Works with ur phone so u’ll have ur monitor with u always without having to carry something else. And when your kid gets older u can set the motion detector and use the speaker system. It’s amazing. When people come to take care of ur kid u can just add them to the app too so they can just use their phone and it is seriously around 30$$$$$$$$ Wowow!

Sound machine definitely on my registry, and they come with lights too. I mean, looks like an awesome blue gentle nightlight that’s gentle on eyes and could help you navigate through to baby without stubbing any toes! I am going to take the multi- use and most functional minimalist approach. Burp cloths can be washed and later down the road used as wash cloths for baby as they grow.
@MelanieDChrisman4 жыл бұрын
I know you touched on this in a different coffee and questions, but I’m having multiples and a lot of timeline stuff usually correlated with people having single babies. Like in the “hospital bag video” you recommend that we pack at 37 weeks or so. If you’re having multiples, it’s likely you won’t make it to 37 weeks. So if you do a whole video on multiples could you talk about an adjusted timeline for things like that? I can’t remember if there was anything else that should probably be done earlier.
@mrs.2284 жыл бұрын
Thank you sooo much! I definitely already scoped out warmers and sanitizers! You can get them for 1- multiple bottles. I saw the haaka when I looked up breast pumps, and was like this is so affordable and Sarah recommends it! I can’t wait and I feel so educated and prepared! I am lucky to know bout swaddling because I worked at a daycare. Moby wraps are in a lot of places. They are awesome but you could use anything as a wrap that is stretchy. That’s why I love them. No burning arms for this mama struggling w/ a baby carrier!

@MommyBee15893 жыл бұрын
That works if you NEVER use your phone- im not on social media and don’t use my phone often but do get texts etc from family so having to leave it there and not being able to use it at all sucks. I’m a mom of four and say it’s totally worth it to buy one. Even if for no other reason than there is no blue light keeping your kid awake and u don’t have to kill your battery/data using your phone for white noise. I don’t recommend the hatch bc it has terrible reviews and so many KZbinrs recommend it I don’t understand why it’s the most expensive sound machine you can buy and is NOT highly rated if you check Amazon reviews past the first page.

My favorites that others were like you don't need...wipe warmer, i will take it to the hospital with baby #2, it made changes so much less fussy for mine, he hated the cold wipes, no more terrible changes with the warmer lol, bottle warmer (unfortunately my body failed to produce anything breast wise for baby, no colostrum or milk so not an option for me which broke my heart, worked for 6 weeks with a lactation consultant, pumping and nursing then supplementing) and my diaper genie. #1 love is my butt paste silicone spatula that applies the cream with no mess! cloth diapers instead of burp cloths they are huge and fabulous, we also used little wash cloths over the penis so we didn't get covered in pee during changes, we had the little "tee pee's" my hubs loved them for when we were out but i found the wash cloth worked better. things I used the least were the mittens and swaddles, my little one hated being swaddled so we just did freedom lol he was a strange youngin, but I have to say he didn't stay all tucked up when I was carrying him, he was spread out then too

As a nurse I’m really interested to hear what you think of the Owlet sock that monitors HR and SPO2. I’ve heard it can be a huge relief to mommas especially if they’ve experienced a loss before. Have you ever tried it out?
@LifewithKrystle3 жыл бұрын
I’d personally ally avoid them at all Costs. They aren’t always accurate and can also induce stress. The biggest thing that turned me off them though is that many babies have been burned by them. As well as there shouldn’t be anything in the crib with baby except for a pacifier and swaddle or sleep sack. The owlet isn’t safe at all
@Kim-cj2fl3 жыл бұрын
@@LifewithKrystle I am not sure we are talking about the same thing. The Owlet is a pulse oximeter that secures over the babys foot, similarly to how they measure blood oxygen in the hospital setting. The reason why you don't want extra things in the crib with baby is because of a suffocation hazard. The owlet is velcroed on and can be used even under a swaddle. It is not a suffocation risk because it is not loose. Studies have actually shown it is highly effective (as all other pulse oximeters on the market are) and has saved lives by alerting the parents to a problem (such as impending SIDS) while they baby was asleep. As always, it could come loose and set off a false alarm but all you would have to do is look at the baby to see they are clearly breathing and the device just slipped off
@LifewithKrystle3 жыл бұрын

Uhmm... Full-time pumping mom here - you do not need to sterilize your pumping parts every time you use it (past the initial getting the pump)... I was told that by the hospital - just hot water, soap and thorough air drying. Also, we always just ran hot water in the sink and let the bottle warm up naturally and always to the right temperature for the baby. So, that machine is completely unnecessary, especially for the $$ you pay. Also, if you sleep train your baby from the start, you don't need a baby wearing wrap. Cause your baby sleeps in the crib, which is proven to be better for their physical and emotional development, becoming independent and being able to self soothe faster. Hatch Baby - totally worth it, we got the Plus and connected it to Alexa for commands. Get a regular good resolution baby monitor that is NOT connected through your phone: 1. privacy and concerns about hacking. 2. you're using your phone ALL the time and you won't have to flip to the app back and forth to see your baby. 3. if you are out of power (think, thunderstorms) you will inevitably lose connection. 4. it won't drain your phone battery. Besides, the Nanit is worthless without their membership, which is like another $100. We got a Vtech video monitor from FB Marketplace for $30 and it's meeting all our needs.
