Half of the list could be preferential but def not essential. Also is the hospital in a jungle and the partner can't take a trip to and fro or there ain't any shops around - most hospitals have gift shops and pharmacies. Point is, enough of this hospital bag essential madness. Even of the mom goes empty handed, I am sure she can get the job done.

For the essential oils, dab a cotton ball/pad with it instead of a diffuser for that same reason someone mentioned in the comment (that a nurse may be allergic to smell) but also so if you end up not liking the smell for whatever hormonal reason, it is easy to make disappear or change scent

Your own birthing/delivery gown. Haven’t delivered yet, but already checked with my OB & even with COVID I am allowed to bring & wear my own birthing/delivery gown as long as it allows for them to have as much access as a normal hospital gown. I know I am going to feel so much more comfortable in my own chosen gown versus a standard hospital gown. My OB also suggested one that can open fully in the front so that I can easily have skin to skin contact with my baby as soon as she’s born.

@rebeccavaughn88973 жыл бұрын
@@winterrrsea1674 By "personal details" I was referring to things like the date or her insurance plan which she probably doesn't want shared on the internet. I really don't know if it was her insurance plan or the hospital itself which got her the free car seat. Also in large urban centers like LA there are a lot of programs that give things to people who make under a certain amount of money. So it could have been that. I really don't know. When I asked my mom about a car seat, she said "The hospital is providing that." And sure enough, my sister was given a car seat when she and baby were released. My suggestion would be to call up the hospital and ask what things will be provided. That way, you will have fewer surprises.

I agree, you did not need it. Most things on this list are to provide you comfort during all your stages of labor. And as a 3rd time mom, I can attest that they are very helpful. “Important” is a very variable word. What essential oils would you recommend to use during labor?
@raylingomen25622 жыл бұрын
Clary sage can help sync up contractions. Bergamot is a great citrus scent that is calming, but if you want energy then grapefruit is nice. I'll also have lavender and frankincense on hand for calming options. It really depends on the individual, you know when you're in labor by opening the bottle and smelling, you'll likely choose depending on your mood. Remember that things in the mint family inhibit milk production.

This is probably pretty excessive honestly but thats coming from someone naturally very minimalist. But from the perspective of someone induced with a preemie told to expect a longer hospital stay, this just still seems excessive. I was there 6 days and packed: breast pump, charging block and 2 cords, 3 nursing tanks, 6 pairs socks, hoodie, sweats, a preemie and a nb outfit, baby hats, car seat and cover, 3 baby bottles, bottle brushes, tooth brush. That was excessive for my 6 day stay, i didnt need the nb outfit, the hats were too big and also they provide them, dont need to bring a tooth brush bc they supply them(and i lost my electric one there), didnt need the bottles because i wasnt pumping anything to save and they give you medela vials, didnt need the hoodie or sweats bc i just wore the same ones i came in with, didnt need the socks bc hospital gives them. Bring a sturdy empty bag for all the free stuff, we used a plastic bag but it was awkward to carry and heavy. Bringing a duffle bag with the next to carry my few things and the free stuff. Dont be afraid to ask for the free stuff, insurance covers it and they throw it away when you leave anyways and they gladly help out with any extras you may need(diapers, formula, wipes, pacis, swaddles, tees, pads and disposable underwear, toiletries etc). I personally left with 6 packs of preemie diapers and 2 preemie swaddles because i only had nb of both on hand at home and my baby was 4lbs. They gave us formula too but we didnt use it bc my baby couldnt drink it, but the pediatrician gave us formula too the first several visits.

Maybe ask your hospital if there’s anything you shouldn’t/can’t bring. Most if not all hospitals aren’t allowing moms to walk around the unit so house shoes may not be as necessary if you have socks and you’re just walking around your room. Post delivery stays are also being reduced so you may not want to have so many multiples. I’m not really bringing things that are difficult to clean after going home, so if I do take a pillow it will be older ones that we won’t keep and am taking a hard suitcase instead of a cloth duffle

@@gingersnapsbc in my hospital the minute you're hooked into pitocin you're no longer allowed to eat. But if you're induced, you can't eat from midnight the night before. So I didn't eat for over 24 hours.

Snacks are nice to have after the baby is born as well. 👌 I've had two babies and both of the times snacks weren't needed during the labour.

A belly band would not fly in my canadian hospital. They have to keep checking your stomach and pressing on it they dont want to see u wearing any belly band while checking you every 2 hours

I bought period disposable underwear because I know all my hospital provides is mesh undies and giant pads. Make sure your partner has essentials for an overnight stay ours makes them sleep on an uncomfortable cot
