It’s a pretty common term for nurses, doulas, and midwives to use when speaking to mothers or mothers to be. I’ve experienced it with many nurses myself and I have to agree it does have a nice ring to it ☺️

Extra clothes!!! You never know if you’ll have a longer hospital stay and you’ll want clean clothes each day you’re there. Everyone told us to only bring enough clothes for 2 days but we had a 4 day hospital stay. Very grateful I trusted my gut and packed extra!

my partner is super supportive if me but because he already has a son, he thinks he knows everything he needs to know about pregnancy, birth, and newborns but I really wish he would go out of his way to learn more about natural birth and what not because I feel like I tell him something new about birth that he didn't know every day.

Half of the list could be preferential but def not essential. Also is the hospital in a jungle and the partner can't take a trip to and fro or there ain't any shops around - most hospitals have gift shops and pharmacies. Point is, enough of this hospital bag essential madness. Even of the mom goes empty handed, I am sure she can get the job done.

You totally forgot the Boppy Pillow for nursing! I'm so glad I took mine, it was such a lifesaver. For the essential oils, dab a cotton ball/pad with it instead of a diffuser for that same reason someone mentioned in the comment (that a nurse may be allergic to smell) but also so if you end up not liking the smell for whatever hormonal reason, it is easy to make disappear or change scent

Your own birthing/delivery gown. Haven’t delivered yet, but already checked with my OB & even with COVID I am allowed to bring & wear my own birthing/delivery gown as long as it allows for them to have as much access as a normal hospital gown. I know I am going to feel so much more comfortable in my own chosen gown versus a standard hospital gown. My OB also suggested one that can open fully in the front so that I can easily have skin to skin contact with my baby as soon as she’s born.

@rebeccavaughn8897
@rebeccavaughn8897 3 жыл бұрын
@@winterrrsea1674 By "personal details" I was referring to things like the date or her insurance plan which she probably doesn't want shared on the internet. I really don't know if it was her insurance plan or the hospital itself which got her the free car seat. Also in large urban centers like LA there are a lot of programs that give things to people who make under a certain amount of money. So it could have been that. I really don't know. When I asked my mom about a car seat, she said "The hospital is providing that." And sure enough, my sister was given a car seat when she and baby were released. My suggestion would be to call up the hospital and ask what things will be provided. That way, you will have fewer surprises.

I agree, you did not need it. Most things on this list are to provide you comfort during all your stages of labor. And as a 3rd time mom, I can attest that they are very helpful. “Important” is a very variable word. I pretty much have packed everything on the list, I just watched this great video to see if I forgot something. In my experience for all the mamas that aren’t getting carried in the hospital while baby’s head is already crowning, I fully support this list.

I give birth within 1:30mins of entering the hospital or less. It’s messy, cos I just need time to throw up, have my water broken or it breaks and push time. Let’s see what happens in this one. I leave within 12hours of giving birth and the nurse comes to my home the next couple of days (I don’t like hospitals and early release is an option we have in Ireland).

@raylingomen2562
@raylingomen2562 2 жыл бұрын
Clary sage can help sync up contractions. Bergamot is a great citrus scent that is calming, but if you want energy then grapefruit is nice. I'll also have lavender and frankincense on hand for calming options. It really depends on the individual, you know when you're in labor by opening the bottle and smelling, you'll likely choose depending on your mood. Remember that things in the mint family inhibit milk production.

This is probably pretty excessive honestly but thats coming from someone naturally very minimalist. But from the perspective of someone induced with a preemie told to expect a longer hospital stay, this just still seems excessive. I was there 6 days and packed: breast pump, charging block and 2 cords, 3 nursing tanks, 6 pairs socks, hoodie, sweats, a preemie and a nb outfit, baby hats, car seat and cover, 3 baby bottles, bottle brushes, tooth brush. That was excessive for my 6 day stay, i didnt need the nb outfit, the hats were too big and also they provide them, dont need to bring a tooth brush bc they supply them(and i lost my electric one there), didnt need the bottles because i wasnt pumping anything to save and they give you medela vials, didnt need the hoodie or sweats bc i just wore the same ones i came in with, didnt need the socks bc hospital gives them. Bring a sturdy empty bag for all the free stuff, we used a plastic bag but it was awkward to carry and heavy. Bringing a duffle bag with the next to carry my few things and the free stuff. Dont be afraid to ask for the free stuff, insurance covers it and they throw it away when you leave anyways and they gladly help out with any extras you may need(diapers, formula, wipes, pacis, swaddles, tees, pads and disposable underwear, toiletries etc). I personally left with 6 packs of preemie diapers and 2 preemie swaddles because i only had nb of both on hand at home and my baby was 4lbs. They gave us formula too but we didnt use it bc my baby couldnt drink it, but the pediatrician gave us formula too the first several visits.

Maybe ask your hospital if there’s anything you shouldn’t/can’t bring. Most if not all hospitals aren’t allowing moms to walk around the unit so house shoes may not be as necessary if you have socks and you’re just walking around your room. Post delivery stays are also being reduced so you may not want to have so many multiples. I’m not really bringing things that are difficult to clean after going home, so if I do take a pillow it will be older ones that we won’t keep and am taking a hard suitcase instead of a cloth duffle

Do other hospitals actually allow snacks? My hospital only allowed me clear liquids like broth. Went for 38 hours without food with my first because my labor stalled out 😭 I swear pure adrenaline is the only thing that let me push out baby because I was not fueled by any calories.

What’s the difference between a doula and a midwife?
@alishajennings2013
@alishajennings2013 4 жыл бұрын
A doula helps comfort and support a woman during labor. A midwife delivers the baby and provides prenatal care
@bertdellestep1215

Like the other commenter said, midwives are nurses or nurse practitioners trained to deliver babies and provide prenatal care. Doulas are there to provide support for laboring mom's most often those who have a natural unmedicated delivery.

What about for a delivery inside a birth center?
@BridgetTeyler
@BridgetTeyler 5 жыл бұрын
I'd say check to see what they birth center offers first! Birth centers are definitely more homey so you might not want everything mentioned in this video, but still might want things that will make you most comfortable!

What size do I get for the birthing ball there are many sizes. Please help.
@Carlie_flower
@Carlie_flower 4 жыл бұрын
The manufacturer should have directions for sizing in description of product if there are multiple sizes. If it's anything like a regular pilates/yoga ball, which I'm sure it is, then it most likely goes by height. I used to be the manager of a sporting goods store so we sold a lot of exercise balls and that was always the system.

I've heard that it's better not to use belly bands, because can can interfere the natural healing process and cause more harm than good.

Did you go to a hospital that had a lot of students? The two hospitals near me are completely different because one is right by a college ans have alot of students and they rarely allow anything for your own comfort but the other one is really focused on your comfort and dont have many students

Pack the snacks for later, after delivery. You never know when you're going to be hungry and if the kitchen is closed/under staffed you don't want to be stuck with vending machine junk.

Not that I know of. And I would not use anything mineral oil based with chemicals/scents since lanolin is safe for the baby to swallow and unbelievable essential for the nipples against chaping.
