I think there is an advantage retiring at their top performance and as the best mixed doubles pairing in the world, they will be remember for a long time for badminton history.

You need to retire from one thing to embark on a new mission on others. Athletes are not just show up in court and play. Behind every win, there were probably 10x more training. I know what is burnt out even though I wasn't in sports. Badminton is not the entire career since they are young and perhaps rich.

Chinese always retire earlier than they are suppose to do so, because they always great back up and promising youngsters. They could play another 1 or 2 years at top, but that will block the rise of that youngsters. Do China didn't have 'independent players' like other countries? I'm sure this retiree top players can make a decent money while playing independently for a year or 2.
