Great vid. It was another great BA.Cannot agree more that it is such a beautiful place to be, where everyone is included and accepted in a huge metal family. My personal favs were (no specific order): - Night Verses (perfect execution of very challenging music, that manages to be virtuos and groovy at the same time. And that as a trio) - DHG (didn't know that Vicotnik had such entertainer/acting qualitites) - Emperor (no words needed) - Akhlys (the closest experience to wittnessing the gates to hell opening - a hypnotic nightmare trip) - Cult of Fire with Bohemian Symphony Orchestra (a once in a lifetime show) - Riverside (great performance and humorous announcements in between) - The Omnific (left Focus during the 3rd track to see this bass/bass/drums Trio (yes 2x bass, no guitar) and if was again a perfect show - seen them before) - Abbath (last time I saw Immortal was about 20 years ago. Sound and performance better than ever!!!)

My top 3 1. Brutus 2. Uada 3. Aborted + Very good confirmaton : My diligence --> seen them in very small concert venue in Switzerland. They are better everyday + About Behemoth : they don't say "it's the best show" everytime. Seen them at Rock The Lakes in Switzerland one week after. The show was great but the public was not as good as BA. I felt that they were a little bit dispapointed + Great discoveries : Riverside, Plini See you next year !

Cult of Fire with the symphony orchestra was great but one big thing missing in my opinion. It was so much history shown from Check Republic but there was no subtitles on the images shown, nor was there any explanation of what they were playing. I would have loved an intro, I would have loved some words explaining the importance of some of the historic moments. Overall, just fantastic. I saw Cult of Fire in Bergen at Beyond the Gates two weeks earlier and it was obviously very different. :-) So it was really fun to see them in this setting too. Thanks for the reviews and inputs, very much agree with you on almost everything. I was super excited to see Lik and it was sad that their equipment was stuck in Frankfurt, but they still managed to deliver a “goodish” show.
@metalandrockzone3 ай бұрын
Very good point on the words to explain, that would have given a lot more context to the thing. I felt that the locals were quite hypnotized by this performance which, as far as I get about their national identity, comes from the fact that the glory days of the country were back in those days. But for us aliens then we have nothing to connect to there beyond the music. Thanks for watching

Top 5 for me would be : #1 Behemoth #2 Emperor #3 Brutus #4 The Dillinger Escape Plan #5 Plini Discovery : 1914 The Omnific Villagers of Ioannina City Disappointments : Cynic Hatebreed Obscura and Born of Osiris (technical problems, not enterely their fault)

Cool review! Nice and to the point. Glad you enjoyed Madball! A lot of metalheads have a knee-jerk reaction against 90s-style hardcore, but that sound has aged really well and works well alongside heavier kinds of metal.

I just think that in festivals like this there have to be bands that are a bit different but bring atmosphere that is on some other level. For sure some of the more Deathy/blackie bands do as well but my experience is that some of the Hardcore bands just bring a totally different thing. Thanks for watching

Ah, a bit of rain after a hot day was not such a big deal! :) I enjoyed Abbath a lot. I've seen them two times before and none of them was good. At BA I had an impression that the crowd was just great and the bands were enjoying playing for it. This was my first time at this festival and I loved everything about it.

I totally agree with Exodus! They don't get that much recognition compared to their more popular counterparts but they just are so brutal and intense live! I saw them on tour with Death Angel and Testament, and while those two are top-tier thrash bands, Exodus is just on another level! If you also consider their age, it's more mind-blowing!

I love Satyricon. I grew up on first wave black metal in the 80s and Satyricon were my gateway into second wave Black Metal. I grew up on Testament and Exodus and I love both bands BUT both of their last couple albums disappointed me with their modern tones and production and bloated run times. I should not be bored of a thrash album before it's finished. 60+ minute thrash albums are too long. Recommended albums: Exodus - Tempo of the Damned. It's peak Exodus and reminds me why I love metal. Testament - The Gathering. One of their best albums and features Dave Lombardo on drums

Cynic, Testament, Exodus none of which could really described as BRUTAL. Madball caught got your approval because of the energy. I definitely want to see Aborted live. The guitars are just killer. It's great to hear the event ran smoothly, nothing is more annoying than poorly organised events that fall down because one thing stops many other things (no redundancy).

Havent skipped since 2004. I love this festival. For me two best bands this year (but I've seen 52 bands) were Behemoth and Laibach. Every single second of their shows was perfect. Totally professional shows. And with Behemoth it is even more intense for me as I remember them as a small band.

Behemoth were lame! Dodheimsgard were number one, for what we felt and enjoyed . Emperor, Satyricon and Abbath were number one for execution. You're right about Testament, it didn't click with me either. Back in 2019 they had an entire different show. And I don't get why you're upset about Cynic. They were boring even 32 years ago, let alone today. I had to listened to my friends that made the walk to Obscure and felt very disappointed. Wasted energy.

Yes I just somehow had this mythical idea about CYNIC, won't fall into that trap again!
@drfeelgood66464 ай бұрын
Behemoth for me is a perfect example of how overrated some of the bands can be and how much gimrack metal music sometimes can become. Just a bit of fireworks, couple of cheap props and equipment, a big money put for promotion videos and recordings. Deaf people buy it anyway because it's not important if you are a skilled and talented musican anymore. More important is if you can sell yourself and PRODUCT you made to the crowd😄 Greets from Poland !
@metalandrockzone4 ай бұрын
To be honest I know where you are coming from, I rarely listen to their music on albums but with this production that they do they do manage to put it into something that is great. I am not sure they would get high on my list if it would have been in a stripped down club with no lights etc. But that said, it was a bloody cool show.

I agree on testament, but in general, i think testament is a kind of "Dream Theater" like band where its more a musicians thing i guess, and even as a musician i always thought their songs are boring, probably because they are technical before really fast, yet still fast. I do think its kind of weird not liking a band because of the sound engineer and the FOH fucking up, i never heard anybody disliking a band because of that before.
@metalandrockzone4 ай бұрын
So Testament is like a bands band you mean? As for not liking a band then I think I cleared it that I am ranking the experiences right there and then, same bands might have a different effect on me on a different night. I have seen some of my favourite bands have awful shows
@metalmichew24 ай бұрын
@@metalandrockzone yes for me i always thought that about testament, i always found them a bit boring, but i find everything that is difficult or that is technical kind of boring. I once was at a concert where a technical death metal band was playing and i literally felt asleep haha
