I know I'm probably in the minority on here but you can't beat a fast diesel. They are very tuneable. I had a 14 plate 335d mapped to 407bhp and put many a hot hatch to shame. De_badged, it was a bit of a sleeper and put a massive smile of my face when I planted my right foot down

Slk55 r171 facelift model is even more rare and comes with a lot of upgrades over the pre facelift. Best bang for buck motor available with good reliability.

Still putting it out there that I bought a Pug over all of these 😄 Admittedly, as it stands I'm not going to recommend buying one without a manufacturer warranty (reliability is fine, previous owners are not). Also it's very...French, e.g. 1 cup holder for each passenger, 0 for the driver because you stop at a patisserie, obviously. Still, while other hot hatches look great on paper, for driving fun none of them can match the tasty lift-off oversteer. The test drive will be on offer once it's fixed, or at least the important bits...may take a while. Best of those 3 German brands for sub-£20k cars? BMW all day. Audis all drive the same until you get over about £27-30k. Merc have some great highlights, but essentially those are just varying levels of comfort for your muscle car. BMW though, you can have basically any type of driving experience. Fun BMW fact: I showed someone in a pub the new BMW xM "Red Label" and his immediate reaction was that it looks like a discounted Sports Direct trainer. I just happened to be wearing what I think is a "Karrimor Caracal" in red/black...it's just the same thing in Vietnamese child-laboured fabric (I'm a classy fashionista).

I’ve owned a Silver SLK55 AMG for 4 years like the one pictured in this video. In my opinion, it is a true performance bargain. Car & Driver magazine USA timed one at under 4.5 seconds to 60. The engines are bullet proof unlike the later 6.2 AMG cars. Add in its rarity and the amazing sound of that 5.4 litre in a car not much bigger than an MX5. Who says Germans have no sense of humour!

No Audi make the better car on all price ranges, my brother would say Mercedes he's had at least 5 with him owning his 09 270 CDI CLk probably 10 years or so. Clarkson has owned SLK55 AMG he's definitely owned black series CLKs so more than likely the SLk as well. The V10 RS6 is either Lamborghini designed or Lamborghini designed and built but definitely practically the same Engine as in the Gallardo.
